Obvious.

Cooper made it clear from the offset he didn’t want him.

We'll never know if he could have made an impact, I'm pretty certain he wouldn't have done any worse than Dhanda for example.

As I said, he made it clear at the time he wasn't fussed on the signing, he actually couldn't have made it look any clearer if he tried.

I'll keep on saying it, no excuses whatsoever about a lack of numbers in squad.

No excuse about lack of numbers, but you don’t play a loan player if you don’t think he’s good enough.

We’ve got no idea if he’d have been any better or worse than Dhanda or anyone else. We didn’t see him train every day. He hasn’t got a glittering resume.

I quite agree with you that Cooper didn’t want him. If he saw anything when Ariolla was here to change his mind and then didn’t act on it, he’s out of order. If not, then why play him?

Haven’t seen many people complain about numbers, quality maybe, but not numbers. One vastly more important than the other it must be said.

He wasn’t deemed good enough, in a bad phase of the season (his natural off-season) and he was injured. Not sure what the fuss is about. Another poorly thought out signing.

I could understand a discussion around why he was signed, but him going back seems a non issue. I forgot he was here.

Well Cooper saw him in training everyday. Dhanda isn't a regular either, so that's not a one or the other type arrangement. Plus what impact did we need!? Of the 7 matches Arriola was here for where he hasn't been injured and seemingly available for selection we won 5 and lost 2.

The 2 losses were to Huddersfield where let's face it he'd have made no difference whatsoever and Bristol City which in the first half we arguably gave our best attacking performance of the season. He came off the bench in that game and missed a sitter.

I have no idea why people are moaning about this. Cooper seems completely justified in his non selection of him to me. The record above speaks for itself.

We played against Bristol City U23s and they kept us out first half without having a touch of the ball.

Huddersfield we would never know as the players on there were all out on their feet. It has been a tough schedule and the squad hasn't been utilised. We have very good players hence our position in league, but they have been running on empty for weeks, two losses in a row and with some seriously fortunate wins which masked the problems. It has been awfully managed.

Break has come at the right time, fully expect us to be back at it Friday, but one or two injuries we have had it.

No we don't see training you're right, Hourihane for example must be outstanding through the week.

He also didn't play Whittaker when it was clear as day Lowe was shot to bits, was pretty much forced to against Cardiff and he did more in that 90 minutes than Jamal has since the Watford game.

Agree with all of that. I’m not saying Cooper is infallible, I certainly don’t agree with the continued selection of Hourihane.

None of that makes Ariolla any good though. We just don’t know. I’m happy to give Cooper the benefit of the doubt on this one, as there is no evidence to the contrary.

What sort of Bristol City team we played isn't relevant. The first half performance on that day against those 11 players wouldn't have been improved by playing Arriola instead of someone (don't know who you'd have dropped for him). The second half as i say he came off the bench and missed a sitter at 1-2.

So with all that mind that you mention (which i don't neccessarily agree with) would starting Arriola really have changed anything? All indications suggest no, absolutely not.

'awfully managed' - how are still 3rd in the league then? Surely awful management would have much lower down the division. Fully fit raring to go squads lose games too. Come on now i know people don't like to concede things and be humble these days but there's no need to double down to the point over compensating to the point of gross overreaction.

Why do you say that we've had it if we have one or two injuries? I thought we had no cause to moan about the quality in the squad to replace the injured players?

Of course it's relevant, they were absolutely awful and decimated by injuries. Kasey Palmer who hardly got a kick for us won them the game.

My point has always been, we have a very good squad of players, and they haven't been managed properly. We have been running on empty for weeks, we have scraped results, but that is to be expected with the players we boast at this level. Manning, Whittaker, Ariolla even Palmer should have played more than they have to keep the players fresher. He has moaned about not having a 9? Who brought him in? Cooper gets the credit for the likes of Guehi, what happened with Vik? He says we haven't had a 9 all season?

That squad you talk about is a very good squad, but we have lost the likes of Palmer as he wasn't given game time, Ariolla the same despite the injury, Vik also recalled. The players have been here, they just haven't been used.

Never had any faith in them on the football front did I? Anyone who thought Bob Bradley was a good idea probably should stay clear when making footballing decisions.

As owners however, we could be doing a lot worse. They seem to be running us at as much of an even keel as possible - that’s all we can ask for at this stage. If that means we have to put up with a senseless signing here or there then that’s what’s going to happen.

I’d rather that than then spending money the club can’t afford knowing they will be charging them for the pleasure.

Cooper's way will be found as correct or incorrect in the last 9 matches.

The theory is that rotating frequently assists the team to fullfill the full season with freshness and lack of injuries. Rooney for example has rotated his Derby team. (not that they are doing well) .

Poccetino was always criticised for not rotating and end of season collapses.

If Cooper is correct and players like Arriola, Freeman, Whittaker and Manning were not required for rotation purposes , his team will return of Friday fresh and envigorated for the last 9 game run in. The seasom is 46 league games. I expect Swansea to push Watford all the way and go to Vicarage Road for the £120m meal ticket.

If Swansea fall of the pace with flat listless displays and hang on for the play offs the crtics will be vindicated. They will be one final heave for the PL in the upto 3 game play offs. I am in no doubt Arriola could have made a useful contribution as a squad player. 35 caps for US proves this.

Again, whether they were awful or not, having Arriola on the pitch wouldn't have automatically made Bidwell score an open goal or one of the numerous shots that hit the post go in or make the ref give us justified penalties. We created chance after chance. You can't look back at that half and think Arriola could have done any better than our starting 11. When he did come on he scuffed a golden chance to draw level.

So yes we've scraped wins. That means fine margins. That means playing lesser quality players than the ones that did would have more than likely resulted in a different outcome and probably more losses / draws. That means we wouldn't be in third place now and in a position still to be challenging for promotion going into the run in. Its easy to blame everything on a lack of rotation (overplayed myth in my eyes) but there needs to be an awareness of the potential downside of this policy too.

Let's concentrate on Arriola alone, against whom or instead what player would you have played him then? Even with hindsight and knowing we (narrowly in some cases) won 5 of the games that he was fit and available for, would you have changed the team!? Surely not.

Same for the 2 losses - 1 he'd have made no difference to a terrible team performance&the other the team played really well but the ball wouldn't go in, a game in which he missed a sitter himself.

Cooper has moaned about not having an out and out striker yes. Arriola isn't that so not sure how that's relevant. I assume the Americans brought him in? No idea who brought Viktor in or who thought it would be good idea.

Palmer is a different topic but he was with us when we were at our very best, so obviously very difficult for him to get into the team. His parent club also need him (you've alluded to their injury problems yourself) & they've had management changes, plus there was always the danger he'd get recalled. To say its because he wasn't being played is misguided. He was only with us 2 and a half months and he actually made 12 appearances for us, was only left out of the squad once during his spell here. Of the 6 times he was an unused sub for us, we won 5 and drew 1. So again, the facts do not back up the narrative that he didn't play enough.

Would you want Gyorkeres to have played more!? I certainly wouldn't have.

Cooper's way has got us to a point where we are in the running with 9 games to go. We know that for a fact.

It is less likely that had he played the likes of Freeman and Arriola (who presumably people would have wanted to replace Roberts / Hourihane / Dhanda?) who provided goals and assists in several very closely fought matches, we'd have won those games and we'd be a lot lower in the league.

Look above, precisely where would Arriola have made himself a useful squad member? In what games? The vast majority of his international caps (as you are aware) were against teams of league 2 standard or lower. So that's no indicator. If he was that good he wouldn't still be playing for one of the MLSs worst teams at his age.

The season is 46 games long not 37. Connor Roberts, Ayew, and Guehi Swansea s best players need to be on the very best form for the last 9 games.

A listless Ayew of £70,000 a week will be of no use. He could easily have been substituted in countless a games. It is a bit silly saying Connor Roberts is a physical freak that does not need rest, He looked off his best in the internationals. Guehi has already had a fatigue related lay off. The weaker UK teams always struggle against the likes of Costa Rica and Panama.

The prizes are handed out in May. Lets see if the performances are energetic and sharp. If they continue to be listless questions will have to be asked as to how the manager interacts with the sports science team and recruitment team.

Yes of course it is, hence the requirement to pick up as many points throughout the whole season which in some games so far we wouldn't have got by not playing such players.

In what games would you have taken Ayew off in? The ones where we were winning narrowly in which he used his nous to see the games out by holding the ball up and winning us free kicks up the pitch? Or the ones where we were losing and needed goals?

No doubt Roberts will or has needed a break at some point. If we had a capable back up maybe he would have. All the central defenders have been rotated. Every team gets injuries, even fatigue related ones in a normal uncondensed season.

I wasn't even talking about Panama or Costa Rica. That's the very top end of their competition. Hes got lots of caps against Trinidad, Curaçao, St Vincent etc.

Yes we'll see but its a fact we're in with a chance going into the final stretch due to Cooper's methods so far.
