| Georgia run off predictions 07:31 - Jan 4 with 6932 views | Dr_Parnassus | Anyone? I’m going with a double Democrat win sadly taking it to 50 seats each. I think Warnock beats Loeffler. Closer race in the regular one but Ossoff to pip Perdue. Will give the tying decision to the VP which isn’t good news for the Republicans, or America in general if you ask me. But there are a couple of floating congresspeople that cross party lines so who knows, hopefully they block any of the madder changes that come up and ditch party affiliation. 1 seat win out of the 2 should be enough for the Republicans though, which is most likely to come from Perdue if any. Interesting few days ahead. | |

It would make everyone a have not though, except the elites. Not very appealing. Anyone that works hard can make something of themselves over there, which is why so many are desperate to get there. Can’t imagine there are too many in the queue to get into North Korea or Venezuela. We can only hope there are enough democrats in congress that are completely aware of the history and reality of socialism and block any sniff of it. [Post edited 6 Jan 2021 8:32]

That is not true that anyone that works hard can make something of themselves because of illness and misfortune, those people are just discarded by the American state.

Rubbish, there are plenty of unfortunate or ill people that can make a success of themselves. That’s capitalism for you. Many companies have disability quotas. [Post edited 6 Jan 2021 8:37]

Look at America's problems, look at the homelessness, look at the poverty, look at the crime, look at the drug addicts trying to escape everyday problems over there. America is a mess, it's a broken society, inequality is a massive problem in the USA.

All systems will have that, but capitalism has less of that than communism. Changing capitalism due to a small minority of people being in poverty (who most will have the opportunity to get out of it) for a system that has proven time and time again to ruin economies and plunge whole countries into poverty (with no prospect of getting out of it) is beyond barking. Show me a communist or socialist state without any of those things you are complaining about. One solitary example. [Post edited 6 Jan 2021 8:48]

Hong Kong. They are doing everything within their power to not to follow the Chinese rule. American flags are seen all over the place there. Common place in fact. China is a communist state, make no mistake about that. Look at the party structure to see the Leninist/Communist nature of the country, it’s as centralised as you can get. It’s a communist state with a veneer of capitalist ideals. Every inch of land is owned by the Government, including Beijing. Not something you will be wanting in Britain or America that’s for sure. Other countries waving the American flag as a sign of freedom as its disrespected by the privileged and ignorant is awful to see. [Post edited 6 Jan 2021 10:17]

Inequality is a massive problem across the world. There are no better examples than China and Russia where there are super rich and the totally poverty stricken. If you want to see the difference in cultures between Eats and West just look at Hong Kong where the Chinese government is clamping down hard on anybody who dares speak up. As Prof says China is Authoritarian, they want the benefits of capitalism for the favoured few but they make the majority live in fear. Hong Kong is fighting back and we should be supporting them, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/wor

Well I would not want Chinese-style rule or the huge inequalities in the US personally. Though we seem to be hell bent on the latter. Food and drink is at least better in the US than China.
| Georgia run off predictions on 11:06 - Jan 6 with 828 views | Dr_Winston | China hasn't been Communist for decades. They've lifted far too many hundreds of millions of people out of poverty for any suggestion that they are to be taken in any way seriously. They'd still be starving to death in the countryside if they were. They are however very much Authoritarian, which isn't the same thing at all, regardless of what they still call themselves. | |
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

We tried unchecked capitalism over here during the Victorian era, and you don't need to read all of Dickens's novels to know it doesn't work. Social justice and equality doesn't have to mean socialism. You only have to look at the Scandinavian counties to appreciate how ensuring everyone has dignity and decency creates a much more pleasant society for all, with lower crime rates and higher standard of education. A society based upon horrendous inequality, and propped up by a violent police force suppressing those on the lowest rungs, is a recipe for social unrest, crime, and violence.

It's certainly not appealing to the rich and powerful. Face it Trampie, there will never be a fair and equal world. There will always be the bosses and the workers. As nice an idea as it is, if we all had the same, all had a roughly equal life what happens to drive and ambition? Why bother trying if hard work only gets you what your slacker neighbour has? The human race is too selfish and stupid and in a strange twist, the further up the ladder people get, the more they acquire, the more selfish and greedy most of them become. Some of them become philanthropists but it's the few.

It is the young middle classes and the elites that are rioting as they are afraid of losing their privileges.

The elites are not rioting, the so called elites run the show wherever you are in the world. If you have enough wealth you will always be ok. In HK those with the most to lose are the workers. Besides which, in the words of Hong Kong citizens, they are not rioting, they are trying to peacefully protest. Then the Chinese government sends in the armed police and the violence starts.
