With most shops/supermarkets encouraging Contactless payments because of C-19, could this be the start of the end for cash?
With lockdown restrictions hopefully being eased in the coming months, surely pubs, restaurants and retailers will insist on contactless for the foreseeable future?
Personally I haven't used cash for a very long time.
You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.

At least 95% of my spend is on credit cards (purely as points make prizes). If and when I spend cash the gold and silver change goes into one of those 4 litre whiskey bottles and the coppers into a tin.
I’m on the third fill of the whiskey bottle and it usually takes about four years to fill and amass £2k of change.
Trouble is, I'm guessing part of that has to be spent on crane hire to get the cash to the bank to exchange for notes

Same here but the untouched money is in one of the pockets of my jeans which I haven't worn for at least a month because of the nice shorts weather we're having.
I haven’t worn anything below the knee since 19 March.
Just been to Aldi and they've removed all their baskets and you have to use a trolley which requires a £1 coin which I didn't have because I haven't been carrying any cash for 6 weeks. Could have been a real nuisance except that I had a big tough bag with me. [So I made her carry the stuff instead ]

No need for cash in todays society. How much does it cost to produce coins/print notes? How many cash transactions are not disclosed to the tax man? Basing the self employed relief payments on disclosed earnings has killed the ‘cash is king’ stance. Makes sense to get rid.
1.22 in , hope this explains it for you .

Three months on from this conversation. So we had this conversation back in April - what are people's experiences three months later? My credit card statements are getting bigger and more of the basic takeaways are taking cards. Whatever happens I think I'll follow Lisa's example after the crisis ends (if it ends) and switch to contactless permanently.

Will be using cash for the first time on Monday since the start of lockdown, to pay the hairdresser. No need for cash anymore otherwise

I use credit cards. I spend within my limit and pay off in full each month so no interest. If you do the same get a good cash back credit card, it really is money for nothing. I usually get enough cash back to get a suit for work for free.

Have spent almost entirely on contactless, but direct from the bank rather than a credit card. Probably should give that a go at some point for the bonuses/cashback as people have said.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

How are builders and the like going to manage when cash is no longer the way to go.They will have to declare everything.
How are planners going to take bungs? How are Judges going to take bungs? How are MPS ? And so on.
It happens. It won't change.
