I believe some food shops will dump food at the end of the day in preference to selling it off cheap. They're afraid that the public will wait until the food is reduced before buying. My brother-in-law who was a manager of such a shop (part of a well known chain) told me this first hand. | | | |

Not so long ago,was speaking to an East German about how they were fed .Eye watering stuff.
We could start buy eating less ,all of us, and not stocking up with crap we don't need . This is bin headed.
We are the sixth most obese nation in the world and buy too much because we re greedy ,not helped by adverts everywhere . We are grotesque and we re eating ourselves to death | |

I agree with that Perch. But I'd prefer it if we let the fox hunting types hunt fatties rather than starve the whole nation. I'd actually pay to see a porker set off across a field, hitching up his pants, with a platoon of horses, hounds and horn blowing toffs in pursuit. It would make people think twice about that second coffee puff, anyway. | |

A big problem is these use by dates they stick on food. It's perfectly safe to eat most foods well after these dates but people and shops chuck them out.
It's all about common sense. If something has today's use by date on it it's not going to become instantly poisonous at midnight. But most people will still throw it out. |  |

Thank god that amount is thrown away, just think how more obese the greedy fatties would be if they ate it.
A few weeks ago I had the misfortune to have to go to station rd in Port Talbot, I have never seen so many obese people in my life wobbling up and down the pedestrianised street.A lot using sticks for no other reason than their guts were around their knees.
The centre of Swansea is just as bad if you walk around and see the scum that normally fill the area around Union street and oxford street they can normally be seen jumping between Gregg's, the pound shop , the charity shops and the bookies . |  |

Years ago I was a manager at a well known department store, and part of my job was to oversee the catering/cafe. If a sandwich/cake was out of date the day after, and it wasn't sold, we had to throw it away. I suggested that we should distribute them to the homeless in the evening but we weren't allowed. The amount of perfectly fine, in date food that was disposed of every day was disgusting. I'm happy that I managed to change the policy while I was there, and many homeless people were fed in the evenings where they would have gone hungry. |  |
