| Ariolla Leaves on 18:23 - Mar 31 by Joe_bradshaw | Arriola is a DC player who needed training during the MLS close season to continue his recuperation from a serious injury. He played a part in their last game of last season and needed training whilst his team mates were off season. MLS season starts again soon and it is no surprise that he’s going back to join his team mates for their pre season. Cooper wasn’t interested and I don’t particularly blame him. |
He also played 70 mins in a US game, scoring twice I think.... he was given minutes against City and 10 v Bristol City. * Nobody can say Cooper give him a chance. * Nobody could argue his fitness wasn't up to scratch - what little we saw there were no obvious issues (and you compare this to Morris who did look knackered after 20 mins once - AND EVEN WORSE.... HOURIHANE who can't even break out of a jog and can't even run properly) * Nobody should be making any comments on whether anyone would be "interested" or not in him. Cooper shunned him like a petty schoolmaster because he's a one trick pony who accidentally happened upon a formation and is stuck in a rut with no idea in how to coach or build attacks.

| Ariolla Leaves on 18:29 - Mar 31 by londonlisa2001 | There is a happy medium though. Backing a manager (which is what was said) is a long way from complete control. And the issue with this particular compromise is that other factors appear to be playing a part. Bradley. These two loans. The first was a fundamental part of the spiral that led us to relegation. The second may be a fundamental part of why we don’t go up, let’s hope not. But it would feel an awful lot more likely if we had an experienced number 9 and 10 in our ranks at the moment. Just have to hope that what we have stays fit and can remain sufficiently energetic to see out the last 9 games. |
Bradley led us to relegation? Jesus. Now these 2 loans may scupper our promotion hopes? Talk about chucking muck everywhere like some frantic lunatic. In January, the Board spent big on Hourihane and sanctioned a £700k deal for Whittaker. Before the season started the Board sanctioned deals for two number 9's - Lowe and Gyokeres. And don't give me the old "Lowe isn't a 9" - Cooper brought him in for that very position. He also couldn't do anything with Gyokeres - and let's face it, he would have been quite handy the last month or so. The Board have backed him within budget. Get over yourself.

| Ariolla Leaves on 19:58 - Mar 31 by Chief | Is there any evidence that our current owners specifically want to play a style of football thats at odds with Cooper's style then? Do we know if they actually have a preferred style? Bony played in our team when we played beautiful football and he was an out an out striker. Cooper may not neccessarily be referring to a Duncan Ferguson style lump when he speaks out about not having an out and out striker. Potentially very decent players - what's that based on then? Morris did look decent, he was given playing time. As for Arriola it was said he wasn't up to speed when he came following his recovery from a serious injury. With that in mind I'm glad Cooper ignored Arriola. It's not like we actually needed him, the incumbent of the right wing back position is hardly having a bad season. And in some games Roberts directly contributed to us gaining points that frankly very likely wouldn't have picked up if Arriola had been playing instead. |
Right wing back for Arriola??? Hahaha

| Ariolla Leaves on 21:07 - Mar 31 by londonlisa2001 | I’m not certain after watching us this season that we have a particular style of play other than try to score more than the other team. The best way to improve our following in the US is to be in the premier league where it’s shown on tv there. Cooper didn’t ignore Morris. He played quite a bit. And looked meh. Let’s be honest. We saw more in young Whittaker in one game than we did in Morris. Arriola we didn’t see enough of but the little we did see was not great was it. I’d argue by the way, that when we actually did have a very defined passing and possession based game under Rodgers, that we signed a fairly bog standard no 9 in Graham and it worked out very well. It’s the position where just someone who can hold up the ball and score goals works. Can always sell if we get promoted if necessary. |
Morris did more in the first half v Man City in terms of touch, movement and passing than any of our lot have since January. This is getting embarrassing Lisa.

| Ariolla Leaves on 21:34 - Mar 31 by londonlisa2001 | I’d love to know mind what type of football can be achieved with a midfield of Grimes, Fulton and Smith. Don’t get me wrong - all put in a huge shift and have their moments, but creative it is not. Neither is a back line of Bennett, Cabango, Guehi (he’s the most creative), Naughton with Bidwell and Roberts outside. We have a reasonable squad pushing for promotion to the top division. The flair we had when we last did it is on a completely different level. But of course, we didn’t sell anything that moved back then. |
Fulton and Matty were influential in one of the best goals we've seen ever down the Liberty. In the 3-0 game v QPR. They are more than capable of playing proper one touch, pass and move football. And remember, Cooper bombed out Celina. Not robotic enough for him. And hey, he replaced Celina with Smith so there's your answer.

| Ariolla Leaves on 23:25 - Mar 31 by 9MilesHigh | What absolute gibberish. American players pick up injuries because it's less intense than than the long ball championship tripe. And why should our owners not look to tap into the United States as a market. Their football is getting better and better every season and it's a matter of time before that league, with some tweaks, takes on real international appeal. And reading forums as I did before Arriola got here was the consensus felt Arriola to be the more technically gifted to Morris - who is pretty much universally thought of as a big miss to us. I said all along, if Cooper keeps on getting results he will get away with not playing Morris and Arriola but as soon as the results stop he'll have to face their music - and rightly so. The January transfer window, which was lauded as "brilliant" really was just hopeless. Hourihane has completely derailed us almost single handedly and the 2 US boys that could have provided a real attacking spark were looked down Coopers nose at. The smug, arrogant, egotistical idiot he is. Do you know in the last fans forum he spent the entire time watching a game on his laptop?? Yeah, he did answer questions when asked, but come on, as if he couldn't record the game to watch after and devote his precious time purely to the bloody fans. Apparently as other people were speaking you could hear Cooper going oo-errr to every missed chance. It was pointed out to me by someone there who was getting very pissed off with him. COOPER OUT |
Out with the manager that led us to the play offs last season and to third this season with 9 games left. A stance brought about by........ An injured loan player returning to their parent club.

He binned off two of them for not being dogged enough. Gallagher looked very average for us compared to how he played at Charlton before and West Brom since. Always off balance and out of breath, worked too hard for his own good. I don't buy the argument that the way we play isn't down to Cooper's methods or intentions, that he's simply been dealt a poor hand, poor dab. His fingerprints are all over our performances for good or ill (depending on your perspective). |

Where are there people making excuses for lack of squad? I think people have questioned the strength in depth of the squad...but we have a better bench now than previously The issue is that at every opportunity those who have a dislike for Cooper are using circumstances to rubbish him and make noises about getting rid of him. I am by no means a happy clapper, but for me the club I support is now spending time at the right end of the table....we are mostly getting results, sometimes to with nice football. As i have said elsewhere sometimes we need to take things in context...13 years under Martinez the club was in a totally different place to that of today...the mood around the club was up beat, owned by fans, back in the 2nd tier after many years of struggle, finacially sound and on the up. We were playing with some flair as a result of the injection of some Spaniards, and a core of players some of whom had begun their careers at PL clubs, Britton, Monk, Tate, Gower before joining our journey from the lower leagues and experiencing that day against Hull...there was a band of brothers....and also Martinez did much to bring the club together....this could be seen when training took palce at LLandarcy and the players eat together in the conservastory in the GLamorgan, the development players would be there too. IT was also a unique time as what other clubs includiong that first season in the PL would see fans sharing the shower with players who they would watch at the weekend? That togetherness which aided in our ability to perform as a team... beagn to dissapear under Laudrup...where cliques were allowed to form....the rest is history. Since Laudrups departure to whom I am thankful for that Wembly victory ,including th e run up to it and for the european adventure that followed...the club began a downward spiral, the disasterous fulltime appointment of Monk, the handling of the sale and the crazy changes in manager that followed relegation and financial pressures. Many of us feared that a repeat of the post Toshack era was about to follow. but thankfully we have managed to avoid further relegation and in fact have been in the mix for promotion the last two seasons. We have ahd few "beatings" we have lost only 21% of our games and to date won 54% in 2008 we ended up with 34% of games won, and 21% lost, Cooper has already managed more wins with 9 games left ( 4 games to date) than Martinez did with the squad he had available. I am not saying Cooper is better than Martinez they are different and who knows what cOoper could have got out of tht squad and vice versa...BUT in the eyes of many we are succesful. YEs we may not be as full of flair as then but also nostalgia is a funny thing...we have forgotten where we scrapped a lot of last minute draws but rememebr the odd standout games when we swept teams away scoring 3 goals and missing more.... It may not ever be possible to repeat those "glory days" in the same fashion it was all about all the stars being aligned....it happens at all clubs, Man U never the same after the class of 92, Liverpool since the glory days of the 80s, Also not being considered is the issue surrounding the histroical social media comments form Arriola...I suspect this has had some slant on things given the high profile rasciscm has in the sport currently....but no its all down to Cooper

And he was falling over himself with excitement over signing Morris. It’s not as if he knew nothing about either of them before they turned up. Appreciate he doesn’t have complete control over incoming transfers, but he should have the power to veto them. If our owners want to bring a player he doesn’t rate in, I’d rather he stand up to them. What I think happened here, is we were late in the window, we’d signed Morris and Hourihane, Cullen wasn’t injured and we weren’t going to sign anyone else. Didn’t seem like there was a lot to lose.

What about this quote from Cooper then Manager Steve Cooper insists he’s delighted by the 26-year old’s attitude and progress on the training ground, and has suggested a place in his starting XI might not be too far away. “You hope that every player has the mindset that they’re not here to make up the numbers,” Cooper said. “It’s slightly different with Paul because he’s come straight from an off-season. “He had a week or so with the national team, but it’s not often that you have only a few weeks training and then start starting games in your domestic campaign. “So, like we were doing with Jordan [Morris]. We have a separate programme going on to try and get him up to speed. It’s probably not the ideal thing at this time of the season, but that’s where we’re at. “But we know he’s a really good player. He’s a good guy and as soon as we think he’s available to start games and he trains well enough and is having an impact then maybe there will be some starts in the future.”

We'll never know if he could have made an impact, I'm pretty certain he wouldn't have done any worse than Dhanda for example. As I said, he made it clear at the time he wasn't fussed on the signing, he actually couldn't have made it look any clearer if he tried. I'll keep on saying it, no excuses whatsoever about a lack of numbers in squad.

Well Cooper saw him in training everyday. Dhanda isn't a regular either, so that's not a one or the other type arrangement. Plus what impact did we need!? Of the 7 matches Arriola was here for where he hasn't been injured and seemingly available for selection we won 5 and lost 2. The 2 losses were to Huddersfield where let's face it he'd have made no difference whatsoever and Bristol City which in the first half we arguably gave our best attacking performance of the season. He came off the bench in that game and missed a sitter. I have no idea why people are moaning about this. Cooper seems completely justified in his non selection of him to me. The record above speaks for itself.
