Many restrictions are back. Nightclubs to close. Everything else to close at midnight. No big gatherings or festivals. No BBQs with the neighbours etc

The big opening back up lasted about 3 weeks.I wonder if at some stage Pile em up Johnson will have to do the same?

As the numbers of those vaccinated rise then the percentages of hospitalisations and deaths will get lower. That;s why the vaccination is so important.

Why can't you understand that? It's like taking a particularly bad flu and turning it into a sniffle, do you get it yet?

If I'd caught covid before getting jabbed my chances were really fairly poor whereas having had both doses my chances will be much better, it's that simple.

Talking about problems caused by the vaccine think on this, I was given pain killers that made me ill in other ways, I was given blood pressure drugs that damaged my liver and nearly made me severely ill. My wife is on anti convulsants and while they stop her fits now, they giver her terrible migraines, cause insomnia and memory loss but she puts up with it because it's beter than regular siezures. All medicines carry risks.

Cat, I hope you are correct, but the governments own figures on the Delta strain say that you are not.
Remember those numbers?
Non Vaccinated cases = 53,822 Hospitalised = 1.5% Mortality = 0.08%
Single Vaccine cases = 19957 Hospitalised = 1.4% Mortality = 0.1% very little difference.
Double Vaccine cases = 7,235 Hospitalised = 2.6% Mortality = 0.69%

Note that the government have not updated those numbers that I can find, they are are now only talking overall numbers.
I wonder why?

Except for the facts ….

Its also all about Parliament closing for the summer and them wanting to fly away on their holihobs, slap backing each other on a "good job" they've done.

You have missed the point entirely. The rise in cases will prompt other countries to look at us and think, They have such high numbers there and therefore a high risk country, we shouldn't allow Brits entry into our country because of that risk

We have more new cases than anywhere in Europe by far, although Spain is seeing a huge rise - probably tourists.Whether we vaccinate or not is irrelevant to them, they will just look at the case numbers and risk.It does appear that, although the vaccine mitigates the severity of the illness, which is of course excellent it's not preventing transmission.

Other countries will also be loking at the death rates, the hospitalisation rates of those who are vaccinated and making decisions based on those too. If people are getting ill but only suffering mild symptoms, flu like symptoms then they may not close borders depending on the levels of the variant in their countries, how mnay people in their countries are vaccinated and of course, how their economy is doing. These decisions aren't kust medical, governments look at the economy too and worry about money whether that is right or wrong.
Lok at Bojo, his going ahead with the 19th and "Freedom day" is probably as much about money as anything, he wants businesses up and running for the summer holidays, he wants the new football season to carry on as normal, he wants an end to lockdown so the economy can pick up and, as Max says, he probably wants to go on one of his freebie holidays too!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

No, the death rates and hospitalisations here will be irrelevant, they won't want ppl coming from a high risk country, vaccinated or not, because they can see that the vaccine isn't preventing transmission.

Death rates and hospitalisations won't be irrelevant because they'll want to know how well the vaccines are working. It's because of vaccine success that Bojo feels he can open England up, other countries will be watching to see how it goes, we'll know very soon. These other countries are behind the Uk in their rates, as they catch up, if it shows up as more safe to open up tourism again, well don't underestimate the power of money. It rules everything.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

He's doing it on the 19th because there is a 6 week fire break while the schools are off. Will it be enough, who knows. We have to open up sooner or later, probably the right time in my opinion.

There’s no right answer. 19th has an advantage of schools off and
hopefully good weather. Delaying would help with 2nd doses for younger people.

Already some backtracking, rightly on masks, and some speculation of some restrictions returning in autumn

Yeah schools are out but pubs, clubs and restaurants will be open, travel agents have already reported a massive rise in bookings,

Bojo wants the economy up and running.

I would rather not say backtracking as it appears to be point scoring. Lets just say the evidence has been looked at again and there has been a change of decision.

Just like this one was.

True. It is going to be interesting over the next couple of weeks with so many switching off their covid app and many more deleting it. It's bound to have an effect on the number isolating.

Do you or anybody else have any idea how many of the Track & Trace isolators actually were infected?

The app was only any good if everybody had it. My neigbour tested positive, no app, what was the point?

They may be behind the Uk in vaccinating, but they are getting less cases than we are. They will want to keep it that way too

Who are, which country? Why are they allowing travel agents to sell the holidays? Spain for example, they are getting over 14000 new cases per day whereas the Uk reported just over 31000 for the last 7 days.

Do the math, 7 X 14,760

The UK is averaging 31,000 new cases per day, not per week.

I do apolgise, my mistake, I misread. Should have put my glasses on. Even so, travel agents have had a surge in bookings and 27 other countries are green listed. People will be travelling abroad. I'm saying it will happen when I pretty much think it shouldn't be too.

I had another look and yes, it was a 31k average for the last 7 days not for the whole 7 days. When you're wrong, you're wrong. Not the first time, won't be the last!

We’ve gone up to Jockland for a week or so, defo don’t fancy going abroad or flying at the moment. A few years ago whilst we were on holiday in Spain, our youngest was taken very seriously ill and spent 12 days in a Spanish hospital recovering from ecoli157 from food poisoning, it’s not something I would want to experience again. Holidaying in the UK isn’t cheap!
