Drakeford and vaccines 19:27 - Feb 6 with 10968 viewsexhmrc1

For all you Drakeford, Gething and WG slaters on here Wales has currently vaccinated more than any other UK nation.

Wales has overtaken England to lead the UK on the rate of the population getting a first dose of Covid vaccine.

More than 550,000 people in the top priority groups have been given their first doses of Covid vaccines in Wales.

It means 17.7% of the Welsh population has been vaccinated, compared to 17.5 % of the population in England, 14.4% in Scotland and 15.3% in Northern Ireland.

This has been done at the same time as having nearly half the current infection rate as England and without dragging over 80s miles for vaccinations.

Well done to all concerned.

It's not fact. It's your interpretation of a situation. It is frequently wrong.

I'm Welsh, I want what is best for Wales. I'll be honest I don't really care what is happening in England. Boris is useless but he's England's problem in this situation.

Drakeford didn't refuse to open stadiums, he couldn't because our infections levels were higher than the tier 3 level in England in which stadiums were closed.

Unfortunately Drakeford has been proven to be at least as useless. He is our problem. I don't hate him, I don't hate his politics but he has spent half the time being a dithering fool and when he acts decisively getting it wrong. Just look at the longer lockdown for no reason, opening businesses with no guidance, the free for all after the firebreak (called by Starmer), the u turn over holding back vaccines and now no clear route our of lockdown.

We have most infections and most deaths, if you use the 28 day for any reason method we have slightly fewer than England but still far more than Scotland and N Ireland, despite having less Kent variant. That is ultimately what matters. This is fact.

Both Boris and Drakeford are useless idiots - there is no excuse for either. But Drakeford is our useless idiot.

As can be seen below you are totally wrong. On 3 September Wales had 50 cases England 1507 at the time. Football grounds opened a week or so later but it was very shortlived.

Cardiff City tried to get Drakeford to let in 2000 fans initially which was refused. On that date 21 August Wales had 34 new cases. They susequently tied to get a 10000 capacity which was rejected also.

Does England report deaths the same way as Wales? I ask this because (and I have mentioned it before) Wlaes only announces deaths in Hospitals which it says today are around 5,250 BUT, the real total number of death in Waless where COVID is on the death certificate is up over 7000.

No one can clim Bojo got it anywhere near right but climing Drakeford did is rubbish too. I remember Drakeford aying he wouldn't consider a new law because people will just break it, I remeber him saying the existing rules wouldn't be enforced, hardly great leadership. It was basically saying here are the rules but feel free to break them, we won't do anything.
Yet later on they had to start enforcing the rules because the infection and death rate became shocking.
It hasn't stopped the Senedd passing other laws either. Maybe people should ignore the smoking law? Maybe they won't enforce that.
Just because Bojo is an utter waste of space it doesn't mean Drakeford has been good.

Sturgeon has her own problems. She is under increasing pressure to resign, there's even a petition going oop north to get her out.

The only politicians who don't seem to get much stick are in Northern Ireland!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

That is a classic example of you misinterpreting a "fact".

The T20 with crowds at the oval was a social distancing trial event, specifically to test safety.

Cardiff City weren't denied crowds because Drakeford is dome sort of covid safety messiah but because it wasn't a covid safety trial game. Exactly the same would have happened if a club like Bristol City had made the same request.

Crowds were let into championship games in England and they were not trial events. Drakeford prevented crowds returning to Swansea Cardiff Newport and Wrexham

Only as part of covid trials until November. Only in November were a maximum of 4000 in tiers 1 and 2.

Cardiff City were refused because they weren't part of a trial and in November Wales would have been in tier 3 on infection level.

There were 8 EFL matches in September with crowds allowed in. It doesnt matter whether trial or not. Crowds were allowed in with Johnson support. Also some lower tier level games have had fans allowed in since August but none in Wales.

Of course it matters that they were trial games. You made out that Johnson just allowed fans to attend, they were actually to see if it could be done safely.

You're interpretation and spin of the facts, omitting the absolutely crucial point.

Yes. But it's a fact that it was purely a trial basis too, you've omitted that crucial part.

You've accused me of hating Drakeford when the only hatred is from you towards Johnson.

Look at the entire situation, Drakeford and Johnson are as bad as each other, they've both made massive mistakes at different times.

From my point of view this is nothing to do with politics. Drakeford has made an absolute hash of this situation since May 2020, I hope he's gone after this May. Him and his cohort are simply not good enough.

That just suggests Johnson is aware that a couple of thousand fans rattling around outdoors in a concrete bowl fit to take ten times as many isn't exactly a huge risk, whereas Drakeford is still determined that we should be disencouraged to step outside our front doors.

Try sticking to facts instead of your hatred.
Who has the highest rate of first vaccinations.
Who has the highest rate of second vaccinations.
Who has the lower death rate based on the system both governments prefer and use.
Who has the lower rate of cases since the start of the virus.
Who has the lowest rate at the moment.

All these point to Wales and Drakeford yet you consistently try to say otherwise to suit your political agenda.

Who is it that brought in policies that led to the increase of cases from Mid Summer onwards and is now talking about the mistake in foreign holidays again when we have absolutely no idea of whether the vaccine will work against future variants something you yourself have posted about the AZ vaccine not working against the South African variants.

I prefer someone who tries to act carefully rather than someone making irresponsible statements which then prove totally unrealistic. Someone who follows scientific advice and doesnt over rule it.

Someone who didnt stupidly allow fans back whilst cases were escalating and didnt allow people to go on holidays and bring the virus back and didnt have policies to allow new variants to get in through his open borders policies and was totally foolish to suggest we would be back to normal by Christmas.

I support Drakeford for all these things. You support Johnson's policies and ask why these things happened. It was also the policies you have supported all along.

Wales was the worst in every vaccination stat until he came under pressure from absolutely everywhere, it was even on the BBC news. Fair enough, Drakeford responded to that and got it right, more right than anywhere else in the Uk but if he'd been left uncriticsed we'd still be last.
What about the Drakeford U turn on enforcing of rules? What about hisprocrastination in writing to Bojo twice instead of just acting.

One politician being wrong deosn't mean another politician is right.

You rant on about the fans being allowed in but keep taking it completely out of context. It was a trial situation, it wasn't a case of all stadia being allowed to open and filled to capacity.

Wasn't Drakeford irresponsible when he said the 2 week firebreak wouldn't be extended? Didn't that deserve extra consideration and seeing where the data went?
Wasn't Drakeford iresponsible in agreeing the Christmas bubble with Bojo? Even on here we could see it was a bad idea. Of course because Bojo suggested it only Bojo is to blame!

There is no Uk government, probably no European government that has handled this pandemic well. They all tried putting economics first, tried to rush out of safety and ran headlong into a storm. Drakeford, Bojo, Sturgeon all got it wrong. Drakeford and Sturgeon in part because they seemed determined to be different to England.

You've done the same as Dr P, when people speak up against your chosen political stance you accuse people of hating that person.

I don't hate Drakeford just like I don't hate Bojo...or Trump... I just judge them by what is happening. It's nothing personal it's all about performance and outcomes.

Welsh deaths are above 7000 when you count those that died at home too, lets hope all our politician have learned their lessons otherwise us ordinary people will be the ones paying the price yet again.

Drakeford like all leaders has made mistakes but far fewer than Johnson.

People like Scotia have criticised Drakeford for his cautious approach. I believe that cautious approach has been right and should be the same approach now. We opened things up later. Scotia criticised it. We didnt allow fans in stadia. We had a stay local rule. Scotia criticised it bit I believe it was right and England are now planning using it. It was Johnson who brought in the Air Bridges policy which led to the explosion in cases from August onwards. Scotia supported it. Because of this open borders policy we now have have the South African and Brazilian variants. Perhaps you support all these. I dont. I actually believe a cautious approach is the right one. I said this when pubs, gyms and air bridges were decided and Scotia decided it was rubbish,

You fail to recognised the 1000s that were removed out of the English figures. The Welsh figures include all deaths in hospitals or care homes where there has been a positive test. Your assumption that there are an extra 2000 people dying at home is nonsense, Check the PHW twitter page and in small print underneath it confirms the figures includes residents in care homes.

Drakeford has made mistakes certainly early in the virus and indeed allowing 4 to meet in pubs from different households was stupid as was agreeing to the Christmas relaxation but the reality is that from June onwards for almost the whole time the daily Welsh cases and deaths were pro rata lower than England. Have a look at the figures from gov.uk and you will find that.

I believe that Drakeford along with the other devolved leaders acted far more sensibly then Johnson. They didnt rush to open things against the advice given which actually has led to the position we have been in the last 6 or so months. They pretty much acted together whilst Johnson decided things on his own.

The UK should have acted together but it can only be done by the governments acting together in a consensus. Something Johnson wouldnt do. He only spoke to Drakeford once in 3 months and it was the same with Sturgeon. The devolved leaders were in regular discussions.

Who has the highest rate of first vaccinations?

Wales.

Who has the highest rate of second vaccinations?

Wales? I haven't checked.

In truth there isn't much in vaccinations across the UK but it's good to see, I'm not going to deny that. Of course Drakeford DID say he didn't want vaccinators standing around doing nothing. I assume some now are? That's good but an idiotic thing to say.

The vaccines were also bought by Westminster. So WG can't take all the credit can they?

Who has the lower death rate based on the system both governments prefer and use?

Northern Ireland, followed by Scotland. Wales has 50% more deaths per 100,00 than N. Ireland and 25% more than Scotland.
If you use the more accurate "covid on death certificate" Wales has nearly 100% more deaths than N Ireland, and the most in the UK.

Who has the lower rate of cases since the start of the virus?

Scotland. Wales have considerably more per 100000 than Scotland and Northern Ireland, in fact almost has much as England (6417 / 100000 v 6435 / 100000) . Despite England having the Kent variant in abundance and a far larger urban conurbations.

Who has the lowest rate at the moment?

Wales. Of course, what underpins this is that Wales has not been exposed to the level of Kent variant that England was before lockdown. This is a crucial fact, as it is 70% more transmissible and accounted for up to 80% of cases in SE England.
This will also significantly increase the death rate in England compared to Wales.

Wales did make the correct call in lockdown before Christmas, at that point we had almost the highest levels of infection IN THE WORLD, despite not having the Kent variant in significant quantities. Thank God we didn't. We would be in a worse position than we are now.

This is not a Wales v England scenario, to think it is is pathetic. Are you actually happy that vastly more Welsh people have died than Irish or Scots because more English have dies within 28 days of a covid test? Seriously, does this please you? It makes my blood boil.

Are you really happy that Wales has suffered so much under Drakefords leadership? We are in a much worse position than Scotland and Northern Ireland and almost as bad a place as England - despite not being exposed to so much of the more transmissible variant, not having huge cities, less deprivation and far less BAME communities.

This isn't a Drakeford v Johnson contest or Labour v Tory. They are both useless.

Stop burying your head in the sand, consider all of the facts, circumstances and variables and acknowledge that Drakeford is a disaster. It is plain for all to see, everyone that is apart from you.

Drakeford hasnt been poor. Maybe some of you right wingers on here think so. His popularity rating throughout have been good. It isnt me who has spent the last year slagging him off is it. That is you. The opinion polls have backed him throughout. His popularity dropped in December but will go up again. People on here are not representative of the Welsh people. Have a look at the results of the ITV poll in September when you and others were slagging him off. I am certainly not alone in backing him.

Only Labour political leaders are more liked than disliked in Wales, with Conservatives and the new Liberal Democrat leader doing particularly badly, according to a poll commissioned by ITV Cymru Wales.

As well as asking people which party they would vote for, the Welsh Barometer poll measures how much voters like - or dislike - party leaders.

The findings show that Mark Drakeford has moved ahead of Labour's UK leader, Sir Keir Starmer, and now tops the list of six Senedd and Westminster party leaders that we asked about.

The First Minister has been rising in public estimation for some time, probably because his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has raised his profile and generally won approval.

Meanwhile the new leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, came out with the lowest popularity rating.

People were asked to score the following political leaders out of 10, with 10 meaning that they strongly liked them and 0 that they strongly disliked them.

Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales - 5.3

Sir Keir Starmer, Leader of UK Labour - 5.1

Adam Price, Leader of Plaid Cymru - 4.7

Prime Minister Boris Johnson - 3.9

Paul Davies, Leader of Welsh Conservatives - 3.7

Sir Ed Davey, Leader of Liberal Democrats - 3.7

In an era when politicians are often deeply unpopular, it's an achievement to get above five. That's a feat managed this time only by Labour politicians.

The new entrant is Sir Ed Davey who has only just become leader of the Liberal Democrats. Most voters said they simply didn't know what they thought of him but most of those who did, tended to dislike him.

Poll puts Welsh Conservatives on course to lose three Westminster seats

Almost certainly that's tied to the collapse in Welsh support for the Liberal Democrats; just 2% said they would vote for them in a Westminster election. Sir Ed himself, on his first visit to Wales as leader, made it clear that he had no illusions about his party's plight.

"What I'm saying to the party nationally is wake up and smell the coffee. People don't think we're on their side any more. Voters don't think we share their values. And if we're going to put that right, we've got to listen to voters", he said.

For God's sake man, that has got to be the most irrelevant and stupid post I've ever read.

It's a pandemic not a popularity contest.

Yes or No. Are you happy that considerably more Welsh people have died than Scots or Irish because (on one type of score) more English people have died?

That's the crux of the matter. I'm livid about it. And it is Drakefords fault.

Yep,Ive commented as such.England v Wales at every turn.

Just look at the state we're in as a nation.

Hatred of England is palpable and not representative of Wales ,a a whole.Thankfully.

What we see is some really shameful embarrasing stuff that is frankly as openly racist as is possible to be.

Keith, you need to step on this .

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

This isnt racist. It is a comparison against Johnson's performance in England as against Drakeford's performance in Wales. Also takes into account that Johnson's policy of open borders affects Wales and was the reason for the increase we had in Wales from August onwards. I dont think you supported the opening of borders and pubs either did you. I doubt you will support foreign holidays this year either or having nightclubs open or the Reading and Leeds festivals going on in August. Yes the figures do show the difference between England and Wales. They have to otherwise the success of Drakeford as against Johnson cannot be seen.
