Piroe's goal against Blackpool 08:59 - Nov 24 with 4700 viewsOptimisticJack

Surely must have been mentioned somewhere and I've missed it.
37 passes before scoring and involved 10 players.
Seen it on Twitter but unable to post a link on here.
Can anyone assist by posting the link?
The incredible build up play resulting in a sublime finish.
An obvious candidate for goal of the season.

Piroe's goal against Blackpool on 18:13 - Nov 24 by Brynmill_Jack

Great to watch but the finish itself was a work of art. We all assumed he was a left footed player who could use his right. Now I’m not sure if it’s the other way around ! Either way he can finish with both feet equally deadly or his head. I’m not so sure even Michu could strike the ball that hard with his weaker foot.

The ability to shift from one foot to another casually and not notice a drop off in quality as Piroe does in this clip is one of my favourite things in football. Players with a cracking ‘weak’ foot always rub me the right way.

Piroe's goal against Blackpool on 13:54 - Nov 24 by DwightYorkeSuperstar

37 passes yet not once did we get in behind their defence.

After about 30 safe passes and 2 minutes of possession, one Swansea player finally tries something "risky" by dropping his shoulder and beating his man. Even still, we did not break through Blackpool's defence. The attack culminated in a highly speculative, long range shot.

Let's not exaggerate the goal.

Watch Lita's goal away at Blackburn to see us actually drag opposition players out of position through quick, expansive passing before actually breaking in behind their defence and creating an excellent goal scoring opportunity.

.

This.

The video should be snuck into the manager's inbox / filing cabinet, noted under 'U' for Urgent. And into the Inboxes of All our players and coaching staff.

We need to thrust ourselves further upfield with far more purpose. Grimes should be Unchained............

It was a great goal accompanied by a great finish, but there is (in my opinion) some some substance to the points you make. Its still early days for Martin and he continues to try and shape the team the way he wants to play - Rome wasn’t built in a day.

If that goal was Swansea City 1981 we would still be talking about it now mate.

Fantastic goal.

But a good chunk of our goals since our upturn in form have come via a long ball, something we were reluctant to do early on. So while this is an excellent goal in its own right, it would be dishonest to suggest these are the goals we score typically. Hence why we are already calling it a goal of the season contender already.

Still not sure why people are trying to use good moments in matches to justify their early stances, when in fact it was those of us who were critical that suggested he should and would adapt to a more mixed style.

And it is that mixed style which is allowing us to enjoy such goals as the ones linked in the OP because the opposition know they can’t come at us with full on press anymore because we will kill them with the long ball. It was all too predictable and ponderous under the old system and the opposition knew no matter how hard they pressed we wouldn’t try to catch them out and would continue with short passing.

This is what we were crying out for, and goals like this is exactly why, they are a direct consequence of it. Ironically the introduction of the long ball will give us far more chance of scoring goals like this than without it. I’m amazed so many didn’t see it, but you know me - I’m not one for patting myself and others who stated the same on the back

Almost as if the entire point of the start of the season was laying the foundations of this system.

That point has been argued to death, it still doesn’t make any sense though regardless of what username you use. You don’t lay foundations by cutting out the part the players can already do well and are used to.

If we were laying the foundations for a mixed style then we would see high concentrations of long balls at the start, which is what we were used to (according to many) and then slowly bringing that down over time to reach our goal. That’s a foundation with a plan to develop.

We saw the opposite.

What we saw was 4% long balls and 96% short passes, a radical and opposite approach which saw us get ripped apart time and time again while offering nothing of any sort going forwards as we were restricted to short passes and often couldn’t get out of our positions under the press. It was certainly not the plan to do that, anyone suggesting so is being dishonest or delusional, either one.

What was noted at the time is that this “short at all costs” brand isn’t going to work, and will not work. It needs to have a mixed element in order to work, Martinez, Rodgers, Laurdrup, Sousa and Potter all had this long element added in. We need to go back to some of the longer elements in our game that we did to good effect last year and mix that into the shorter style being developed.

It was explained in great detail and great depth, yet was met with the usual “negative”, “anti Martin” nonsense.

Complete common sense now of course as we have seen and documented the change and the results that have come with it.

Yet we were told he cannot adapt and will not adapt and time will make this 4% short passing game work. We said we disagree and fully believe he can and will change it. The change was obviously needed so would be ridiculous to think he wouldn’t.

Now he has adapted and we are regularly double and triple the long balls we saw at the start, people are pretending that they said that this was the plan all along. When in fact they obviously didn’t and it was those that were vocal early that indeed called the correct change that was needed allowing us to see such goals in the OP.

Hence we now get these boring threads time, after time, after time, after time of people that are trying to justify their stance that he was not adaptable and was not going to incorporate the long ball into the style by pretending we are still “short at all costs”. We aren’t.

These conversations have been happening since August :-

"Utter morons" aren't they.
If this long term "work in progress" is derailed then I hope we see a surge in the consumption of humble pie as there is a clear mandate now to smear anyone who is not in Russyclub,.

Not even Laudrup, a proven renowned superstar has this puppy love.

Why do you keep trying to derail threads with this nonsensical BS? I joined here to debate about Swansea and this is the third or fourth thread you’ve tried to escape a bad point by bringing up your paranoid fantasies about me. Has to stop now.

I am not derailing anything.

Which point do you feel is bad, needing to be escaped from? I think I just explained in great detail didn't I?

I 100% don't think you are a new poster, why do you let it get to you? I told you not to let it.

I don’t care what you think about me. I literally have no idea who you are so you have no effect on my life. I don’t follow you into other football related threads inserting my personal opinions on your character because I disagree with your thoughts points.
