For all you Drakeford, Gething and WG slaters on here Wales has currently vaccinated more than any other UK nation.
Wales has overtaken England to lead the UK on the rate of the population getting a first dose of Covid vaccine.
More than 550,000 people in the top priority groups have been given their first doses of Covid vaccines in Wales.
It means 17.7% of the Welsh population has been vaccinated, compared to 17.5 % of the population in England, 14.4% in Scotland and 15.3% in Northern Ireland.
This has been done at the same time as having nearly half the current infection rate as England and without dragging over 80s miles for vaccinations.
Well done to all concerned.

Just a thought but maybe so should have a lot more of the populace of this country.
Why are you shifting the blame for the UK government's abysmal reaction to the virus onto the public? Look at how, say, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and even Taiwan have fared compared to us. I appreciate no country's circumstances are the same but on any level this has been abysmal. Are people so wedded to a political party that they're prepared to give them a pass?
That's not even mentioning the PPE procurement shenanigans or the Track and Trace debacle, both of which go beyond cronyism and corruption and are examples of demonstrable theft.
Still, vote for criminals and you'll get robbed.
If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--forever.

Firstly you've made an incorrect assumption that I'm a Tory voter , I'm not and never have been , secondly who's shifting blame , the leader of the country is and should be properly accountable for good and bad decisions and this lot has made many but that said it doesn't absolve any of the idiots (from all sides of the political divide) of their own selfish behaviour, actions which have also cost the lives of many . Maybe if the populace had treated this with seriousness it deserved we wouldn't be where we are now.

Track and Trace was an unmitigated disaster, and there's no doubt that a lot of contracts have been handed to the wrong people. It's mental that only now are they seriously considering either closing borders or quarantining new arrivals. Both should have been done a lot sooner.
PPE was an issue Globally, not just in the UK (perils of having most manufacturing done in the same place the virus started). Not that you'd know if you relied on UK media coverage. For all the early griping about ventilators and vaccines and how we should have joined the EU procurement, choosing to go it alone on both was clearly the best call.
Australia and New Zealand are isolated nations with a fraction of the International travel that the UK deals with and in no way comparable. Japan and Taiwan have both done well, but both have lots of experience of dealing with viruses coming out of China. Culturally the Japanese take hygiene & cleanliness to extremes anyway, which won't have hurt. Mask wearing on public transport is very common in Japan regardless of Pandemics.
One of the factors that often gets overlooked for me is the demographic one. Covid is well recognised as affecting those of a BAME (ie Black and South Asian) background at an as yet unexplained worse rate, and the UK has a larger population proportion of BAME than anywhere else in Europe as far as I can tell.
So yes, the Governments both Nationally and Devolved have done little to cover themselves in glory, but it's just not as simple as pinning every death on the door of #10 or even the Senedd, as much as people want it to be.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It isnt just New Zealand and Australia. Places like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand etc all have very low rates of the virus. All the places who closed borders early have been successful. Australia and New Zealand followed good practice in these places. We didnt and are sill not doing so. The Isle of Man has and has very few cases and that isnt some remote place hours from anywhere else.
The fault does fit with number 10. Look at the number of policies that have been introduced that led to increases.
Failure of Border Control. Encouraging people to have foreign travel and bringing the virus back using the senseless Air Borders policy. Reopening of hospitality far too soon allowing spread. Getting rid of the 2 metre rule and replacing it with a far less safe 1 metre plus rule. The encouraging of people to eat out with reductions. Not taking action when a senior government advises clearly broke coronavirus guidelines. Failure to restrict travel in and out of highly infected areas. Opening sports stadia and therefore having many mingling on the way in and out and even in stands.
These are just some of the idiotic policies which have failed us. As far as the BAME issue you would expect that to heavily affect places like Singapore and Malaysia which have large majority South Asian populations far more than here. It hasnt due to successful policies there which Johnson and Co failed to learn lessons from.

Another factor is the frightening percentages of all age groups falling into the obesity category ,thus figure taken from In the years 2019/20, there were 876,000 hospital admissions where obesity was a factor — an increase of 23% on the previous period.
There was also a 4% jump in hospital admissions that were directly attributable to obesity (11,117 in total).
The report, Statistics on Obesity, Physical Activity and Diet, England (2020), also found the majority of adults were overweight or obese. This figure stood at 67% for men and 60% for women — while 20% of Year 6 children were classed as obese.
All of which has had a direct impact on how severe the symptoms are for those who contracted the virus. Again a lack of self responsibility has to be considered

You make some good points, I would also like to know what percentage of the UK population are over 70, over 80, and over 90. Also what percentage of those age groups are packed into care or sheltered homes compared to other countries. As you imply in your post, I also think demographics are a big factor in all this.
At this stage, the only thing that we can be sure of is that the Vaccine would be better deployed in the arms of the unvaccinated, than it would be sitting on a shelf or in a freezer.

We are by far the obese obese nation in Europe .Its is pretty evident as to what our attitude i looking at the obscene queue for McD cardboard in a bun.Grown men sitting in a car for 30 mins to be served by a kid on poverty wage with something so rudimentary as minced "beef" seasoned so as to make it attractive to kids to throw sugar infested ketchup all over it.
Look at at kids going to junior school with stomachs like beer guts and man boobs, unable to run around for any length of time.
We have failed our kids and this might be the first generation where life expectancy is less than parents.

This is also where lockdown edges on being counterproductive.
Gyms are closed, we aren't allowed to drive for exercise and one of the only luxuries available is fast food.
I've put on a few pounds myself!

And Wales reward is to be given less vaccination than the rest of the UK to allow them to catch up. Considering that every country was meant to be given the same amount did other countries waste more when going ahead with te PFizer vaccine whilst WG went slower knowing the AZ vaccine was going to be easier to administer in surgeries and would have less wastage/ The question needs to be asked. Many on here criticised the slow rate of vaccination. Did Drakeford and co get it right.
Infection rates in last 24 hours based on % of positive tests.
Scotland 4.0% Wales 3.3% NI 3.06% England 1.67%
You’ve given up posting vaccination rates now that Wales are top of the pile. By the way, total people with a positive Covid test per 100,000 people in the last 7 days:
England 194.6 NI 160.7 Scotland 116.7 Wales 114.3

It’s a pity we couldn’t vaccinate against obesity, the biggest issue the NHS faces . Yet ,we are doing little to combat the fact we are so obese.
Yes. Parents who ram burgers, cakes, biscuits, coca cola etc down their children's necks are, in my opinion, guilty of child abuse. But that would be unenforcible. The answer is education, but how do you educate those who don't want to be educated.
