If it aint broke don't fix it. We are broke and need fixing now. Today was exactly as expected we knew how Burnley would be set up and what tactics they would use, yet we employed the same methods that have let us down week after week. I agree with so many of the comments above. We may even need to get big Sam in as it could be that dire.

Dirk, no it wasn’t. It was fan pressure nothing else. And sorry I made a spelling mistake. I will chastise myself to sleep tonight.

Just watch Leicester fly up the league whilst we carry on with this no mark.

You seem extremely deluded, like a lot of Saints “fans,” especially if you think a manager of the side sitting pretty at the top of the Championship and very likely to replace us in the Premier will leave them for us. Turns down Everton and you think he’d be interested in come here. Jeez.

Guarantee old Yoshi comes in for a slating....

Same old same old as far as I could see. You could see the Burnley goal coming from a mile off. 70 minutes of ineffective possession, a goal supposedly against the run of play, then 20 minutes of chaos. Mo's current lack of tactical nous is beginning to concern me.

So depressing. Huge amount of possession but with nothing to show for it. Again. One up front doesn't work, especially when no one is chasing forward to support Gabbiadini who hardly had a touch. Redmond can't see an overlap when it's staring him in the face - always wants to go from a standing start. My fear is that one or two, maybe three (VVD, Bertrand, Soares) players will be so disillusioned by Christmas that they'll want to be off in January. We can blame the manager all we like but I can't believe he's telling them to aim long balls up front when one player is up against three or four defenders on his own. How many times did we hoof it up only to see Burnley snuff everything out. And yet, there was plenty of good play with some good moves but nothing gets finished. Frustrating is not the word. And while the goal was a great header, Forster was flat-footed again. But of more concern is his demeanour throughout the game, he seems so indecisive and is not the force he was two seasons ago. He's been a worry for me from last season and things haven't got better this. Time for a break to try and get his mojo back. He is, without question a good keeper - he's proved that many times - but his confidence is shot and he's now something of a liability. Tadic and Boufal showed flashes but not enough today. But the big concern is the strikers. Gabbiadini is becoming isolated and gives up (there was one fumble by the excellent Pope which he might have got to but he'd stopped the chase). Austin is simply not good enough to maintain a Premier League place.

I'm afraid that Forster must be dropped. He looks like he is wearing lead boots. Doesn't dive forward, dives backwards and by the time he gets there the ball is over the line. I'm wondering that the injury that kept him out for so long has had long term effects on his mobility? We will never know!

Average squad + a system that fails to get the best from individuals = recipe for disaster. Our offensive players are poor. Redmond is dreadful. His ratio of shots to goals is the worst in the league. He doesn’t have the vision to pick a pass in the last third, and most of his play is entirely predictable. And to top it all his body language suggests that he believes it is all someone else’s fault. Long has scored once in 20+ games. Tadic has little impact and Bouffal is inconsistent. Gabiadini must wonder what the hell is going on. He is lucky to get one chance per game. Add to this the fact that the gk is having a poor season and relegation starts to figure. Having said that, Saints have had weak teams in the past and fans have stuck by them. There is a distinct qualitative difference now - the style of football is BORING. As a regular for 40+ years it is the worst “entertainment value” since Branfoot. At least then I didn’t have to pay nearly £50 to get in. Fans deserve more. If the current system prevails for much longer it will turn St. Mary’s into a morgue.

For me it was very obvious that there are players lacking confidence (Fraser & Redmond the obvious 2), and also 2 sets of fans both out there and on here. Those who recognise this and shout out encouragement, and those who think they are going to improve by telling them how poor they are.

I was encouraged by the first half, excellent possession, good chances snuffed out by Pope who I thought was there for the taking. Unfortunately the second half did not follow the first and from the 55-80 minutes nothing happened.

I feel like the tactics don't fit the team selection. Gabbi didn't attack any headers and instead focussed on getting under defenders hoping they would make a mistake. Charlie looked eager and fought for every ball, it was only the last 10 minutes when VVD went up front we looked like we might be useful in the air.

I miss the attacking, high pressing we had under MoPo.

Finally on VVD, clearly frustrated at the end and during the game but total respect for him after the game, signed autographs for all the waiting kids, posed for pictures and was the model professional.

Hopefully we will see a change of fortunes soon, but one thing is for sure, the team needs support not berating.
