| Your earliest Christmas Swansea City memories : 14:46 - Dec 1 with 5708 views | KeithHaynes | It could even be Swansea Town ! Mine is Boxing Day 1968. Losing at home to Chester 5-0. I was just four but recall it fairly well. Sitting on the old mans shoulders the crowd looked like it was millions ! Plenty of noise that day. I don’t remember the game itself, but do recall a game happening but the lights, noise and people had me transfixed. I was to go to the vetch again for the fa cup against Arsenal in February but the old man said it was going to be like mods and rockers 😂 he was right. It was the first time really bad football violence was witnessed at Swansea.

New Year’s Day is a shocker of a day for football in my mind….I remember going straight through a few times. Anyways, I was merely commenting on the only pencoed jacks comment on how he loves a Boxing Day Derby, maybe he swings both ways? As we seem to have won most. Perhaps he is even older than I thought and recalls your last 1964 victory…..how many times have we played you on nyd anyways?

Once 😂 It was a home win. One of the many over the last forty games 😉 That’s a terrible stat for Cardiff though, seven wins in forty games.

My first visit to the vetch, pissing down if I recall. We levelled at the death after one of yours did an overhead kick in front of us. No women or kids that day. Good atmosphere

It was the Cardiff Fity 3 Swansea City 3 game where Buchanan equalised at the end of the match. A few years later got to go in person and we’d normally take in a rugby match afterwards. Coourse we can, we can remember those easy enough, its just that yesterday and last week become foggy , at a certain stage in lifes journey... I remember we played Liverpool in the league cup late 60s, we had a Scots midfielder ...Mc morran whose tog was taped up with white tape, Ray Clemence made his debut. We exchanged the Scot for Alfie Biggs soon after. On the other hand ask me what I ate for dinner 2 days ago, Id have to get back to you on that one.....if I remember too.

Frank burrows brought curtis to us on a free I believe, like so many others. A great player he was, and a fine gentleman too. Is he still involved with you lot? I always felt him being there was an inspired move on your rise up

Swindon 1978 Chris Kamara was playing for Swindon that day I think. We lost 2.1

Apart from some work with swans tv I don’t think he has much if anything to do with the playing side of things anymore. Others may correct me on that one.

In those days Cardiff was a retirement home for Swans stars at the end of their careers.

Alan Curtis, Nigel Stevenson, Robbie James to name just a few. I'm sure others can add to the list.

Curtis and James are local boys so that’s always likely….Legg and Bowen was it also? Gilligan went the other way…I don’t think either club was basking in glory days when we had them

I do remember that goal by Gilligan. I thought him and Terry Connor were pretty decent for us up front.

Gilligan and scraping the barrel Terry Boyle (of all people) came the other way. Anybody else? I loved Jimmy Gilligan by the way - what a striker. However, Cardiff have benefited more by far from the Swansea retirement home. Discounted Jason Bowen and Andy Legg who must have retired early. Incidentally so called Cardiff legend Legg was discovered from non league obscurity Briton Ferry by the Swans at the relatively old age of 21 and if you look at his stats he was slightly better at us than them up the road.
