Despite a final offer with add ons of nearly three million pounds the club rejected every bid. Unfortunately for many swans fans this meant Tariqe Fosu of Brentford could not complete his deal to come on loan to west Wales. Pretty much all was agreed apart from a loan fee. 0 If you want to remove this post from the board index, just click the hide post icon below. | Matt Grimes stays means Tariqe Fosu doesn’t join Swansea City on 13:58 - Sep 1 with 718 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Matt and his agent were hoping for big bucks at a big club. It has not transpired. He is on probably £10k week and wanted £25k a week perhaps?. Nothing doing. Swansea may offer him £15k a week as captain. He may as well sign it. He must be asking will he get offered that even a a free transfer especially if he has a bad season. Only Fulham were interested and even they did not push the boat out for him. He is loved at Swansea. Tariq Fosu was paired with Whittaker surely. Whittaker did not go to Lincoln for whatever reason so Fosu did not come to Swansea. Fosu is a winger.

Indeed Ma'a,. It wasn't funny. The Police were thinking of charging him under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1991. It did make me laugh though as I was there to see it unfold. Then I felt dirty. Dear God, was he overated. Grimes though is more so. He slows us down and is the root of our problem. As was obvious at Preston where we needed a captain. He actually needs dropping

| Matt Grimes stays means Tariqe Fosu doesn’t join Swansea City on 13:08 - Sep 1 by londonlisa2001 | I’d dispute it to be honest. Which is why there was not very much interest in him. Fulham were interested to a point - get him cheap (for them) and ok, anything more and they didn’t want to know which is why he’s still here. Without a contract. So we’ve effectively just paid a £3m loan fee for a player that’s on a relatively large wage as well. That’s bad business in our position however good he is. And I’m not sure he’s anything other than relatively ordinary. He’s certainly no Leon. And that’s fine as not many are, but I’d have taken the £3m, signed Fosu to add a spark further up field, and played Walsh (if he’s ever fit), Ntcham, Downey, Smith, Fulton or Dan Williams in those midfield positions. I think Manning is ok there as well. I’d have got shot of Bennett as well. And Bidwell. And brought in some pace on the left. |
Agree with your last paragraph in many ways but we are very light on experience as it is. As to the Grimes non-transfer a lot Depends on how the bids from Fulham were structured. Was it actually £3 million? If it was too little up front and too much on add ons it may not have been such good business; if the add ons were also potentially unrealistic or able to be got around - number of games for example - then it gets worse. Without the facts of how much the bid was, how was it structured, what were the wages and whether Grimes would accept the wages all we can do is give opinions and guess. We’ll see if he signs a new contract or intends to run his current one down soon enough.

| Matt Grimes stays means Tariqe Fosu doesn’t join Swansea City on 13:18 - Sep 1 by londonlisa2001 | It’s a sign of the talent we’ve lost that so many think Grimes is anything other than a reasonable squad player. He is a Mark Gower for me. Fine and can do a job, but won’t pull up any trees. |
That’s unfair. Gower made bigger impacts in the games he played when used as quarterback by Rodgers

Connor Roberts, too. Hopefully this Summer has been a reality check for Matt Grimes and he now realises he's not worthy of a Premier League contract, neither is he worthy of consideration by the top teams in this league. Fulham clearly saw him as a cheap backup and nothing more. It's rather funny. Nevertheless, we're effectively paying £3,000,000 to play him for one season which, is quite frankly, horrific business by whoever oversaw that decision making process.

If he has discovered his true market value is not what he thought it was he could be inclined to sign a new deal and give himself some security. I am sure Swansea can find some dough for a pay rise. He can sign a release clause to limit his transfer fee to say £3.5m to allow him t leave in the future. Something similar happened with Darren Pratley. The offers made were not enough and he ran down his deal and playing a big part in Swansea's promotion.

It's clear beyond doubt that the Grimes-bashers ain't played no football to any meaningful standard. It's writ large in their ongoing lack of understanding, on a consistent (regular) basis. Newbie Downes simply needs to get out from under Grimes' feet when they're on the pitch together. It's clear he is under Grimes' wing, being shown the ropes, and quite rightly so. Let's he hope learns quickly. Then, and maybe then he has a role to play. It's no coincidence whatsoever that the plethora of armchairs on here are yet again in a minority when it comes to judging proper talent. Were it not for our talismanic leader and captain, we would not have wrested control nor won the Bristol game. Martinball hinges on Grimes to control, build and nurture momentum and confidence from deep. The common trait with our recent managers. Grimes is pivotal. . .

| Matt Grimes stays means Tariqe Fosu doesn’t join Swansea City on 13:39 - Sep 1 by londonlisa2001 | Replace Bennett with Williams this year. We have Cabango, Cooper, Naughton, Manning, Lati (as back up). That’s six players for 3 positions without Bennett. Replace Bidwell with a left sided equivalent of Laird. Manning can play there if it’s hard to find one. |
Agree, although I do think Bennett will be a regular for us this season now. He needs to prove himself, but his experience will be important in such a young team. I would have liked to have seen him moved on, as he isn't what we need long term and his wages would have freed up a lot. Plus as you say, we have plenty of players in that position. I also agree with replacing Bidwell and I think that will happen in Jan. I do really like Jake and the way he plays. At the moment he is playing on the shoulder of the last defender and is doing it quite well. His positioning going forward looks good. He just doesn't have the pace to get up and down like Laird does. I do think he will do a decent job there until January though and provide plenty of chances to Piroe and co. Hope he does well and gets a decent move, as he deserves it. Decent player who does give his all for this club.

Bennett (as with a lot of the side) must be ring rusty after not getting a proper Pre season in and then having COVID on top. His strengths are leadership and defending set pieces. He hasn’t got pace so we are going to have to hope that Williams has got the pace to get back when he’s turned and cover. Bidwell has also been great for us - but if we got a bargain LWB in the mold of Laird then you’d have to say his game time would be limited. I’d rather ship out Manning tbf

Bennett is ok. We need a no nonsense CH to complement those more pretty footy adept. Manning is always liable to; lose the ball get carded go missing Absolutely average and never one to start IMO. Bidwell is not great but more solid and a good pro.

I read on here I think that the offer to Grimes would have made him the clubs highest paid player. Bennett is on excess of 20k a week. My personal view is the club did not turn down 3 million. Grimes will be looking for a big signing on fee next season. Roberts was offered a new contract as well but jumped at the chance of PL football. And was happy for the club to get something back. Not criticising Grimes but that"s how I see it. Same with Bennett he is currently on 23k a week according to an article on here s couple of weeks back. We can't just get rid of him,he needs to agree to go. Can't see too many wanting to.pay that kind of wage for him no disrespect intended. [Post edited 2 Sep 2021 22:48]
