Joe Allen still not released by Stoke City 11th May 2022 12:12
Swansea City will already know that Joe Allen is today having new contract talks with his club Stoke City. Already officially endorsed as a big plus for the current swans squad by Russell Martin recently it seems that the potters are looking at retaining him. Or attempting to. 0

Please let it go Res.
Repeating the old "What Allen did next" saga is pointless.
Regarding his current situation at Stoke, it apparently was Stoke who announced in March they were releasing him ?
If they have had a change of heart and are offering him a new deal, that is their prerogative, as he is still technically their player until his contract runs out ?
No one's to blame though.
Just up to Allen to decide where he wants to finish his career

Joe loves Swansea so much he signed for Stoke TWICE and about to make THREE times. Loves Swansea he does.

Not sure whether there is any indication he is about to commit to Stoke or that they will offer him a new contract ?
I may be wrong (often am )
Money talks though ... cannot see us topping any Stoke offer

Stoke city act fast and loose with the purse strings and outbid Swansea for many players. (Reportedly) Tom Ince, Allen, Surridge, Ryan Woods, Wilmott, Oakley Booth. etc. The Bet 365 family are out of pocket to the tune of £180m and generally done no better than Swansea over the last 10 years being relegated at the same time.

Agree.
Joe Allen may care about that.
However if he is looking for his last big payday (and I don't blame him) then if Stoke offer it he will take it.

Hold on now, what you mean is he signed for Stoke from Liverpool because Liverpool accepted their higher offer which we weren't willing to match.

He's subsequently signed a contract extension, but at that time was there any indication at all that Stoke would sell to us or that we'd pay a fee for him?

Or are you making things up again?

Joey was not obligated to go to Stoke. It was his choice. He had a year on his contract at one of the biggest teams in England. They bid for him. So what? He is a free man and goes where he wants to go. He wanted to go to Stoke not Swansea not Southampton. Slavery ended in the UK 1 August 1834.

I realise it is painful.

No of course not, just as Liverpool aren't obligated to accept lower offers because a player has expressed an interest in going there.

No if he's under contract he isn't free to go where he wanted to go. Not unless he breaks his contract.

No I'm delighted slavery has ended, not painful at all. But while slavery ended, contractual obligations did not making this latest fantasy theory of yours all the more preposterous.

Actually the story at the time was he would have loved to come home but Jenkins wouldn't pay the 8 million Liverpool wanted, then Joe had a great Euro 2016 and Stoke bid 13 million which we wouldn't or couldn't match. Joe's choice was Stoke or see out the year on his contract which probably meant hardly playing.

It was an epic blunder by Jenkins.

If Joey wanted to play for Swansea in 2016 or whenever he would have done so. He was the master of his own destiny. Joey voluntarily went to Stoke for £13m at the behest of Liverpool FC. There was an £8m deal on the table for him at Swansea with some money left in the deal to give Joey and nice package. It was not acceptable in August 2016 but would have been more appealing in January 2019.

Swansea did not offer any money. The deal was done and any talk of it afterwards is just covering their 4rses.
Why don't you have a dig at the trust while you are at it.

From what I know, jenkins stalled and stalled, was warned joe was signing for stoke due to the delay, was warned the night before he signed, Huw didn’t believe he was signing for stoke, following day he signed.

He wanted to wait until the summer.
In January Joe’s stock was very low.
Then the euros and his improved form meant Jenkins made a mistake.
In the summer he was gold.

Exactly.

And if you look at the timeline, we'd already signed Leroy Fer on a permanent fee about a fortnight before, so we weren't going to to sign both that summer.

So that blows out of the water any boolocks about 'sitting tight'.

You're right, twas just a fanciful dream, in a field.

However the main point still stands - the right people (as proposed) sourcing the right candidates for the right model, right now.

Joey has that bright-eyed, heads-up footballing intelligence - which I believe he can replicate in the managerial capacity - and has the authentic media presence to make it work. The antithesis of Martin, in lots of ways. Jus the tonic to fix the fractured following on the terraces/forums.
