Wales v Turkey Euros Matchday Thread 18:47 - Jun 13 with 7737 viewsNotLoyal

The game everyone wants Wales to win who is either from Wales or supports Wales, except those who don’t want Wales to win, which is the vast majority of the people in the ground on Wednesday. This is the first time Turkey have played Wales in the euros, or since 1998 whichever comes first which is currently 1997 as the day of the game isn’t here yet. The real odd thing is that last year was 2020, but the year got cancelled, so even though it’s 2021 now it’s actually 2020. This should mean most people will know the result and bet their houses on it accordingly.

Wales v Turkey
Weds 16th June 2021
Olympic Stadium, Baku
Azerbaijan
Kick off 5pm

Match Officials to be appointed.

Turkey v Wales Head to Head
Wales have won three of the six meetings between the two sides, although the last victory was a 1-0 win in Ankara in 1981. The most recent fixture took place in qualifying for the 1998 World Cup, a thrilling encounter that ended 6-4 in favour of the Turks.

Turkey made their European Championship finals debut in 1996, and this will be their fifth Euro in total. The Turks qualified for Euro 2020 by finishing second in Group H behind France. They picked up four of their 23 points from the current World Champions, winning 2-0 at home and drawing 1-1 in Paris. Şenol Güneş's side has a fierce defensive record, having conceded just three goals in the entire qualifying campaign and only once in their last six games.

Key Player: Hakan Calhanoglu
Hakan Calhanoglu is a German-born midfielder of Turkish ancestry (just like Mesut Ozil) except Calhanoglu has expressed his commitment to the Turkey. Calhanoglu currently plies his trade in Serie A with AC Milan, where his dangerous knuckleball free-kick has seen him compared with Cristiano Ronaldo.

Turkey facts
Yeah, you knew it was coming. The cranberry sauce of the euros, the cold meat in the sandwich, piccalilli, branston and salad. These are Turkey facts, so let’s gobble them all up here.

1. Like the football team, Turkeys change colours.
2. They also have better eyesight than humans
3. Only male Turkeys gobble, which doesn’t resonate that well with me.
4. Americans eat 46 million Turkeys every November
5. This is mental, male Turkeys droppings are shaped like the letter J.

It’s also odd to note that the city of Istanbul in in two continents. Yes, the country of Turkey where Santa Claus lives has two sides to its culture. Isn’t that wonderful. However, visitors please not that the cost of kebabs are the same on both sides of town, so don’t fret.

A kebab yesterday

More Turk like revelations coming soon.

We can beat anyone on our day. 2 stupid yellow cards at the end. We had the free kick, just walk away.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

I felt that the penalty miss knocked the stuffing out of us and perked up Turkey, but Bale's intelligence and ability to create the chance for Roberts was brilliant.

Especially with VAR and refs. How far do they carry through. It was that which did us no favours in 2016 in the end with Ramsey.

A mid table championship side would do well to keep him.

Shouldn't be playing there, got to much intelligence and ability to be playing for them, deserves so much better.

Our big players stepped up massively and took the game to the Turks in a big big way. The Turks cowered within the first few minutes. The Bale factor is immense - both to us and against the oppo.

Bale is becoming a legendary all-round player. Captain, leader, talisman and immensely clever in the way he floats deep and creates some sublime stuff. The Bale-Rambo combo would walk into most top World class teams. At times, Bale was Pirlo.

Some of the posts here are truly embarrassing. Some posters are doomed to fail, and most especially doomed to fail in their football analysis, almost always.

It's the same when they post about the Swans.

Bonus ball - we don't get to endure the usual suspects who only post when we're losing.

Bale and Ramsey owed the team a performance and despite being much improved both b,ew hot and cold.
Bale has lost yards of pace too.
First goal was excellent but should have been the 4th.
I wonder if Ronaldo PMed Bale on how to take a free kick.
Well done Connor.

Ramsey's missed opportunities apart was excellent, great game from him, Mepham, Rodon, Morrell, Allen and Moore were superb, they all were in fact, Bales brilliance twice with the 2nd moment resulting in a fabulous goal for Roberts.

I can’t pick a man of the match out of that lot. Just rewatching the second half - talk about digging in!

Shout to Dan James too.

Dan was awesome and deserved more, run his legs into the ground, our out ball throughout the game, before Bale flashed that shot over the bar, I was crying out for him to pass it to Dan, he'd have been in on goal and he doesn't usually miss those chances.

I think that Penalty goes in and we win well, 3 maybe 4 nil.

Connor been knackered since just after Christmas, he wasn't his usual self tonight, but still played well enough and got in that position to score.

Commentator on Itlay's game, just said Turkish player put his there and Bales leg found it, what a pathetic piece of work he is, his hero Harry Kane has done that in virtually every penalty he's won. bitter t@@t.

Well to my eyes we’ve been a hell of a lot better than any of the four in England’s group. If they played like this against Turkey, creating that much, they’d all be creaming themselves. Dwight would be off his tits.

Can we keep it up? I think the psychology will be a big issue now. If we drop back and try and hold on, we will lose.

'If we drop back......we will lose'. Ffs.

Such a typical post with the loser mentality.

We won it in the first few minutes with our high energy marauding intent. A massive play by our bold management team and players.

Some posters need to take a more holistic approach and maybe give our management team and players more credit. A familiar story with some of the usual unthinking suspects.

Bale & Co grasped the nettle from the off(set). Turks were scrambling thereafter.

It's not rocket science.

Well he was well out of order, with that comment it was very poor and I stick by my comment. He played for an Arsenal team that bought penalties for fun and some of his beloved England butties.

That's another subject and in fairness that could be said of many Teams.
