All sorts of threats seem to be coming from old English Tory Brit Nats, from beating the drum of war to supporting separatists simply just as a way of weakening an opponent.

Does Spain wish to risk losing British tourism i wonder?
15% circa of it's GDP depends on tourism, that's a fair whack to a country already in a struggle, the figures and the fact Spain and the UK are extremely close in all sectors tells me absolutely fook all will happen!
"This is one of the most important risks for the Spanish economy as UK represents the main market for Spain’s tourism industry: British tourists account for almost 25% of the total number of visitors to Spain. In 2015, Spain received over 15.5 million British tourists who spent 14.057 billion euros, or 20.9% of the total tourist expenditure in Spain (and a figure which represents a 10.3% rise on 2014).
According to data from the National Statistics Institute, approximately 300,000 British people live permanently in Spain, which makes them the third largest nationality after the Romanians and the Morrocans. The British Embassy has calculated that there are also another half a million British citizens who live in Spain on a temporary basis during some part of the year. In the opposite direction, the UK is the main destination for Spanish immigration, taking in 14% of all Spanish immigrants. According to estimations, Spanish immigration to the UK rose 25% in 2014 from a year earlier.

In a way they are glad of this issue. In the same way the Falklands helped save Maggie.
It distracts from the real problems of brexit, whilst allowing the daily mail to wave the union jack, invoke memories of the Falklands, and establish an us and them agenda against the EU.
In 12 months time the fact that we've managed to avoid war with Spain will be heralded as a triumph for Theresa the appeaser.
Edit, All that's needed is another royal wedding or baby
Talk now that Spain would not stop an independent Scotland from joining the EU...........lol, I would say I do not trust these imperialist powers one jot mind you, none of them.

They send us intelligent young people to work in hospitality, the nhs and learn English.
If only there was some kind of free trading block which allowed free movement of goods and people between us and Spain. Maybe those other great trading European nations France, Germany, Italy, portugal, Holland and Belgium could join as well. The Danish sell us bacon they can join. The poles, hard-working and helped us a lot in the war, them too.
It could be called the single market. Surprised the free market Tories under Thatcher didn't think of it themselves.

How would we do that exactly?
International law allows transit of the straights for all vessels of all nationalities.
Which is why we have to allow russian warship through the straights of Dover.
How could we do it? By invoking Article 51 of the United Nations Charter which provides for the lawful imposition of a maritime exclusion zone in time of emergency.
Exclusion Zones in the Law of Armed Conflict at Sea: Evolution in Law and Practice. Sivakumaran, Vol 92, NT’L L. STUD. 153 (2016)

You would have thought that in that case Argentina would have taken us to court by now....
Also by your logic, Ireland should be British, because it's geographically near Britain.
Did you think that post through?

So a cast iron case yet refuse to go to the courts. Gotcha, trampster.
Spain as typical are full of rhetoric.
Going to cause hassle with Gibraltar, meaning Spaniards lose their jobs in Gibraltar / have more hassle working there? Yeah. good luck with that one given both the Spanish economy and unemployment rates.
