| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

You're right, however for us right now we desperately need a strong, vocal character to implement ongoing tactics and more importantly bridge the Manager-Player divide which MAY be an issue.

| GRIMES on 00:36 - Sep 6 by jasper_T | What you feel to be true isn't always going to be actually true. You see Grimes play 46 games for a team you support, every error is going to stick out in your mind, especially the costly ones. He plays in a position where errors often are. And he definitely had a few duff games this season. Of course the Ryan Woods and Harrison Reeds feel like more reliable, capable players when you see them maybe twice a season plus some highlights. You might never see a major error and not care or enjoy it when you do. It's nearly impossible to be objective without some cold hard numbers in front of you. It's not like the stats boffins aren't keeping track of errors and giveaways. Retaining possession is listed as a strength of Grimes on whoscored, as his pass accuracy is high and his number of poor controls per game is very low for a player on the ball as much as he is. Aforementioned Woods is dispossessed just as often as Grimes (0.7 per game). He makes 1 poor control per game vs Grimes 0.6, while averaging 37 passes per game compared to Matt's 62. 0.4 key passes vs Grimes' 1.6. 0.8 tackles per game vs Grimes 2.8 (44% success rate vs 72%). |
There are some incredible assumptions in your reply.

| GRIMES on 20:42 - Sep 6 with 1045 views | Catullus | I've been critical of Grimes but at Jaspers prodding I've thought about it. I found other stats that say Grimes has 83% passing success and 71% tackle success. So maybe Grimes isn't the problem. I do still think he shouldn't be captain and I'd still take 10 Million for him but in all honesty, if there's a player we need shot of, now I feel it's Byers. Without knowing what Byers stats say, whenever he is on the pitch we are a worse team, his passing is poor, he either doesn't attempt a tackle or gives a foul away (it seems to me) so maybe the answer actually is, make Ayew captain and play Grimes but find him a new partner in midfield? What say you, Jasper? | |

Good post. And fully agree. Hoping MGW is one of the triumvirate and the jury’s out after Smith’s outings so far. Grimes and Fulton play well together yet Grimes could do with a commanding physical presence alongside. But like how Gallagher did when dropped deeper.

£10m is on the bottom end of what I'd be happy with, he's just as valuable to us as DJ and Oli were. Difficult player to replace, as they have been. Doesn't have their potential as he's probably around his peak now but a division rival surely pays a premium. Byers was good in the Man City defeat, and for most of the second half of Potter's season. How quickly fans forget. I never had him down as a central midfielder though, struggled at it in u23s where he was best as a goalscoring 10. Had to change his game massively and it's not been particularly successful based on last season. On the fringes with the new signings but still has to be ahead of Dhanda, surely. Hopefully Smith makes a good partner for Grimes. I'm hardly Fulton's biggest fan, likes a tackle but he plants his feet and makes himself static when defending. Doesn't stay with his man, it's too often all or nothing. Gibbs-White in the Gallagher role... Maybe it'll work out better than preseason suggests.

Very few players cold be placed in the same category as Hoddle - one of the finest players I've ever seen but not really suited to the English game at the time. One of eh very few English players who would have been comfortable playing for Brazil.

Ok, so is the real problem Cooper habit of playing them out of position? Does Byers deserve his chance at 10? This has been a complaint about Cooper. He's put Celina on the wing when many feel he's a 10, Routledge at wing back, there's others but I surely don't need to tell you that. Did we make the play offs last season in spite of Cooper? Has (as someone has suggested) Cooper lost the dressing room? I don't think so, some of them were singing his praises, I didn't notice any negative comments, except on here. Whatever his plan is for this season, we need a balanced squad and not have to play players out of position so often. At some point, and especially if we do sell Ayew...and Grimes, the owners need to let him spend a bit to get the right players in. I'm not advocating a massive splurge but if Cooper identifies the right player and hte asking price is reasonable, then go for it.

| GRIMES on 10:15 - Sep 7 with 873 views | jasper_T | We were definitely fortunate to reach the playoffs. 70 points would usually see us finish 9th, not 6th, and it took a spectacular collapse from Forest to see us sneak in at the bell. | | | |

That last day was very strange, I didn't expect Foret would lose let alone concede 4, at the same time I didn't expect we'd get 4 and thought we'd probably draw. I'm not a big gambler, I probably haven't bet £50 in total this season but maybe I'll look at the end of this season, at the last round of matches and see what improbable results need to happen and put a few sheckles on.
