| Drakeford and vaccines 19:27 - Feb 6 with 10966 views | exhmrc1 | For all you Drakeford, Gething and WG slaters on here Wales has currently vaccinated more than any other UK nation. Wales has overtaken England to lead the UK on the rate of the population getting a first dose of Covid vaccine. More than 550,000 people in the top priority groups have been given their first doses of Covid vaccines in Wales. It means 17.7% of the Welsh population has been vaccinated, compared to 17.5 % of the population in England, 14.4% in Scotland and 15.3% in Northern Ireland. This has been done at the same time as having nearly half the current infection rate as England and without dragging over 80s miles for vaccinations. Well done to all concerned. | | | | |

| Drakeford and vaccines on 15:55 - Feb 24 by exhmrc1 | Drakeford hasnt been poor. Maybe some of you right wingers on here think so. His popularity rating throughout have been good. It isnt me who has spent the last year slagging him off is it. That is you. The opinion polls have backed him throughout. His popularity dropped in December but will go up again. People on here are not representative of the Welsh people. Have a look at the results of the ITV poll in September when you and others were slagging him off. I am certainly not alone in backing him. Only Labour political leaders are more liked than disliked in Wales, with Conservatives and the new Liberal Democrat leader doing particularly badly, according to a poll commissioned by ITV Cymru Wales. As well as asking people which party they would vote for, the Welsh Barometer poll measures how much voters like - or dislike - party leaders. The findings show that Mark Drakeford has moved ahead of Labour's UK leader, Sir Keir Starmer, and now tops the list of six Senedd and Westminster party leaders that we asked about. First Minister Mark Drakeford has been growing in popularity for some time First Minister Mark Drakeford has been growing in popularity for some time Credit: ITV Cymru Wales The First Minister has been rising in public estimation for some time, probably because his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has raised his profile and generally won approval. Meanwhile the new leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, came out with the lowest popularity rating. People were asked to score the following political leaders out of 10, with 10 meaning that they strongly liked them and 0 that they strongly disliked them. Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales - 5.3 Sir Keir Starmer, Leader of UK Labour - 5.1 Adam Price, Leader of Plaid Cymru - 4.7 Prime Minister Boris Johnson - 3.9 Paul Davies, Leader of Welsh Conservatives - 3.7 Sir Ed Davey, Leader of Liberal Democrats - 3.7 In an era when politicians are often deeply unpopular, it's an achievement to get above five. That's a feat managed this time only by Labour politicians. The new entrant is Sir Ed Davey who has only just become leader of the Liberal Democrats. Most voters said they simply didn't know what they thought of him but most of those who did, tended to dislike him. Poll puts Welsh Conservatives on course to lose three Westminster seats Almost certainly that's tied to the collapse in Welsh support for the Liberal Democrats; just 2% said they would vote for them in a Westminster election. Sir Ed himself, on his first visit to Wales as leader, made it clear that he had no illusions about his party's plight. "What I'm saying to the party nationally is wake up and smell the coffee. People don't think we're on their side any more. Voters don't think we share their values. And if we're going to put that right, we've got to listen to voters", he said. |
Is this just a welsh poll?

I care how many mistakes he's made full stop and it's far more than two. Stop comparing us to Johnson and England. Just look how we stack up compared to Scotland and Northern Ireland to see how abysmally this crisis has been handled by Drakeford. |
What about all the times you posted it when it wasnt in your favour. The Northern Ireland rate is close on Wales and before long there will be very little in it. Northern Ireland isnt affect so much by Johnson's idiot decisions and Scotland also. Wales is adjoined to England and bulk of our population is in the east very closed to the border. That isnt the case for either of the other countries. Another factor you totally chose to ignore. There are other reasons as well. Wales has higher amounts of over 80s. 55% of deaths are those over 80. It also has higher rates of over 65s. Yes there isnt any doubt. The article explains the reasons . NOT that you would take any notice as it doesnt suit your argument. How about the fact that Wales has currently the lowest case and death rates. As far as BAME rates is concerned they dont die anywhere at near the rates of over 80s and Wales has 3% higher than some UK countries. As far as the Kent variant it has been here for months just like England. By the way was the Kent variant around in the summer when the figures I showed in response to Catullus were happening. Trying to use the Kent variant as an excuse doesnt explain those details. As the figures have closed considerably throughout the summer and again now yes I do believe Drakeford is doing a good job.

For the last time. The Kent variant made up 80% of cases in SE England, where about 12 million people live in early December. It only became the dominant variety (just over 50% of cases) in Wales in early February after cases fell and we were in lockdown. What this means is that more people got infected and may have died in the most densely populated part of England 2 months before it came here and by then we were in lockdown. That is a fact. The article states people live in poverty, close together and depend on public transport. Well, have you seen parts of Birmingham, Manchester and London? Or any other big city in England? The same applies there too but at a far larger scale. I know you think Drakeford is doing a good job, you think that for political reasons. It is clear he's done anything but.

Well I dont think it for political reasons. Never have done. I think it because he acted sensibly unlike another. He didnt rush to come out of lockdown and acted in a sensible cautious manner. He acted on medical and scientific advice unlike someone else who acted against it despite claiming he was acting with it. In fact the idiot minister of Transport has since said they werent acting on medical and scientific advice but were guided by it ie not always following it. The result of all this is that the figures have consistently improved long before the Kent strain came out. As you seem to have problems understanding it July and August was before September when the Kent strain was supposedly happening. If you read the full facts Hancock announced this strain in the House of Commons on 13 December and it was because this strain was in Wales that Drakeford acted to stop the sale of alcohol the next day. Far from months before but then your failure to grasp detail isnt surprising given your failure to actually follow facts. https://www.kentlive.news/news | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Suggest you learn to read things properly. Hancock's comments dont refer to it being dominant in England either on 13 December the day before it was confirmed there were cases in Wales. "We do not know the extent to which this is because of the new variant but no matter its cause we have to take swift and decisive action which unfortunately is absolutely essential to control this deadly disease while the vaccine is rolled out," he added. You still havent answered the fact that the amounts that were far less than England in the summer had nothing to do with the Kent virus. It wasnt around then but the Welsh figures were far less then. It isnt down to the Kent virus as you suggest. This has been going on long before that. Time for you to recognise reality. [Post edited 25 Feb 2021 23:25]

I'm not sure how you aren't grasping this it is quite simple. In mid December a new strain was discovered in SE England. It made up the majority of cases and was up to 70% more transmissible, that means 70% more contagious. In SE England it made up over 50% of cases, for example if there were 10,000 cases at least 5001 were the new variant. SE England is the most populated part of the UK. So lots of people live there in cramped conditions who can catch it. At the time they were in tier 2, it was spreading unknown before they went in to lockdown. It was "present' in Wales in low numbers, there are less of us living here in less dense populations. Less of the virus to spread in areas where less people live further apart from each other. At that time Wales was rampant with covid after the disastrous firebreak release restrictions so we were heavily restricted again by early December. Which is when the variant was discovered. Figures from England in early Feb make no difference. We had less over the summer because we were stupidly in lockdown longer. How did that end up? Oh yes most infections and highest deaths. Stop trying to belittle, you're making yourself look like an idiot.

You totally ignore the fact that other than the early part of the pandemic in March and April the rate in Wales has consistently been closing the gap and the daily rates were lower on a daily level. Clear evidence that the WG policies were working. All that time you kept showing the overall rate that England was lower. Well you have fallen flat on your face because England now has the higher rate and it isnt because of the Kent strain as this was going on long before the Kent strain. As for the rate of deaths the rate is lower in Wales and that is based on the system both governments use. The one with positive tests not suspected deaths. The ONS and public health bodies are measuring things in a different way - and information is available at different times so do not expect to see the same thing. The virus may not be the main cause of death, just a factor. There does not need to have been a positive test - it could be it was just suspected by the doctor. You might have seen the thread by Brit Ferry. 3 negative tests yet the ONS class it as a covid death. What nonsense. Most people in all backgrounds would trust something with a positive test to be more accurate but you use a system which doesnt even require a positive test over one where one which knows there actually was covid.
