I think we are overestimating our midfield if we don't think Joey Barton would improve it. Past his best? Yes. Worse than Ki, Cork and Fer? Very doubtful.
I know he is a tw@t, but he would add that bit of dog and leadership to midfield and wouldn't stand for teammates going through the motions. Burnley (yes, I know, but we are where we are) fans were desperate for him to stay this season.
Having said that, I'm so despondent with the playing and managerial staff at the moment, I'd pretty much take anyone. Maybe that's clouding my judgment. | | | |

But as you say, atleast he will show a bit of bite in there, and will not tolerate our lot mincing about on the park.
