Should there be a Christianreligious element/ worship in 2020 school assemblies? on 20:50 - Apr 30 by Swanjaxs
They do say that two subjects should be avoided at all costs...
Religion and politics 😕
Absolutely, although I have been drawn into it slightly this week, its certainly two topics, that could cause the most disagreements, we try to stay away from them as much as possible, where I work, it can get very messy,it's not worth the hastle, not for me anyway. Think I'll sit this one out, and watch the carnage unfold. Carry on chaps😀

Absolutely mate!
I think I'll try and lighten the mood by starting a flag thread 🤔
You might think I've forgotten, but one day, when you least expect it, my time will come.
Just to expand I believe there should be absolutely no religious element to school assemblies in State funded schools.
State school gatherings and policy must and should be 100% secular.
Religious Studies as an autonomous subject should of course still be taught as an important element of wider understanding of how different belief systems came to be and how they have affected history and how they continue to affect society today.
Private schools with a religious affinity can brainwash their kids in whichever way they want to, though should still adhere to broader Ofsted guidelines.
The Moslem and the Jewish schools will, carry on spouting their stuff though. Perhaps they should stop too.
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

No need for Religious Studies either, get shot of it and replace it. Far more important things to learn about. What did you learn in one of those lessons that has made an improvement to your every day adult life? Name one thing.
It's made up bollox that has no place in modern society.
I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

Yep, do personal finance, or proper written communication skills or more science...or anything really, just not Sky Pixies.
No place for fake superstition of any sort in education. It's time these things weren't indulged.
Why isn't there a simple 'no' response to this? I don't understand why everyone takes every swipe at religion they can, most religious people don't force their views on you or force you to believe the same as them. I believe, but I don't mock those who do not. If someone chooses to believe different to you, then move on..

I'd go further. I'd ban attendance/participation in any religious activity for anyone under 16.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

So you want children taught the primacy of money over morality?
We’ve heard that drum banged before, haven’t we?
Morality based on the fear of an eternity of hellfire (or listening to C&W on repeat) for non-compliance is no morality at all.

Agree I have no particular religious belief but keep an open mind.
Those thinking they are absolutely certain, should understand, certainty is the enemy of science. Our knowledge may be like a single grain in a silo, why should we be so arrogant to think our knowledge is now so suddenly complete, that we can be certain of anything.
Of Course religion whilst bringing out the best in many and being a kind, gentle loving and supportive thing, like politics brings out the worst in many too. At its worst bigoted, sexist, oppressive, controlling, exploitative of power, abusive and murderous. The opium of the masses.
But this world and universe and anything that lies beyond infinity ;) has so much to reveal to us in knowledge. Perhaps religion needs to be taken less literally by all, despite it being the literature that often dictates it.
