Conor Hourihane : Pro’s and Con’s 05:53 - Feb 21 with 2661 viewsKeithHaynes

For me what he adds to the attack we definitely lose in defence.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Tend to agree..he's a great footballer with the eye first time passes..but we carry him when we not in possession and others got do work of two..can be great if on top but tends to not do enough for me.can be out game for 89 minutes but pop up with goal..but needs do more for me

As I say Mr Angry,he is a luxury player not unlike Celina but we have to compensate and often we can't.

I admit to being taken in by his brilliance at dead balls but now he really isnt one to sign if we go up. He is languid or lazy, but potentially a match winning player.

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

It was interesting to see what Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel did to Hudson - Odoi on Saturday.

He brought him on as sub at halftime, and 30 mins later subbed him off. He later explained it wasn't what Hudson - Odoi did with the ball, but his body language and attitude when Chelsea didn't have the ball or when they lost possession

Tuchel also said that there was no problem if he makes mistakes, has a bad game, or misses chances, but there was no room in his team for what he was substituted for on Saturday.

Tuchel could have been talking about Hourihane if he was watching our game!! 😇

He will suit the PL more where there is more space and time.

There’s even less space and time in the Premier League. The players are better, faster and a good first touch is crucial as is quick thinking. But it’s a myth to think you’ll get more space or time. It’s still one of the best Leagues in the world isn’t it.

Hourihane has added another dimension to our team. Goals from midfield which is something he’s already remedied. A very good addition. If that’s there’s no disputing.

To call him lazy though is well wide of the mark. And plainly wrong. A different style of player certainly but not lazy. That sort of comment only shows the ignorance of the poster I suppose.

Wouldn't say lazy but certainly not in game enough whether its when we got the ball he don't show enough and when we out possession..but got the ability to score out nothing and great first time footballer but don't get in the game enough so we carry him a lot time

To be fair to the guy, what McCarthy has done to Wilson has been a master stroke dropping him from the team for two games. Takes balls though.

Yep, it takes a manager with balls, and someone who doesn't pander to the chairman or owners, and is only interested in the team. (And No, I'm not getting at Cooper!!)

Like Tuchel also said ...

"There is no need to think in old-fashioned terms that this is the worst thing that can ever happen to him, no."

"But now it's forgotten and he has to step up, learn from it, swallow it, and then there's no problem."

To be fair to the fella I don't think Cooper would ever pander to a chairman or be a yes man, he doesn't seem the type and good on him.

Would he have the balls to drop Andre Ayew though for example? Not sure.

Personally I cannot see Steve ever not selecting AA unless AA agrees.

Andre really should have been subbed in some games and it's why some of us doubt the man's apparent greatness

Yeah I do think there has been times where Ayew should have come off before Lowe for example but he's gone the other way.

I wouldn't be dropping Ayew now though, we need him back to his best, something seems a bit off'ish with me about him at the moment though. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he has signed a pre contract somewhere and his mind may be elsewhere.

Would imagine an out of contract decent nine is hard to come by to be honest.

Impossible for us in my opinion, at this time of the season anyway, they'd either want a 2/3yr contract or a short term kings ransom contract, not gonna happen.

This is what i think and agree with, i used to say AA was hiding in plain sight by running down lost causes to the keeper putting him out of play. CH has got to show more we cannot get out quick enough, and to watch runners pass you is not on.

Looks to me like a proper number nine, may be a bit soon this season, but he can get a few I’m sure.

Faster? I don't think they are faster.I think the big difference is often they are cleverer. They read the game really well these top quality players. They see what is going to happen and move to close it down.
That's why some of the most intelligent footballers are still playing years after others have quit, their football brain makes up for any loss in pace.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Wrong

In general terms, the Premier League players are quicker. From right back right thru to left wing. Of course it’s not the only attribute but it’s a key component. Undoubtedly.

I’d say pace was the one ( and only ) thing that stopped Lee Trundle from a shot at the Premier League. Not that he was slow. But certainly that extreme burst of pace over five ten or 15 yards wasn’t there was it.

We are a poorer team when Conor Hourihane plays.

If i was Cooper I’d bench him until the 70th minute when our more combative and physical midfield of Smith, Grimes and Fulton have knackered out the opposition. The right to play has to be fought for and won first.

Don't think teddy sheringham had much pace mate..its about speed of thought before actual speed which also helps..that's the difference between a good player and great player is speed of thought and movement off ball..
