| Drakeford and vaccines 19:27 - Feb 6 with 10954 views | exhmrc1 | For all you Drakeford, Gething and WG slaters on here Wales has currently vaccinated more than any other UK nation. Wales has overtaken England to lead the UK on the rate of the population getting a first dose of Covid vaccine. More than 550,000 people in the top priority groups have been given their first doses of Covid vaccines in Wales. It means 17.7% of the Welsh population has been vaccinated, compared to 17.5 % of the population in England, 14.4% in Scotland and 15.3% in Northern Ireland. This has been done at the same time as having nearly half the current infection rate as England and without dragging over 80s miles for vaccinations. Well done to all concerned. | | | | |

| Drakeford and vaccines on 21:36 - Feb 12 by exhmrc1 | We dont have the most deaths. The figures used by all political parties show that we dont. The ONS figures are not used and are not accurate. It doesnt need to be a definite reason just somebody suspects. The ONS fIgures are actually higher than the excess deaths as against previous years and are 2 weeks out of date. There is a reason PHW and their counterpart use the figures I use. They are more accurate. As far as the cases figures you used figures that showed Wales had 1000 more case per 100000. This has reduced to 48 and will soon have a higher English rate than Wales based on current trends. The fact it has dropped from 1000 back in May to 48 today shows that throughout that time the Welsh figures have been consistently lower and that was long before the new strain was discovered. Wales currently has just under half the English rate. We have the Kent and South African strains here. |
You post some nonsensical rubbish but this takes the biscuit. WE HAVE THE MOST DEATHS. So now the office of national statistics are wrong? I don't care what political parties use, I'm not a member of any. I care what people are dying of. In Wales more than anywhere else it is covid. Thanks to our leadership and social demographics his party has had responsibility for, for over 20 years. You've made enough excuses for the 28 day rule. Even ignorantly accusing Boris of fiddling the figures only to find out it was exactly what we were doing. But now they are more accurate? Yes we have both variants. We know about the Kent variant, but haven't got a clue about South Africa, they are looking for it over the border and we aren't. Again, that is a fact. As is that we have nowhere near the levels seen in England. Apologist nonsense. You should expect better from your leader he has let you down.

The ONS figures are compiled from thr cause of deaths on deaths certificate and all deaths have to have a death certificate. The PHW AND PHS have a disclaimer on them saying they are deaths within 28 days of a positive test but they also state all coronavirus deaths are not reported to them. I think you will find the death certificate totals are about 20% higher than the 28 days total for both Scotland and Wales. In England they are about 2% higher.

It does add up Wales did 13,000 test in last 24 hours the UK did 730,000 Using you figures Wales should have done 730,000 ÷ 22 = 33,000 If you do less than half the tests you will have less than half of the cases. Infection rates based on number of new cases divided by number of tests Scotland 4.73% Wales 2.76% NI 2.64% UK average 1.82% England 1.71%

Of course comparison is utterly irrelevant and useless as a statistic unless all nations carry out the same proportion of tests per head of population.

NO, because tests are only done on those that come forward with symptoms, so there are less infected ppl in Wales than elsewhere. This is also shown in death figures - a bit morbid i know. Wales has had 5106 x 22 = 112,000 the Uk, 117,000. Wales today, 22 x 22 = 484, the Uk 621 It can be seen that Wales is doing better than the UK average. Wales is well ahead on vaccinations too.

Unfortunately there are two different death rates published Deaths with 28 days of a positive tests and deaths with coronavirus on death certificate Wales deaths ( 28 days ) 5137 death rate per 100,000 =162 Wales deaths (death certificate) 6674 death rate per 100,000 = 211 Eng deaths ( 28 days) 103,104 death rate per 100,000 = 184 Eng deaths (death certificate) 104,164 death rate per 100,000 = 185 As you can see Wales death rates comparing 28 days and death certificate is 23% while England's is less than 1%. This disparity needs an explanation. PHW does say on its dashboard that the 28 days total only includes deaths from care home and hospitalised patients and does not include deaths from other settings where a test was not carried out.

That’s not true. I’m in Hammersmith & Fulham and we’ve had mass asymptomatic testing for about 6 weeks if not more. Everywhere you go there are signs up asking us to go for tests. If you have symptoms you get tested differently, but rapid flow testing is now being used routinely here. Thousands of people with no symptoms are being tested every week. It’s a completely different system. Hence the disparity in numbers.

And this is exactly the case in my neck of the woods. Forgetting any political alligiances, this has to be good news and quite why people are saying they will not be sheep and be vaccinated I really don't know;what I do know is that they are liars. They will be first in the queue. I don't care what Bill Gates has to do with anything, nor if this vaccine is not 100% a panacea.50% efficacy is better than catching covid and dying.

The vaccine roll out has been excellent. Anyone not being vaccinated without medical reasons will soon find they can’t do lots of stuff. So it will work it’s way out. Everyone that can be vaccinated has a duty to do so to protect those that cannot.

Couldn't agree more. Why should people wilfully not have a vaccine which could see them with a virus that they can spread. We have the solution that we have been working hard to solve this crisis which affects us all individually as well as nationally. Our lives have changed and are changing and many of us have lost loved ones due directly to this BUT some still say it's overblown as a problem. This proves to me society really does have big issues when we have been taken out of our comfort zones. Nothing before has affected us like covid.

Anti-Vaxxers kids should be vaccinated anyway, even if the parents refuse. Anti-Vaxxers should be prevented from going abroad, or going into public spaces. Employers should be free to refuse them jobs. You're not denying them the right to refuse vaccination, just making it very clear to them that stupid choices have big consequences.

WE DONT HAVE THE MOST DEATHS. Todays figures clearly show that Wales has 165.1 deaths per 100,000 populations as against England's 187.9. This is based on positive deaths not where somebody suspects coronavirus was involved. It is the FIGURES USED DAILY BY THE PUBLIC HEALTH BODIES FOR WALES and ENGLAND. As can be seen your figures are at least 11 days out of date. They also use suspected deaths rather than someone has actually tested positive. The figures I use are more up to date and actually refer to where someone has tested positive not guesswork Total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic of people whose death certificate mentioned COVID-19 as one of the causes. The data are published weekly by the ONS, NRS and NISRA and there is a lag in reporting of at least 11 days because the data are based on death registrations. Wales 5,205 165.1 Scotland 6,916 126.6 Northern Ireland 2,026 107 England 105,773 187.9 The current vaccination rates show 1st Dose Wales 26.6% England 25.2% 2nd Dose 0.88% England 0.89%. Wales 2nd dose is rising fast and tomorrows figures will show it above England for 2nd doses. In terms of the current rate of the virus the current rates are Wales 87.7 compared to England to 133.4. Wales 2,764 87.7 Scotland 5,574 102 Northern Ireland 2,118 111.8 England 75,092 133.4 The figures since the beginning of the virus the Wales and England cases are neck and neck with the Welsh rate to be lower than England when tomorrows figures are released. After months of you posting this with the figures favouring England things have turned. Whilst Wales had many cases at the beginning of the outbreak the gap has been continually narrowing and Wales is about to overtake England. Wales 200,989 6,374.8 Scotland 195,839 3,584.6 Northern Ireland 110,440 5,832.1 England 3,588,001 6,374.5 Whatever your view of Drakeford and it clearly clouds your judgement the facts show Drakeford's policies are working well.

So you like that measure of death now do you? The measurement you accused the UK government of fiddling previously when they were actually coming in to line with the rest of the UK. They are figures are preferred by a tory government, are you a tory? This is not a morbid competition. We have 221 deaths per 100000 in Wales compared to 197 per 100000 in England based on the death certificate not "for any reason within 28 days of a positive test". Everywhere else is considerably lower. Drakeford has massively failed. I don't care what party he's a member of, I really don't, he's in charge of where I live. Where you live. He's failed me and he's failed you. This isn't a Johnson v Drakeford competition. Johnson is no better. It's about the best person for the job in Wales.

Here is part of an article about ONS death rates. It uses cases where there has been no positive test but the doctor suspected someone may have had covid at some time. The figures used by the governments are more accurate and up to date but even then days out of date. But the UK’s Office for National Statistics counts all deaths as Covid-19 where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, regardless of whether they were tested or if it was merely a suspected case of Covid-19

Give up please. Take a look at the excess deaths figures and the death certificate figures. They are almost identical. The death certificate is completed by a Dr mind not a secretary. Because unlike you majority of people actually support the Welsh Governments policies. They believe in fairness for all rather than wanting supermarkets to be allowed items other businesses cant. They support Drakeford's careful approach rather than Andrew RT Davies and his UK leaders reckless approach. They supported the stay local policy which actually started reducing the amount of the virus even though you dont. They support a leader who showed real leadership by living in a shed in the garden so he didnt pass on the virus to his elderly mother in law. Compare this with you taking your kids to your parents and putting them at risk. They realise that Drakeford's policies have led to Wales having less deaths and now lower rates of coronavirus. They want to back a party and leader that has the highest vaccination rate in the UK and done this without dragging very old people miles to centres.
