| Energy Prices 06:56 - Feb 4 with 9904 views | jojaca | Mine is up for renewal, just browsing on the Martin Lewis website and the cheapest is £290 a month for fix rate, my jaw has hit the floor. My wages only went up up £20 a month last year and my gas and electric has basically doubled from around £140 a month. This will be proper rejig to finances just to make ends meet. | |

It's expensive to store gas and will push up prices. There's no money in storage

Its about risk. Its about not being immediately exposed to high market prices. We are out of line with everyone else.

Fortunately the UK is not as dependent on gas for generating electricity as Germany.

Of course they aren't they have more coal fired power stations than us, in 2021 they had a 28% increase in coal use.

Yes, the wind stopped blowing so they had to fire up the coal

But the wind doesn't only stop, it has also reduced in power on average, so wind turbines are getting less generation for most of the time.

2021 was a record year for electricity generated by wind In 2020 electricity generated by wind did drop compared to 2019 but on a yearly basis has continued to rise from 2012 Increasing from an average of 2Gw to over 10Gw. Over the same period electricity from Fossil fuels fell from 25Gw to 10.39Gw.

You don't understand what I wrote, they have continuously added more and more wind power. It is the atual power in the wind ie it's average speed that has dropped. https://www.spectator.co.uk/ar You do know gas is a fossil fuel right? I don't know where you get your data from, but it certainly isn't the national grid, I have just dowloaded their data for 2021. 2021 Average Gas = 12253.6 GW = 41.3% of demand 2021 Average Wind = 5590.6GW = 18.8% of demand 2021 Average Coal = 568.9GW =1.9% of demand

Strange all the Global warming experts have said our storm events are on the increase with winds getting stronger.

"Global warming experts" Their problem is they use computer models instead of actula data. If you looked at the actual data you would realise that it is not true.

| Energy Prices on 09:53 - Feb 4 by Catullus | It's swings and roundabouts for us. We use a lot more electricity because my wife is working from home, 3 days per week permanently. Our son is always on his Xbox, laptop or PC too, when he's home but after school he and his friends rarely go outdoors anymore. We are with Octopus and currently paying 161 per month but after replacing the back boiler with a combi we aren't using that much (about 130 I think) but we are letting the cash reserve build up for next winter. Even with leaving the combi on all day and night we aren't using as much gas as only having the back boiler on for 2 hours twice a day, and the house is warmer too. Our 2 year fixed rate deal runs until next June now. I'm hoping things change though we are OK financially, I went back to work just at the right time! |
If your wife is working from home she can get a £6 a week tax rebate which I believe she can claim from her employer.
| Energy Prices on 13:51 - Feb 27 with 1312 views | felixstowe_jack | Currently the National grid is being supplied with 62% of its power from renewable energy, wind 38% solar 22% with only 6% from gas. Will this lower electricity cost or had the price of the sun and wind gone up well due to global shortages. | |

Do you know what we pay for Wind & Solar when all the Subsidies and Grid balancing are included? Grid balancing alone last year was £2.6Billion. The green levies for Wind & Solar is another £11.2Billion. This is of course on top of the "advertised" price of Wind & Solar. To make Wind & Solar more competitive they add approximately £32/MWh Carbon Tax to the cost of gas generation. You and everybody else is paying all this to make rich people with wind & solar even richer and to add to the governments tax coffers.

Duel fuel, gas and electric. I’ve got a Worcester Greenstar boiler and the lights etc are low energy or LED, so it’s not as though I’m burning power for fun. It’s going to be a double whammy, because in addition to our bills increasing, every factory, shop, club, pub is going to experience the same hit and they’ll be putting up their prices to compensate. Have just had my house insurance policy renewal through, it’s gone up 20% so I thought I’d shop around and phoned a well known national company - they wanted 4 times more than I’m paying now. Mental. Rant over. [Post edited 1 Mar 2022 22:23]

| Energy Prices on 12:35 - Mar 2 with 1076 views | JACKMANANDBOY | Mine's up by £800.00, but I've reduced my car insurance by £150.00 by shopping around and I'm dumping sky (£550) and moving to to now TV, if I really want to watch a game I'll get a daily/weekly pass. We've cut out junk from the supermarket (biscuits/chocolate/prepared food) and our aim is to keep our regular bills in line with last year....... WFH means my fuel and travel costs are only 40% of what they were. | |

My Sky runs out soon and won't be renewing along with cancelling TV License, not much left to cut apart from being like Hitler around the house asking everyone to knock things off, using car less and getting more stricter with shopping around for food and goods. Also with inflation continuing to rise, I have started stocking up heavy on long date foods with my council tax free months. From April on, my eating out days are over and my social life. I've looked at future bills and I think for first time in donkey years I will be lucky to break even every month.
