To some the NHS cannot be criticised, but you only have to look at the facts to see its falling down in area. With C19 putting a massive strain and backlog i fear the worst, why couldnt our Welsh Assembly employed a specialist to overhaul?

I believe the NHS nationally should be run by an independent body.

The amount of waste is unbelievable

I work for an orthopaedic company I’ll tell you something that is fact, we are now shipping around 90% of 2019 quantities for hip/ knee operations to England & Scotland, Wales is below 10%.

If you are waiting for any orthopaedic surgery you are in for a very long wait in Wales.

It’s disgusting.

If the population of England and Scotland is 20 times bigger than Wales, shouldn't they have 95% and we have 5% ?

I agree, how do these big private medicals do it in other countries or states? mix and match best practise and headhunt on big money? Give that 20 yrs and see what happens, couldnt be any worse.

Hence why I said the quantities we were shipping in 2019.

90% the amount we were shipping to England & Scotland

Less than 10% of what we were shipping in Wales in 2019.

Joking body parts? Ask someone who has an operation which changed their life for the better if that’s what they think.

I cannot give you the exact % but pre COVID (hence why I mention 2019) Wales had the longest waiting times for elective surgery, they have barely started up again whilst England are up to around 90% of this type of surgery.

I put it down to poor management by Welsh labour others will no doubt put it down to other reasons.

Just seen it somewhere that Wales spends £64 more per person on health than England, not sure how up to date that figure is and that Wales is way behind for hip op's compared to England but ahead of England for heart bypasses and kidney transplants.

Lest we forget that Drakeford allowed business such as pubs and gyms to open with no guidance whatsoever. None at all. You may disagree with Johnson dropping the 2m distance, as do I, but effectively in Wales pubs and gyms could open initially in exactly the same way they had closed in March because there was no guidance to state otherwise.

Whitty said in a press conference he supported the way schools had opened in England. I think it is too risky but Whitty would not outright lie even if he disagreed. In fact he basically accused the press of lying in their reports.

Prof Vallance told the Covid committee in Westminster that the roadmap was in line with SAGE recommendations. He didn't avoid the question or give a non answer, that is what he said. Again he wouldn't outright lie.

I'm not turning this into the usual Drakeford / covid thread. You support him based on killing people and business I'm calling him out for being an absolute disaster.

We need a full independent inquiry in to this debacle in Wales, not hidden behind any future Westminster inquiry.

Hopefully a new administration in May will push this through.

Inquiry is needed otherwise you dont learn for next time.

The Wales inquiry should be started straight after the UK inquiry has concluded.
Johnson will never allow that.

Those are things showing where Wales is failing though, areas that are devolved. Comapring them to England is a wy of demonstrating how badly the Welsh Labour government has done.
Given the record surely even the strongest Labour supporter can see a need for change, I'd rather give Plaid a chance than vote Labour.

Someone made a link between Tory and posh, well Drakeford doesn't look posh but Gething? He's all image and little substance, he's like a second rate Tony Blair, he looks the part. Blair had the patter to go with it though, Gething is lacking personality.

If anyone remembers, or is bothered, I sent Rhun Ap Iorwerth an email after he said he'd engage with me on independence, I sent him this,

Wales voted to leave the EU, for democracies sake I would hope we'd have another referendum before applying to join?

Assuming we choose to apply to the EU, how long would it take? We'd need to meet the Copenhagen criteria and even then, we could be vetoed by other countries not wishing to encourage separatists.

If we left the Union, then joined the EU would we have hard borders with England? I think that would be extremely damaging. Business is already complaining about the paperwork inside the UK, imagine if we had to do that twice, once to enter England then again to cross into Europe. Not to forget that we do a lot of our trade with England, would we see increasing prices, queues at the border.

An independent Wales needs to finance itself; this is a massive thing for me. I know there is a lot of tax put down as English because of where the head office is that is actually generated in Wales, do you know what our actual deficit is?

How much of the UK's debt would we carry with us?

Do you have an idea how much we'd need to borrow for things Wales desperately needs. Infrastructure in Wales is sadly lacking, I can drive to London from Swansea quicker than I can get to Wrexham.

What do you think our borrowing power would be, what would our rating be? My best guess is it'd be quite low, certainly not triple or even double A.

My honest belief is we would be stronger and better off staying in the UK but even then, the UK needs reforming too. Whichever way I turn I only see problems, most of them caused by politicians, I have come to have a healthy disregard for Tory and Labour, Welsh Labour too.

Thank you very much for engaging with me, I stand at what I see as a pivotal moment, I want to vote for people who will help all of Wales and not favour one part of it as I believe Labour has done. We need a viable alternative; can Plaid provide that?

I have a 12-year-old son, I want the Wales he grows up in to be a better place, if you can show me that means an independent Wales then so be it. Adam Price has yet to convince me.

This is his response,

Thanks for your email and sorry for the delay in responding. What’s good is that people are engaging with the independence debate. People will have many legitimate and important questions to ask, and that needs to happen openly and honestly.

On Europe, an independent Wales would be able to decide on its relationship with the EU, and that’s the important thing. That oculd be seeking membership of the EU, or some other kind of relationship. I’d have thorught it would be a no-brainer for Wlaes to want to be in the single market/customs union, but again that’s for the citizens of an independent Wales to decide.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting a hard physical border with England, but borders per se really don’t have to be a problem. I wanted to remain in the EU, and seamless borders was one of the attractions, but even within Europe there are plenty of borders with different regulations, which are just made to work.

Finance is clearly one of the main questions people wil lwant to ask, and opponents of independence will point to a £15bn defeicit and say “see? It can’t be done!” But:

that defecit itself is misleading, in that it includes notional spends on things an independent Wlaes just wouldn’t want to spend nearly as much on. We won’t need to fund aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines, that’s for certain, so you can probably wipe £1bn off the defecit lie that, and still have money for modest but well funded Welsh armed forces

the Wales Fiscal Analysis point out very clearly that the current state of Welsh finances does not deflect what the fiscal position of an independent Welsh state would be i.e. our defecit, and our fiscal condition is a product of being in the UK!

Wales is not small or poor. What makes Wales so uniquely unable to look after its own finances? I still haven’t heard anyone answer that question. From where I see it, we’re trapped in a relationship where we’re kept poor, and the system warns us that we’ll be even poorer if we leave. I just won’t settle for it. If we’re poor — let’s do something about it!!

And on borrowing, our problem currently is that we don’t borrow enough — and UK Government keeps it that way. There’s never been a better or cheaper time to borrow big for proper infrastructure improvement that could transform Wales. UK Government won’t allow us to. Why is that?

Sorry, I’m not answering every single one of your questions here... but I hope it helps. We’re having the conversation. We have to as a nation.

Can Plaid be an all-Wales Government? I wish I could explain to you how it feels from within the party. We want every inch of this country to be a part of this adventure, and for every inch of it, every community, to benefit. I just don’t think this is the best things can be, and I think we’d breathe a huge sigh of relief for our children when we make it work, difficult as it might be. A fresh start. A new, young, ambitious country. No shackles. Building new, healthy relations with England and the rest of the UK and beyond. It’s up to us.

Let’s keep talking.

I'm grateful that he answered but still, it leaves me less than convinced. He apologises for not answering all the questions which just leaves me asking, why didn't he answer? Is it because he doesn't know or maybe the answers don't make indy look good? Besides which, some of those answers are a bit vague, the kind of answer that one of us might post on here but not the answers I might expect from a politician who's supposed to know these things or be able to find out.

It won't be Plaid, not for me.

Biggest issue round here is horseshyte on the roads . We've more hores per sq mile than anywhere -I read that.

Good you are are asking questions.

How would you feel about Wales joining a so-called union with a debt of £1 Trillion to £4.8 Trillion ?
That would be mad, right ?
We could not afford it,right ?

Well i have news for you mate ..... read below and weep .... Cymru cannot afford not to be Indy.

UK National Debt Surpassed £1 Trillion

Mainstream media headlines today are focused on Britain's record national debt, which just surpassed £1 trillion, a figure that can only exponentially increase unless the entire mechanism of Government finance is overhauled. The truth however is much worse, factoring in all liabilities including state and public sector pensions, the real national debt is closer to £4.8 trillion, some £78,000 for every person in the UK.
