I regard both clubs in similar positions. Good squads. One partly rebuilt after two successful seasons one re energised after missing out on a playoff 18 months ago. Cooper has Brennan Johnson one of the potential stars of the division and good strikers. Johnson might get sold in January.
Until tonight on equal points. Both on an apparent upward trajectory. I have not looked on the bookies odds but perhaps they are currently evenly matched?
Both managers are relatively inexperienced with Cooper a background in youth football and an extra season. Point rations over a handfull of games is indicative but his is a marathon.
Which team do you think will finish higher in May 2022? I believe Cooper is having his early bounce seen in both his two seasons at Swansea. I like to think Martin's ways are more sustainable and long lasting. I believe Swansea will finish above Forest. Copper believes Forest was a better bet for him.
Which club in your opinion will finish higher based on the tools and knowledge at your disposal? This will in my opinion give an indication as to the relative quality of the managers. |
No idea, I think Cooper will have more points per game than Russell this season though. I don’t see why we would be wanting to add Chris Hughtons record in to a comparison of two separate managers.
So where that puts the clubs themselves is hard to say as Russell has an 8 game and 10 point (I think) advantage over Cooper.
But I see Forest won again tonight.

I think Swansea have the better squad, not many I would swap with theirs. But I’ll still go for Cooper, despite him having what I deem as a weaker squad, I think he’s a very good manager indeed.

It's extremely hard to compare us with Forest, the only change there is manager. Here we have the new manager and 9 new players.
Even Forests caretaker manager got a win in his sole game in charge, Forest have a decent squad but Hughton couldn't get a tune from them. Cooper has undeniably done well thus far.
Martin is playing catch up and, despite what some are saying, we have been improving, the signs have been there it's just that a few people want to knock whats happening, have no patience and/or still love Cooper.
The change has happened, some people need to move on. Martin is our manager, maybe we should all just support him properly until he no longer deserves it? |
Forest also have 9 new players and a new manager though? Why do their new players not count?
Cooper had no pre season with them and hasn’t had a transfer window to bring in any of his players. He has had to do this with another managers poor and underperforming squad while changing the whole playing style… mid season.
He took over when Forest were bottom of the league and fan feeling and player attitude reportedly among the lowest in recent times, as opposed to taking over at the start with a fresh clean slate.
Surely Cooper has had the cards stacked against him more at Forest? Don’t see how it can be argued otherwise. Swansea have spent £5m this year, Forest have spent nothing and dealt just in loans and free transfers.
I really can’t fathom some of these blinkered excuses.
It would be far easier if people just gave the credit deserved at the time and the criticism deserved at the time. All this pretence, with reviews based on hoping things get better/worse and predictions of great collapses or newly found dominance is very draining.
Call it as it happens, not as you hope happens. That goes for both us and them.
Anyone unable to give Cooper the credit he deserves after completely turning around bottom of the league club with 13 points out of 15 quite simply have a vendetta and clearly always did. [Post edited 20 Oct 2021 3:15]

Indeed, time (not that it was needed for the sensible among us) has proven these theories utterly wrong and senseless.
He took over the toughest job in the league, bottom club who looked rudderless who regularly were finishing bottom half and sacking their manager.
I remember at the time it was all “let’s see how good he is now!”, fully expecting him to be able to do nothing with what everyone described at the time as an average side.
He completely transformed them into the best performing side in the division with no pre season, no signings of his own until January and days to put his ideas across.
Yet the excuse now is they have a fantastic team apparently. They are a fantastic team because Cooper made them that, like he did with us. He gets the best out of what he is given, that’s what managers do.
Unfortunately we are left with Mr Ego, who is using our team to play a ludicrous style of football that is impossible to bring success simply because he believes it will get him noticed.
The amount of people lapping his nonsense up at the expense of our club is depressing. | |
