Do the Swans really need another striker : Renewed interest in Charlie Kelman 8th Oct 2020 12:04
As reported by this site back in early August Swansea City did make an inquiry for Southend United striker Charlie Kelman, the inquiry was rebuffed by the shrimpers, but we hear today that interest is still there. 0

Andy Scott type signing if we get him?

QPR have apparently tabled an “improved” bid today.

He will probably stay within the area he lives, young kid, family etc. However, he may have a decent adviser who knows how well Cooper works with younger players.

It is reported that the kid would be bought by Swansea and loaned to DC. The young lad is a US citizen and might prefer the US pull for a whole host of reasons. Family, passport concerns able to develop in a lower stress environment. etc.

I know fans do not like the relationship between DC and Swansea but it makes sense. Let the kid do as season or two over there and at 21 play for Swansea light up the league boosting his value.

So let's get this right, we have no money but yet you would be happy for us to spend money on a player to loan him out!?

Any money spent on a player, that player would need to be involved in the first team squad immediately.

If we were do sell Rodon and get in 3/4 players required then and ONLY THEN would I personally be happy we pursued players to sign with a plan to loan them out.

If DC are so keen on loans why not take AA off our hands?

If they want him they can buy him themselves. If they could afford Rooney they can afford this kid.

Who says Swansea have no money?. Things are tight but you still plan for the future. The signing will be from the US loan / investment in staggered payments and a loan fee from DC to Swansea would apply. It may be enough to persuade the kid to sign. London or Washington DC. Its up to him. London or Swansea might not be so tempting.

You are making your own rules according to forum rules like "any money spent on a player would need to be involved in the fist team immediately". Why? Its a long term investment. This does not make sense to you because you have possibly bought the myth that the US owners are desperate to leave. I dispute this.

The US people are not here to make you happy. The fans cannot even run the Trust who have no money to invest in the club after 18 years of ownership. "Selling was not their prefered option". Why take advice from them?

Our first team needs some players, a striker amongst them. It makes no sense for us to buy to loan out.
We won't have very much more income this season, apart from the £10 per game we pay to watch on Swanstv. Our money has to last.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Huw Jenkins had his eye on the ball in 2012 when he was offered Jamie Vardy for £800,000. Did not need him see butt. Already had Danny Graham. SCFC could have bought him and loaned him to Yeovil.

Hindsight is often 100% accurate, or are you guaranteeing Kelman will one day be an EPL striker worth around 20 million?

If only football were so easy.

It still doesn't take away from the fact that we need a striker here and if we can afford to buy we need to buy for our team, not for DC United's benefit.

Taken another way, if we spend on Kelman and then loan himto DC, will we have the money to bring in the striker we need for our first team? Depends on whether we plan on using Cullen or loaning him out I guess. So why not loan Cullen to DC United and bring in a striker for our first team?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

We have some 'subtle' hints we don't have any money.

1. We sell players without first agreeing with the coach.
2. We disregard the fact that the coach says we need additions.
3. We disregard the fact that the coach says he doesnt want any player from the existing squad sold.
4. We dont buy a recognised striker, instead we manage to borrow one 1 day before the 4th match of the season.
5. We keep talking when clubs make stupidly low offers for our players.

Now if anyone is saying we have plenty of money but we dont want to spend it on the team, instead we are waiting for the right strategic player to become available, so we can then loan them out to another club. I will get even more angry about the behaviour of the people running the club than I am already!

Lets assume Scott has told Winter, Cooper and Silverstein/ Levien that the Kelman kid is the best he has seen in a decade. He is not ready but a 'must buy'. A snip at £1.5m. The club agree.
Kelman unfortuanely has an offer from QPR to play in their academy team. They also like him a lot. Do Swansea go for it? I say yes. He has three options as ultimately it is up to him.

a) Go to QPR
b) Go to Swansea
c) Go to Swansea but loaned to DC Utd.

His preference might be c), a), b). That is all Swansea can do. Did their best no regrets. Remember Silverstein has invested in the 'long term' and is 'hands on'. Fill the club with good players on cheap loans for a season or two and invest in rough diamonds. Do not waste £8m on players that the manager will not pick. (Asoro, John, Celina, Peterson and McKay)

No a valid set of options
d) Spend the £1.5m on a striker that is ready.
e) Spend the £1.5m on a left sided defender who can play CB and WB.
f) Hold out for £25m for Joe Rodon so they you have £1.5m to spare.
g) Keep the £1.5m for the savings required next year.

I could go on but there are plenty of options and the Risk -v- Reward on d) and e) are far higher than spending £1.5m on a not ready must buy player and loaning him out

If we buy Kelman, if he agrees to sign for us, he cannot demand to be loaned out to DC, don't be ridiculous.
We apparently spent around 1 million on Lowe, if Kelman is in the 1.5 bracket then he should be good to go into our squad. We cannot afford to be buying to lend, we are not Chelsea.

He is a footballer with an agent. He can demand what he likes.

If he fancies a spell in the MLS for family reasons and to get him visible for the US world cup team he is joining Swansea city. SCFC can afford to lend as it is Silversteins money and he will get Levien to organise and competetive loan fee I would imagine. Swansea have to plan for today and the future. Cooper has not tied down one of his u17 to a permanent deal. The US owners can monitor his progress in comfort.

It’s not Silverstein’s money though is it? The club will pay him back, and with interest!

We can’t afford to sign players for over a million pound and loan them straight out.

I'll put it another way, Kelman can ask for whatever he wants but the club should say no to unreasonable requests.
I have never heard of any player signing on with a demand to go to a specific club on loan for a year. It's nonsense.

Interesting to see that DC United are botoom of the MLS with just 3 wins, a record worst number. So just what does Swansea gain from lending a very promising player out to a completely rubbish team? It looks more like Swansea being used to rescue DC than anything else.

The DC angle is a hook. On the face of it QPR v Swansea for a home counties boy is no contest. However the USA angle might be enough to swing it Swansea's way especially if he is speaking to kindred spirits. If Swansea signed him and sent him to Newport people would not object so much.

If Kelman is not the finished article and they see a future star in the making, what is wrong with developing him in our first team in the champ rather than send him to the USA!

If he prefers to fly off to USA rather than start straight into our first team then he is not worth it in the first place...... If he signs for Swansea City then he should be ready, excited and chomping at the bit to put the shirt on.

As for spending money, the situation we are in it is paramount that we strengthen the first team before anything...... Anything else is just complete "Eamesism" in other words "nonsense".
