Brexit result not legally binding - Has the PM committed a criminal act? on 20:21 - Aug 10 by exiledclaseboy | That article is nonsense. An Act of Parliament was required to authorise the government to trigger withdrawal and such an Act was passed. |
Thank you very much. End of the thread.

Brexit result not legally binding - Has the PM committed a criminal act? on 20:26 - Aug 10 by waynekerr55 | Didn't the article focus upon potential legality of passing the act? |
Yeah but come on. The intellectual gymnastics that have gone into that take some buying into. An Act of Parliament authorised the government to trigger A50 and the government did so. End. I dislike it as much as you seem to but it is what it is.

It is what it is and we are where we are as they say. And where we are is in the midst of an absolute shambles of what could turn out to be almost treasonous proportions. Article 50 should not have been activated until the Government at least had a clear idea of what it wanted out of the subsequent negotiations. Here we are nearly five months later and only 19 months until we leave and they still haven't got the first clue what they're doing.

Didn't need to read the article as his wife is a barrister don't you know. Probably know the guy personally have him over for petit four's and canapés..

Brexit result not legally binding - Has the PM committed a criminal act? on 20:22 - Aug 10 by plasjack | Economics aside, most of those that voted to leave were afraid of wide scale immigration, that would threaten the indigenous population of jobs. |
No question, yet people will see literally no difference in this area. The tory party is a business friendly party, they are not going to shut the borders no matter what many say. This 'taking back control' line is a soundbite. At no point did they say we would CUT NUMBERS. We have 'control' of over 50% of immigration already and yet that is pretty every year HIGHER than EU migration. Non EU migration has been proven to be a negative drain on GDP whereas EU migration has been proven to be a positive. The reason being that the migrants are younger, more mobile and they WORK. In essence this means that the Government would be biting off its nose to spite its face to reduce numbers. It won't, numbers will reduce naturally through lower economic performance within the Country and increased economic performance from OUTSIDE in host Countries, if you look at the figures in the not to distant past it was break even on EU migration numbers between those leaving and those coming. The change occurred when Britain took a decision based on its own ideals at the time by the labour Gov of Blair to lift transitional controls on Eastern block Countries, this was not something that occurred in other Countries. This was not IMPOSED on us, it was OUR decision. In terms of EU enlargement, this again was something pushed by the United Kingdom. We have long believed in bringing former Soviet Countries into the EU to enlarge the block something the French and Germans have been sceptical about. One of the biggest advocates of Turkish membership was you guessed it Britain!
