I'm no fan of Branson but telling him to do one would result in the loss of a great many jobs. He may be worth £4 billion but that doesn't mean he has liquid reserves of £600 million. I would think that almost all his wealth is tied up in his companies. He'd have to sell part of his business empire to raise the money and there are no buyers out there right now.

Branson has got nothing to do with Virgin Media since they were sold to Liberty Global in 2013, other than shares and £10m per year for allowing the company to use the Virgin brand name.
