Taxi driver 'locked suicide bomber in his car after spotting explosives' before blast ripped through the car outside Liverpool maternity hospital seconds before Poppy Day silence, killing the cab passenger - as anti-terror police arrest three in raids - Taxi driver apparently locked a suicide bomber in his car after spotting he was carrying explosives on Sunday - Three men were later arrested as part of a terror probe after a taxi pulled up and then exploded in Liverpool - One person died, one injured in explosion reported at 10:59am, seconds before 11am Remembrance silence - Armed police officers swarmed Boaler Street in Kensington, Liverpool where they arrested the three suspects - Armed police also sealed off Rutland Avenue near Sefton Park in a raid thought to be part of the terror probe A taxi driver apparently locked a suicide bomber in his car after spotting explosives before a blast ripped through the vehicle outside a maternity hospital in Liverpool on Sunday. The explosion, reported at 10:59am, came moments before the nation fell silent to mark Remembrance Day and killed the cab passenger and injured the driver, named locally as David Perry. The car passenger, a man, was declared dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified. Perry injured and was tonight being treated for burns and shrapnel injuries which police said are 'not life threatening'. The incident took place as a remembrance service involving scores of military personnel, veterans and civic dignitaries, was happening at Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral less than a mile away. A close friend of Perry's told MailOnline the family believe the original target was the Remembrance service: 'The passenger asked David to go to the cathedral so we believe that was the intended target. But they got stuck in heavy traffic so the passenger asked to go to the hospital instead.' Unconfirmed reports on social media suggested Perry averted disaster by locking his passenger inside. Stephen Thomas said online: 'The taxi driver is my mate, and he spotted the passenger acting suspicious. He's in hospital, luckily he escaped just before but he did suffer some injuries.' he wasn't on any "watch list" plus the 4 people arrested have all been released without charge. Some Christian pensions had even let him live with them

Something does not sit well with this being a 'classical islamic jihadi' terror attack with me. I wonder if mental health issues are a driver rather than radicalisation? Islam is less prevalent than most British cities, though relatively large middle-eastern rather than South Asian. No real history of radicalisation here. I guess time will tell.

The fact it happened at 11am on Remembrance Sunday would heavily suggest a calculated ideological motive rather than the random actions of a madman. Unless it was purely coincidence of course.

Best not to speculate and learn. What is it about a religion that makes men want to blow complete strangers to pieces. Even those who take him in as a refugee Truly, our soft liberal attitudes have failed us all.

A religious zealot , who's mentally disturbed ( often go hand in hand in my experience ) and a sprinkling of PTEN is not a good combination .

Some may indeed although I'm not one of them . I respect those who take comfort in their beliefs , they just don't always align with mine . Going back as far as the Roman Empire up to the Germans in the 1st and 2nd world wars all thought "god" was on their side " Gott mit uns "

Hitler was pseudo Christian at best and had strong occultist beliefs. His religious quotes were just for the masses, like many of Goebbels lies, what Hitler said and what he believed are entirely different. Otherwise yes, most wars seemed to rely on their gods support even when it was the same god or gods on both sides Loony ain't it. I choose to believe in Mother nature, I can see it, hear it, feel it. Anything else is human made nonsense.

Hitler was a gibbering maniac driven to insanity by syphilis (probably) and Parkinson’s (confirmed) and the crushing disappointment that nobody likes his paintings.

No religion should demand respect a it is simply an unproven belief. People can believe many weird things. Many believe in the east child brides are justified and indeed desirable. Barbaric and backward and articulated by religious teaching

Do you expect the security services to "know" of every person in the UK who has ever been arrested in that case? There are hundreds of calls a day to the police regarding mentally ill persons possessing sharp objects, posing a danger to either themselves or others. If there is no link to terrorism, why would they be passed on to the security services to monitor? Today we've learnt that the police did indeed acquire his address, name and number from the initial taxi booking, as I suggested was a possibility yesterday. That was the most logical method of them obtaining the information necessary for the raids so quickly. Not a wild conspiracy theory that the security services actually knew of him despite the authorities saying otherwise. I feel like I'm posting in a US election voting fraud thread.

Conspiracy theory? Really? Do you imagine the arrest of a failed Syrian asylum seeker carrying a weapon in a city centre isn’t a red flag? Perhaps you do?
| An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it. |

At least the Perp will soon be in that big dust bowl in the air. Imagine a human rights specialist barrister pleading for him to be seen as a victim himself.

Of course it is a red flag. However if upon investigating the red flag, nothing was found to suggest his actions were linked to terrorism or other motives which may fall under the security services' umbrella, why would he be passed on to the security services?

If you’re asserting that the authority’s risk assessment as to the future danger posed by Al Swealmeen was a sound one then it doesn’t serve your argument awfully well.

Once the criminals have finished their jail sentence they should be put on the next available flight. No more human right lawyers making fortunes while they put in endless delays usually at the taxpayers expense. Simarly once an asylum seeker has had their application turned down they should be deported immediately.

Yet ,they are Still flooding in. Anyone asking questions is called racist. We are a soft touch and for that reason alone worth crossing the Channel after trepsing across most of Europe. We accept people, then they blow us up. Fact.

Pretty shameful |
Not surprising boundy. Let's put it this way.I might get a ban for this but... One evil chap who was planning to blow up a womans hospital complete with new born babies is now with Allah or whatever deity he believe in. No Court appearance No police time No Legal eagles gorging on human rights No prison cost to taxpayers. It's the perfect result. I just wish all terrorist blow themselves up. Pity we couldnt encourage them to have a mass suicide somewhere isolated so they can access 100 virgins and be done with it. Police still dealing and they have done a tremendous job . Well done lads and lasses.

Can't argue with your proposal , instead of using pigs ( no reference at all to the Police I can assure you) to study hypervelocity ballistic impact and its effects, why not use those caught and convicted good target practice , a slow painful death to allow them to recognise the error of their ways , much better use of resources and an aid to medical science at the same time.
