It may well be the case but it IS a massive killer whatever stats one cares to read and read into. If the nation ahd ome the common sense Boris was commenting on we'd be better off than we are. Fact is, we are dumber than dumb. When this lockdown ends,Christmas will see armageddon with clowns making up for lost drunk time. It is the root cause of our ills .

| Almost 600 deaths from Covid in 24 hours. on 17:39 - Nov 12 by Catullus | Strictly speaking, if they would have lived for longer if they hadn't contractec covid then covid is the cause. If someone is bleeding to death and you put a bullet through their brain before they die then the bullet is what kills them. |
In that case if you are covid positive but die of a secondary bacterial infection which leads to pneumonia or sepsis then should it still be recorded as death by covid?

Not wishing to be pedantic but again who determines whos bleeding to "death", that analogy can be countered by having the best possible care that could stop the bleeding ,

You’re wasting your time Builthy..it’s all lies.
| Almost 600 deaths from Covid in 24 hours. on 18:54 - Nov 12 with 815 views | FieryJack | Years ago I used to work in a Public Records Office, and much of my working day would be spent cataloging Coroners' Court documents from the inter war years. These would usually contain post mortem/autopsy reports. It was common then - and still is now - for doctors to list all contributory causes of death. For example, an elderly woman would fall over in her house and suffer a broken femur. Within a week she would probably die in the local infirmary from broncho-pneumonia. Her body's already frail immune system would be focused on her broken thigh bone, leaving her wide open to pneumonia. If she hadn't broken her leg she wouldn't have died of pneumonia. Both would be recorded as causes of death. And quite rightly so, in my opinion. Sometimes 4 or 5 contributory causes would be itemised. And so it is with Covid. If it is a significant contributory factor it should always be recorded as a Covid death. Not to do so would be a downright lie. I have an underlying health problem, but am in no danger of expiring anytime soon (I hope), but if I contracted Covid I wouldn't rate my chances, and if I did happen to die from this underlying condition whilst I had Covid I would be mighty pis*ed off if that wasn't recorded on my death cert. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| Almost 600 deaths from Covid in 24 hours. on 15:21 - Nov 12 by Dr_Winston | The excess deaths figure is only of value if it can be ascertained for certain that all 70,000 died of Covid. As we already know, there's enough of a debate about how many of the "official" Covid deaths actually were without making greater assumptions. Given the considerable reduction of NHS services offered to anyone else it's not hard to surmise that quite a lot of people have died who might not have if they'd been treated as normal. There's also the issue of using an excess death total over a specific period of time rather than over the course of the pandemic. One of the points the Swedes made back in March/April is that despite considerable early casualties, over the course of a full year they don't expect their annual death rate to be much greater than normal, primarily because the population at greatest risk from Covid were those likely to die within the following twelve months anyway. There were almost 57,000 thousand excess deaths between the 20th of March and early June, most of that has to be down to Covd19. | | | |

He’s always played the impact down. The UK has lost not far off the equivalent of half the population of Neath Port Talbot and had we not locked down t would have been much worse.

Picture 60 busses full of supporters at an away game, and all those have died from Covid so far this year. How's that for perspective?

A similar number of busses and supporters that we took to Wembley in 2011 and 2013 in fact.

Rail links between Swansea and London are considerably better than those between Swansea and Preston. Plus quite a lot of people made a weekend of those Wembley trips rather than bus it up and back on the day.

People die every day. People are losing lives that shouldn’t be because they can no longer get treatment.

And the reason for that is that so many places in the NHS are being used to deal with covid patients which you want policies to allow more and more people to have and block treatment for other things. I have an old work mate who is in intensive care with it. 46 and it has brought on pneumonia. The lower the number of cases the less people in hospital and more non covid cases can be treated. It isnt some kind of joke. These are real people losing lives and had our government been stricter over the lockdown we wouldnt now be in this position. It doesnt take a genius to see that those countries who closed borders and kept them closed are having fewer cases and have more freedoms than those who havent.

It probably was more but there were around 60 official buses leaving the Liberty. There were many unofficial busses of course.

But it was your comment saying it is all lies, that led to Builth jumping in with the pathetic educating pork comment, that led to the response in kind that you are complaining about. I am unsure anyone on this forum is saying it is all lies, nor belittles the horrible deaths that this can lead to, but if we want to have an intelligent discussion rather than name calling, then we must consider both the benefits and problems caused by lockdown, and the massive burden we are putting on future generations. It is a nightmare to try and find a balance and many older people’s latter time on this earth is being lived out in miserable isolation because of this. Families having to decide who they can see. What is the solution, I don’t know. I am careful as can practically be, but that does not make us safe. It is desperately sad to see little children afraid of this, and trying to put a brave face on, whilst computing the fact that they might kill their grandparents if they hug them. We must tread our way through this as best we can, there is no perfect solution, and abusing each other does not help.

Yes that's true but at the same time, if hospitals are crammed full of covid patients then other patients will not be seen which will cause more deaths that needn't be. It's been a massive balancing act which the powers that be haven't handled very well. People saying there's been an over reaction, the virus isn't that bad, we don't need lockdown, going out partying, going to raves or cramming into shops when lockdowns end are all part of the problem.
