I can agree with you there. It's not just fishing though, it's the ratchet clause, from what was said on Andrew Marr this morning. Ed Milliband, what a donkey. First he says anything but a deal isn't acceptable then he says we need to negotiate a tough but fair deal on fishing. Which is it, a deal no matter what or a tough but fair deal? Lets face it, how can it be tough and fair? Myself, I'm all for a fair deal. We can give EU boats a fishing quota but the allowances need to be reduced vastly to help stocks replenish, If we carry on at current rates the fish will be gone.

The fishing rights are worth very little. But it's a chance for Boris to play the sovereignty card. And to threaten with gun boats which the rabid right in this country happy. What happens next year is down to brexit and the tories, they have been Power for 15yrs. The state of this country is on their watch

There’s an interesting article in the Independent about Brexit, the comments re about the Chancellor would may be correct as there an article in the DM which makes an adverse comment re his views on No Deal. Fishing employs about 25,000 people, the motor manufacturing and wider component supply business allegedly employs about 1m people, that’s potentially a lot of jobs going if large tariffs are slapped on their exports. https://www.independent.co.uk/ If Boris is right, he can bask in the glory, if he’s wrong then he and the others who have driven this have to own it.

| Another Brexit benefit .... on 10:19 - Dec 13 by felixstowe_jack | The EU had to bring in quotas as the french and Spanish fishermen had taken all the fish in the EU waters. Plenty of fish left in UK waters. Despite our generous offer to let the French fish in our waters, with a reduced quota of course, macron turned it down. Now the French fishermen have none. |
So imagine if the French fishermen do have nothing. Then the French government will need to look for leverage on UK. And their French port of Calais gives them major league leverage on Uk..... If you are going to play silly b@stards, then you need somebody far brighter than that dumbo Johnson in charge. The UK is screwed.

Well that'd screw over the Irish too. It'd be a nuisance but there are large ports in Holland, Groningen, Rotterdam, Zeeland and Amsterdam. There again, how would the EU commission feel about it? It depends I guess on whether there is actually a deal. There again, I don't suppose French fishing is very much larger than UK fishing and some on here think it's not big enough to ruin a deal over, would Macron really do anything or is it just posturing?

Oh jeez we’ve been through this before. The fishing industry might only be a tiny part of the overall economy but it’s everything to a lot of coastal communities in a similar way that steel is important to Port Talbot even though it’s a tiny part of the U.K. economy.

No. The reason Johnson is using fish is that it plays to the simpletons amongst us. Brave Boris fights for fish. Johnson himself of course things its pretty funny. He is taking the pish. He knows nothing of the uk fishing industry. Hr cares even less. If it has any real value its as a trade off against state support and other more serious matters under consuderation. Fish is a dead cat.

Macron has an election. He can't be seen to make a reasonable deal over fish otherwise he will loose the election. It does not help that barnier is French as well and under orders from Macron not to give the UK a fair deal. They are both graduates of the ecole nationale d'administration. This is a french college for the elite which has a far narrow intake than any British public school and oxbridge.

So those who support the fishing industry are simpletons now? Does that mean Macron and the EU negotiators are appealing to the simpletons in the EU too? I reckon Bojo knows more about the fishing industry than any of us do, he'll have had an expert briefing him. Saying all that, it looks like Macron has backed down anyway.

As a group of island nations we are intrinsically culturally and historically married to the sea. None of our coastal communities would be there without it. You’re talking thousands of years of people depending on it. It’s more than a commodity to be bought and sold, it’s an ancient way of life. Methinks I see a host of craft spreading their sails a-lee As down the Humber they do glide all bound for the Northern Sea. Methinks I see on each small craft a crew with hearts so brave Going out to earn their daily bread upon the restless wave. And it's three score and ten boys and men were lost from Grimsby town. From Yarmouth down to Scarborough many hundreds more were drowned. Our herring craft, our trawlers, our fishing smacks as well, They long to fight the bitter night and battle with the swell. Methinks I see them yet again as they leave the shores behind And cast their nets into the waves , those herring shoals to find. Methinks I see them yet again and all on board's all right, With their sails close reefed and the decks cleared up and the sidelights burning bright. Well October's night t'was such a sight, t'was never seen before: As masts and yards and broken spars came floating to the shore. There was many a heart of sorrow, there was many a heart so brave. There was many a hearty fisher lad who found their watery grave.

Right, so in summary you believe that the issue of fish will decide the French General Election. I really have heard it all now. ðŸ ðŸ ðŸ Nobody gives a feck about fish. And the irony is we sell the fish we do catch to Europe. So if there is no deal ....then .... yes thats right ..... we cant sell the fish to Europe without tariffs, the uk fishing industry is completely screwed. Johnson is a real bright spark.

He’s pinched that line from James O’Brien, I think. Clever presenter is Mr O’Brien but I’m not quite sure what to make of him? I’ve made it a personal rule to never trust a man who wears a silk scarf indoors unless it’s David Essex...

Nobody? We apparently buy 167 million portions of fish and chips from our chippies every year. Then there's, https://ukfisheries.net/uk-fis That's a lot of nobodies, 1.2 billion quids worth! PS, Kilk we don't sell all the fish we catch to the EU. Don't make things up.

Don’t get too hung-up on Hake, Gwyn. The real issue here for Johnson, as it would be for any Leader, is that he cannot allow for a scenario whereby Britain would be the only independent nation in the world without control of her own territorial waters.

Come on Loh, don't spoil the fun. They're trying to reduce it to fishing and then tryingto make out fishing doesn't matter but they can't win that argument anyway so don't go pointing out the bigger picture to them.
