That is expressing an aspiration, you know, the same way the Maybot expresses an aspiration to deal with the crisis in adult social care funding but hasn't actually said how, after the dementia tax was shot down.

I don't disagree - the Maybot is an unmitigated disaster. It was typical Corbyn off the cuff, gesture politics though. Like you, I'm a lifelong Labour supporter...

"Deal with it" could mean anything though. Anything from looking at the scale of the debt and deciding he can't do anything about it, to wiping it out completely. It's vague - which is exactly what he intended. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

In which case, "I'll look into it" would have been the correct reply. "There's a pile of washing up in the sink" "OK luv, I'll deal with it" Next morning - "You didn't do the washing up - it's still there!" "Well, I looked at it and thought bollox to that..."

FAO ECB on 10:33 - Jul 24 with 1302 views | Pegojack | This is what the Labour Party Manifesto 2017 actually says: HIGHER EDUCATION Labour believes education should be free, and we will restore this principle. ô€€±o one should be put off educating themselves for lack of money or through fear of debt. There is a real fear that students are being priced out of university education. Last year saw the steepest fall in university applications for 30 years. Since the Conservatives came to power, university tuition fees have been trebled to over £9,000 a year, and maintenance grants have been abolished and replaced with loans. The average student now graduates from university, and starts their working life, with debts of £44,000. Labour will reintroduce maintenance grants for university students, and we will abolish university tuition fees. University tuition is free in many northern European countries, and under a Labour government it will be free here too. Where in there does it say that they will abolish existing debt? Answer: Nowhere. But as I say, don't let the facts get in the way of a good old Tory slur. I will admit though, despite being a lifelong Labour supporter, that Jezza looked a tad uncomfortable when being questioned on it on the Andrew Marr Show. Could have handled it better, brush up on those media skills, Jezza. [Post edited 24 Jul 2017 10:39]

It's the exact opposite of the Tories believing they didn't even have to bother campaigning and they'd win an increased majority. Oh for a viable third option or a system that actually gives people a choice other than far left socialist nonsense and big business protectionism.

FAO ECB on 10:49 - Jul 24 with 1269 views | Joe_bradshaw | Politicians are very good at this. They say something that leads people to believe they mean a certain course of action will follow. They don't correct people who believe that course of action will follow because it's a vote winner. They have no intention of following that course of action at all and quote their original words and claim they can't understand why people thought that would happen. It's why I dislike them all.

Of course he implied he would cancel it and wanted everyone to think that and thats what a lot of the idiots did. It will be nice the next time when pushed on it he has to admit its only a wish and the conservatives will just reply we wish we could do it also. He is now backtracking faster than the Italian army. Excellent post and thanks for picking that up. It won't stop the Tory Boys on here conspiring though but it isn't there for all to see. I thought he looked very comfortable on the Marr show and he is certainly brushing up on his media performances and learning fast. Compare that to every stuttering Tory we see and he is doing very well. He made a very valid point about non government parties being refused access to stats and figures when preparing their manifestos. Something that would change if Labour got into power. John Mc is coming up with a policy on existing student debt very soon so let's see what transpires there. [Post edited 24 Jul 2017 13:18]

Yes, that approach has worked so well in France. If it was such a great idea, then why did Macron romp home in the recent elections?
