I haven't seen anyone commenting on this.
Women play to a decent standard these days, they can referee, they can run the line and they can comment about how the games went re tactics, was it/was it not a penalty etc etc. No problem with any of that.
But when they are the actual commentator on MOTD for example I can't stand it. Essentially the difference is loud voices. When the blokes are doing it and someone scores a goal they are quite simply loud. When the women do it it just doesn't work. It sounds more like a whimper than a shout.
The only reason I can think that the TV companies employ them is for political correctness.

I hate most commentary.
It’s actually ridiculously cringeworthy and unnatural if you listen to what they are saying, every sentence they utter seems to be a carefully constructed rehearsed poem where they try to be profound and memorable.
I always go back to the World Cup in South Africa when they scored “Goal for Bofana Bofana! Goal for South Africa! Goal for AAAALLLLL of Africa!”.
He was clearly up all night thinking of that one hoping to unleash it the following day.
I tend to think of it as this, if you were watching the game in a pub and the volume was broken, and a bloke on the table next to you was doing commentary, you would last about 2 mins before telling him to shut up, even if he was doing it in the exact manner using the exact words and terms the ones that have been muted did.
If I can watch a game and have an option to mute the commentary then I do it without hesitation regardless of gender. |  |

The only commentator I actually like is an American Football commentator, and she is a woman.

Agree. What grates me is when I watch womens football, tennis or even rugby the commentators are all women.

Wrong kilkenny. I'm not talking about knowledge. That's why i'm okay with pundits (someone else mentioned). They can know as much about football as anyone. I just can't stand the squeaky voices when they commentate on actual games. | | | |

Personally I don't really care if it's man or woman, annoying squeaky voice or baritone, as long as the commentator is decent, I don't really care.
Again personally, I'd have Alex Scott over Martin Keown any day! | |

Agreed there are many male commentators who sound awful. Wyndam doesn't come across well at all. I'm being kind there. And Alan Ball ? Terrible voice.
A good commentator makes a big difference to the enjoyment of a game. And the only good ones that i've heard are all male. None of the female ones i've heard are any good. They're just there, in my opinion, for PC reasons. | | | |

I kind of agree and it may be at a sub conscious level. Maybe I object without acknowledging my escapism is being spoiled because I want to remain at the male dominated table. I accept the whiny voice disrupts my enjoyment of the the game but when I am watching a game with the commentary team from another side I turn down the sound. It is simply because I don't like what I am hearing and that goes for poor commentators as well. |  |
