We are in the 21st century , there's a bit (not a lot granted) left of the "old "Swansea to whet the appetite of those harking for the past grandiose days. The area around the Queens /Morgan's ( spit) for example shows how much the City's development has been (most of it bland but we are where we are so if the bridge is progress towards a bright new era for the town then I'll embrace it .

Thats the spirit, we cant all live in the past can we ...., ?

The Queens miss that place, can't remember the last time I was there, got to be over 18 months, pubs are a distant memory

There and the Brunswick are my favourite two pubs , sad when you think how many we used to have, that the list is just two

and the Post Office job.

The Irish are clever with manipulating history whether it's the freedom fighting Buoys or the wholescale State supported mass child sex assaults by the Catholic Church in Ireland over decades and the appalling treatment of girls finding themselves pregnant. As dark a history as you d find.

The bridge looks absolutely hideous in the picture in my opinion

However it would be only fair to see it in the flesh to give a totally fair and accurate personal view.

Tell you what, when the Irish invade Great Britain and starve 1 million of the poorest people to death, whilst another 1 million flee the country. Then - and only then - will it be a time to discuss what you call ‘dark history’.

You need to read.

They would have starved to death in a famine anyway. That is what happens when a country has a larger population than its land can support. Not sure what your post has to do with a bridge in Swansea.

Still spreading your poison on any board however irrelevant it is .

There was a Europe wide famine in 1848, but Ireland had most of it's crops as potato, when that failed starvation happened. They had no help from Britain

No help from anyone else either. That was what happened in the mid 1850s if you were poor and had no work you starved. Fortunately standards for everyone have increased since then thanks to the industrial revolution and later the social security system free NHS .

Meanwhile in the super rich USA if you can't afford exorbitant medical fees you suffer.

Again not sure what this has to do with a new bridge in Swansea but people insist on going off subject to pursue their political agenda.

Some will like, it some will loath it, some will be indifferent.

From the photos of it that I've seen, I think it's hideous, but I'll be driving under it tomorrow, so I may have a different opinion of it then then.

If Gaudi had done a bridge like that in Barcelona it would be world famous.

It was part of Britain at the time dumbo.

Westminster left their own people starve to death.
Its not about anyone else.

Westminster lost Ireland in that moment.
Genocide because they chose not to act.

Killy. You really should not live in a country with whom you have so many issues.

Irish people have blown ours to pieces for decades but we ve moved on.

Has the Irish State apologised for its state abuse of children

My wife is from Kinsale originally, I can't recall her ever telling me she's murdered anyone.

I'll have a check under her pillow tonight before going to sleep 👍😂

Because only the English ever did bad things obviously. The Irish aren't even proper Celts mun,
https://owlcation.com/stem/Iri

I have a family member by marriage, the family is from Cork and her brother married my aunty. When she was 16 she got pregnant. She was sent to a Nunnery. The story goes that she was regularly beaten and treated badly for being a fallen woman. Her story is a terrible one and she is one of hundreds of thousands over the decades. Roman Catholics can be a vicious bunch.

Reading is good but don't only read about what the English did, they were not the only ones.
Ever heard of the "mudcrawlers"?

Very recent Irish history has in parts some extremely disturbing stories, some of the victims
( in the true sense of the word) are still alive today. Its hard to believe that an organised religious faith could be so cruel towards its own followers let alone fellow human beings , I'm referring to "Tuam Babies", look it up

Irish people.

What was the nationality of McGuiness and his murderers .

As for the girls, any young girl subjected to Nuns was abused and made to feel God would punish her. Lives were ruined ,girls raped, assaulted as were boys. Irish have massive guilt and rightly so. British are angels in comparison.

It s why Irish girls had abortions here when they were banned outright in ROI. And not that long ago.

It's lying forlornly on the much maligned pedestrian /cycle track just before the Cenotaph.
A new one is planned to replace it with funds raised by the public and should have been installed last july but its all gone quiet on that particular topic . perhaps Covid has impacted on their plans.
