| Drakeford and vaccines 19:27 - Feb 6 with 10960 views | exhmrc1 | For all you Drakeford, Gething and WG slaters on here Wales has currently vaccinated more than any other UK nation. Wales has overtaken England to lead the UK on the rate of the population getting a first dose of Covid vaccine. More than 550,000 people in the top priority groups have been given their first doses of Covid vaccines in Wales. It means 17.7% of the Welsh population has been vaccinated, compared to 17.5 % of the population in England, 14.4% in Scotland and 15.3% in Northern Ireland. This has been done at the same time as having nearly half the current infection rate as England and without dragging over 80s miles for vaccinations. Well done to all concerned. | | | | |

| Drakeford and vaccines on 16:57 - Feb 24 by exhmrc1 | This isnt racist. It is a comparison against Johnson's performance in England as against Drakeford's performance in Wales. Also takes into account that Johnson's policy of open borders affects Wales and was the reason for the increase we had in Wales from August onwards. I dont think you supported the opening of borders and pubs either did you. I doubt you will support foreign holidays this year either or having nightclubs open or the Reading and Leeds festivals going on in August. Yes the figures do show the difference between England and Wales. They have to otherwise the success of Drakeford as against Johnson cannot be seen. |
You could argue that Drakefords only success is with the rollout of the vaccines which couldn't have happened if Bojo hadn't got the purchasing of said vaccines right. Otherwise there is very little between them.

Certainly not the case. Lets look at figures back in August 18 August Wales 24 England 975 19 August Wales 21 England 707 20 August Wales 19 England 1035 21 August Wales 34 England 908 This is typical of what happened from June onwards yet you and others fail to recognise it. This happened because Drakeford's policies were cautious while JohnsoN kept opening everything including borders. Through this period people returned from abroad on holidays and the virus spread in Wales AND England. Not racist as all OHG. Anyway this summer we are about to have people again coming back infected, nightclubs open. The Leeds and Reading festivals have announced they are going ahead. We dont know what the vaccine take up is going to be in the younger age groups who mainly attend these. We dont know whether the vaccines are going to work against newer strains but we recklessly plan to open everything up courtesy of the UK prime minister. Surely you, Scotia, OHG, Dr W and the others support that dont you. Let us add to it todays figures Wales 236 Scotland 798 Northern Ireland 260 England 8644. Obviously another Drakeford failure. Of course I support it. Johnson hasn't recklessly planned anything, that is a lie. He's said the plans and dates suggested have to meet tests to follow the plan and are the earliest possible dates for things to open. Drakeford has given no clarity at all, as usual he's waiting for others to make decisions for him The economy is on its knees and it absolutely has to recover. It is easy for you as you are taking state benefits, would you sacrifice those to support those who would be working in festivals, the travel industry, the arts and hospitality? Poverty is a bigger killer than covid. It has to be done safely and it can be. Variants could change everything, but if the vaccines do stop serious illness and we now where outbreaks are there's no reason why we can't have those events. Everyone will be offered a vaccine by the time most of those will happen. The festivals should have a vaccine passport, as should travel together with negative tests before coming back to the country. I'd even support these measures for pubs and nightclubs at peak times. Covid is here forever, we have to live with it. I really don't think you understand this situation at all.

You championed the opening of our borders and praised it. You lauded opening of pubs. The fact is that even Johnson and his cabinet saw that had not worked. You only have to look at the Tier system they brought in and the restrictions that were put in place for pubs and this was in England not Wales by the way. Johnson promised his roadmap would depend on data not dates then why has he put in dates when to be honest nobody knows what the situation might be in a month let alone 5. He was totally right about data and not dates so why are there dated. Drakeford is right to look at things as they develop. Putting out a plan giving dates is foolish and wrong. If the UK hadnt opened borders, pubs and gyms other businesses would not have to close because the virus wouldnt have spread so your idea of getting everything open has actually caused the crisis were are in. Look at the figures they tell you everything The figures had dropped from 57 on 1 July to 8 on 12 August. The effect of opening schools, tourism, non essential shops, hairdressers was all during that period and cases fell. By 1 September when the effect of opening borders, pubs and gyms had been felt we had 51 new cases and by 1 October we had 398 cases. This all escalated after people came back infected and spread it through pubs, homes and schools. It then just continued spreading. You want to take the same actions again and will lead to the same result. I dont and all the businesses out there have the policies that you have supported to blame for the period they have spent in lockdown so that you can open business that are very risky.

Seriously why do you bother? That post is nonsense, utter nonsense. When do you think we should allow these businesses to open? They pay people's wages and your benefits. Stop hating Johnson and just look, objectively, at the disaster Drakeford is responsible for. I don't care what Johnson has done. Johnson has announced a road map and been quite clear the dates are a best case scenario and dependent on data. You'd have to be stupid not to understand that. Drakeford could do the same, or does he think his electorate are stupid? I'll let you answer that. You appear to be advocating all but essential business is closed for over 18 months. Even after vaccines. Are you serious? No go and watch the swans.

Perhaps it might have been better if you do so last summer instead of backing policies that led to the current lockdown that is affecting businesses. Your policy of covering the few has led to many more now in lockdown and you now want to do the same this summer. Learn from your mistakes although that is probably beyond you.

It's you who wants to "cover the few" can you not see that? I'm in a similar position to you, I don't need to leave my house, I work from home, I haven't lost a penny during this pandemic. In fact my savings are looking very healthy. But I recognise that not everyone is in that position. We are verging on an economic catastrophe, people can't live on furlough, industry HAS to get back on it' feet. All industry. We dont know how successful vaccines will be to new strains. We dont know what the take up will be amongst younger groups. Stopping new strains getting here is vital. Yet you want to just allow them to come in unchecked just like you did last year. Look at the facts. The Brazilian and South African strains didnt come here on their own. They were brought here. The way the virus exploded last year was the result of people returning from holidays with the virus. The failure to have proper border controls was the reason for the position we have been in since Christmas. We need to avoid another escalation and take action to prevent it happening. In the real world some things are too risky to open. Do you think there will be proper social distances in rock concerts or nightclubs. There wont be. Will there be proper ventilation in Nightclubs. Will you be able to stop people from different housing socially distancing. You cant now in pubs. One of the most stupid Drakeford decisions was to suggest 4 people from different households could sit together in pubs. It was senseless but in fairness most of his decisions have been far more sensible and cautious than our idiotic Prime Minister who talks caution and acts otherwise. Even now he says he will be guided by data not dates which is entirely the approach he should be taking but then outdoes it by putting dates in. For the sake of everyone we need to take actions that are safe until such time as we know it is safe. Some industries are just too risky to open and will lead again to another lockdown. The reason we are back in lockdown is following the policies Johnson did which you so foolishly backed.

More nonsense and "its all about me". Where have I ever said I want them "just allow them to come in unchecked"? Is this another question you won't answer? Nobody has ever said that - since day one I've called for a safe reopening. Don't forget Drakeford let pubs open with no guidance on customer safety at all. For the sake of everyone, and I mean everyone not just those who can afford to stay in lockdown, we need to open society safely. And I mean safely. Testing, vaccine passports, looking for new variants, travel red list areas, test and trace and local restrictions. The lot. If you need a vaccine passport and negative test to go to a safe country or the Reading festival then it has to happen and vaccine take up would probably be over 80%, even among the young.
| Drakeford and vaccines on 10:43 - Feb 25 with 540 views | Catullus | It is often overlooked that staying in lockdown is causing other medical problems which will only be entirely apparent in the future. People waiting for treatments and operations whose long term health will suffer and mean extra costs to the NHS. People only just getting added to waiting lists that are massively behind already and other people who haven't been referred yet who may find by the time they are it'll be too late, too many people are already waiting too long, https://www.walesonline.co.uk/ and people have died because their treatment was stopped/postponed/delayed due to covid. If we stayed in lockdown for another year the menatl health consequences could be huge. I will happily admit I struggle at times, it's a fight to not go stir crazy and my son is begging to go back to school, that's not normal for a 12 year old but he hasn't seen his friends for months. I haven't seen my friends in 12 months, the closest one lives 5 miles away. I haven't been 5 miles from home in what seems like forever. As Scotia says, we need to watch the data and open up as safely as possible but that still needs people to act responsibly and that is the big problem, there's too many idiots around. | |

You have continually criticised me for wanting borders closed. You have always want them left open. The result is there for all to see. We had cases coming back from returning on holidays which led to the spread of the virus from August onwards. We saw the well publicised cases from Crete and Ibiza as well as loads of un published others. The Brazilian and South African variants. Did they come here on their own. If borders are left open that is what is going to happen and it has. How many times have you ignored the very successful methods used by far eastern and australasian countries and said they cant happen here. They havent and look at the results. South African virus which may not be covered by our main vaccine because of a policy that you have been singing the praises of. We are where we are because of the failed policies you have been advocating. The likes of Singapore, Taiwan, New Zealand and even the Isle of Man are where they are as a result of the success of the policies that you have gone against. Let people come here, have Air Bridges which proved a disaster. By the time you realise there is a problem the virus is spreading. It is too late then. | Drakeford and vaccines on 15:55 - Feb 24 by exhmrc1 | Drakeford hasnt been poor. Maybe some of you right wingers on here think so. His popularity rating throughout have been good. It isnt me who has spent the last year slagging him off is it. That is you. The opinion polls have backed him throughout. His popularity dropped in December but will go up again. People on here are not representative of the Welsh people. Have a look at the results of the ITV poll in September when you and others were slagging him off. I am certainly not alone in backing him. Only Labour political leaders are more liked than disliked in Wales, with Conservatives and the new Liberal Democrat leader doing particularly badly, according to a poll commissioned by ITV Cymru Wales. As well as asking people which party they would vote for, the Welsh Barometer poll measures how much voters like - or dislike - party leaders. The findings show that Mark Drakeford has moved ahead of Labour's UK leader, Sir Keir Starmer, and now tops the list of six Senedd and Westminster party leaders that we asked about. First Minister Mark Drakeford has been growing in popularity for some time First Minister Mark Drakeford has been growing in popularity for some time Credit: ITV Cymru Wales The First Minister has been rising in public estimation for some time, probably because his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has raised his profile and generally won approval. Meanwhile the new leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey, came out with the lowest popularity rating. People were asked to score the following political leaders out of 10, with 10 meaning that they strongly liked them and 0 that they strongly disliked them. Mark Drakeford, First Minister of Wales - 5.3 Sir Keir Starmer, Leader of UK Labour - 5.1 Adam Price, Leader of Plaid Cymru - 4.7 Prime Minister Boris Johnson - 3.9 Paul Davies, Leader of Welsh Conservatives - 3.7 Sir Ed Davey, Leader of Liberal Democrats - 3.7 In an era when politicians are often deeply unpopular, it's an achievement to get above five. That's a feat managed this time only by Labour politicians. The new entrant is Sir Ed Davey who has only just become leader of the Liberal Democrats. Most voters said they simply didn't know what they thought of him but most of those who did, tended to dislike him. Poll puts Welsh Conservatives on course to lose three Westminster seats Almost certainly that's tied to the collapse in Welsh support for the Liberal Democrats; just 2% said they would vote for them in a Westminster election. Sir Ed himself, on his first visit to Wales as leader, made it clear that he had no illusions about his party's plight. "What I'm saying to the party nationally is wake up and smell the coffee. People don't think we're on their side any more. Voters don't think we share their values. And if we're going to put that right, we've got to listen to voters", he said. |
So your opinion is that anyone who disagrees ith you and/or slags Drakeford off is a right winger? Is that really it? Is it beyond your comprehension that actual left leaning people can say Drakeford is rubbish? What about all those Labour voters who chose Bojo because UK Labour was so rubbish? Are they all dyed in the wool tories now do you think? I'm not a right winger, slightly to left of centre in all political compass tests, so why do I slag off Drakeford? Fo the same reasons I slagged off Corbyn, being a Labour politician doesn't make you right or better or worth supporting. When you accused others of hate isn't the truth that you are a strong Labour supporter no matter what so you will deride anybody who says anything against Labour? That is the kind of political thinking and support that has seen our country fail so much, become so rubbish. It's why we end up with people like Bojo and Drakeford, we deserve rubbish politicians because we don't think about who we vote for because far too many of us choose by colour no matter the person behind that colour, it's red or blue for far too many. | Drakeford and vaccines on 14:56 - Feb 25 by Catullus | So your opinion is that anyone who disagrees ith you and/or slags Drakeford off is a right winger? Really, try thinking about it. |
Yes it is. He thinks i'm right wing. I don't think Drakeford has done a good job because based on what I see, read and hear every day he hasn't done a good job. I don't care if he's gay or straight, black or white, Welsh or English, socialist or capitalist. I just want him to do a decent job and treat the people like adults.

You constantly attempt to slag off Drakeford without actually considering the facts juts like Scotia and others. The reality is Drakeford has made some mistakes but nowhere near the amount Johnson. This is largely because Johnson's basic instinct has been to open everything. Unfortunately that has led to many problems. Johnson's policies impact on Wales as well as England. For example his decision to have Air Borders led to people travelling abroad and bringing the virus back. Border control is not a devolved matter so people went on holidays, came back from places like Zante and Corfu and then spread it here through visiting houses and going to pubs. This happened in places such as Maesteg, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent amongst other places. This led to the explosion of cases we have had in Wales which you blame Drakeford for but it was out of his control. Drakeford has made 2 basic mistakes. One was the stupid decision to allow 4 people to sit together from different households in pubs. In reality it would have happened anyway. Quite how a pub landlord can tell whether the people sitting together are from the same household I really dont know. This applies to a lesser degree in Cafes and restaurants as well. The other mistake was agreeing Christmas rules although in fairness he changed that before Christmas so it didnt happen. Evidence shows that early in the pandemic Wales suffered hugely particularly in Valley areas. There were reasons for that. At that time there was a difference of 1000 points in favour of England. Since that time Drakeford's policies have reduced the number of cases and as of now the figures show that England has 26 more cases per 100,000 the pandemic than Wales has. It has overturned the situation completely largely down to Drakeford's policies and this isnt just down to the Kent virus. it was happening in the summer and Autumn as well. I realise some like you and OHG dont like them but I show some figures here to prove that 12 July Wales 16 England 615 12 August Wales 8 England 925 12 September Wales.164 England 3008. This is factual evidence taken on the same date each month. Yet throughout this period you slagged off Drakeford and the Welsh Government. Justifiable criticism is fine but you and others have been criticising Drakeford based on political dislike rather than factual evidence. I base my opinion on facts. Sorry OHG if you thank this is racist but it is factual and just shows how some on here make comments based on their own politics rather than facts. The facts need to be showed so the truth can be seen.

For God's sake you don't get it do you? Nobody cares how many mistakes Drakeford has made compared to Johnson apart from you. I care how many mistakes he's made full stop and it's far more than two. Stop comparing us to Johnson and England. Just look how we stack up compared to Scotland and Northern Ireland to see how abysmally this crisis has been handled by Drakeford.
