How many really hate this country 08:36 - Jul 14 with 3151 viewsonehunglow

I read there is no such thing as Britain! On this site
I read posters are actually basically afraid to leave the safety of the nirvana that is south Wales.

Why are people like this still living here.

Why are Police and Military now daily targets for hate and derision when the majority iterally keep us safe.

We are an ungrateful, stinking pile of poo as a society .

People who say there's no such thing as Britain then sing "Yma o hyd" display a complete lack of knowledge.

When Yma O Hyd goes on about Macsen Wledig, that was Roman Britain, well Britannia as it was back then. There was no Wales, it was all tribal areas with no countries as we know them today.

If these people want to go back to the way things were then accept we are all British and just split us up into regions based on the tribal borders! We can return to calling ourselves the Demetae and up East they will be the Silures. Lets do it eh, lets go tribal, after all thousands of years later and the Demetae and Silures are still arguing.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Great posting and good morning.
I read much on here with incredulity and it worries me that I might be logging on to save my sanity or to realise I am not "twp" and a rather urbane man-in all modesty. I fear for the sanity of many if what they post is genuine.I don't think it is.

I can only assume the anti English crap is not from Swansea people. Swansea people are far more cosmopolitan than village idiots.

Im dreading next week in Anglesey now .

The UK has given me an education. It's given me democracy and human rights. An NHS system paid by taxes which has served me and my family well.I trained and started a business in my early thirties and employed staff who also paid their hard earned taxes into the system. I've made a good living (far from rich) and taken my opportunities . Why do so many immigrants wish to come to the UK (my late mother was one). To make a better life... I know Bangladeshis, Romanians ,Polish who have all done very well. Hard working people.
I'm grateful for all those opportunities!

Great posting Sir.
We are still a good country to live in all things considered
We suffer from PC crap and many do not support those who protect us but we are better as a Union.
To feed off old bitterness form 1000 yrs ago is madness ,surely

There is a total irony in Yma o hyd, Macsen Wledig was a Roman general. He was here to enforce Roman rule on us Britons, those rules could be very harsh and the local populace were never treated as well as a Roman citizen who may have come here. We were treated as second class citizens in our own country but lets hark back to a better time when Wales was Wales (even though it didnt exist back then) and lets all hate the English and the tories in partcular, based on fairy tales by blind, bigoted, small minded folk.

I don't hate this country but I will feel free to hate the people that would rather cast it asunder than work together to build a better future. There's plenty of those all around the UK too.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I think you will find in the real world outside of this forum that the vast majority of Welsh people are proud to be British.

A few tanked up youngsters/unemployed oldies at Wales football games in their bucket hats may think that they are in the majority but in reality they are a tiny %.

Hard working people know the score.

The young bloods often know jackshyte unless it's right in front of them on their phone.

What changed me at 19 yrs of age was becoming friends with a fella that escaped from East Berlin from the DDR (German Socialist Republic) Socialist republic is what Trampie years for in Wales.
It won't happen as 80% of the people won't allow it. We read the noisy minority on here .

The thing is, so many young people leave Wales that this great indy surge will take a very long time to be big enough to even earn a vote. I dont see it in my lifetime and I'm 55, so not for 25 years maybe? HOPEFULLY at least 25!

The way the Senedd is going though, the only people left who will vote for indy will the the dregs of our society, those happy to exist on benefits or be out stealing from others. Anybody with ambition will have left. The others will be the English retirees. That's where the balance is tipping now, why indy won't happen. In another 25 years there will be more English OAP's in Wales than young Welsh people. We really are turning into a retirement home for the English!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I was all for retiring to Swansea or rural France .A week with a resident -Swan fan-convinced us the dream would be a nightmare in reality. Swansea was a consideration to but that's a long story

When siblings marry and grandkids come along,it seems dumb to essentially move away from them.

If our son does leave Wales, as he keeps on saying that's his plan, wherever he settles we will probably sell up and move. Even if we're very old. He's only 13 but he's OK with the plan which is,if he's buying a house, we'll sell and use all our money to help him but with enough left to buld a granny annexe/flat and use our pensions to help himpay the mortgage. We are lucky in that both of us have Occy pensions as well as the state pension. My occy pension right now is around 13k per year and it'll get a big boost in September with inflatin being so high.
I dont hate Wales but if my son ended up living abroad, in a nice temperate country, I would happily sell up and throw my money in with him. Even when I'm a 70 something, I hope I still have the energy and desire to travel. Assuming I'm still around.

Rather insulting post as are most on this thread towards people with a difference of opinion to yourselves.

At the end of the day i support indy and just want what is best for Wales. In my view that would be the UK countries governing themselves and working collaboratively.

Macsen Wledig was a fictional character created about 700 years after the romans had left. It’s a myth, a tale, a wondrously brilliant bit of historical fiction. Geoffrey of Monmouth is up there with Shakespeare, Chaucer and our other most celebrated literary artists. As with King Arthur he might be based loosely on real tales and real people (There was an emperor who supposedly married a Welsh bird) Macsen in a historical sense is as real as Robin Hood or Shakespeares version of Richard III with his withered arm and hunch back which we now know not to be true.

As for the “despite everything, we are still here” stuff, what exactly is “everything”? For the best part of a thousand years Wales has largely avoided the horrors of the world and has existed in relative peace with equality under the law whilst other peoples were expelled, persecuted or even eradicated. Jews for example were put under separate laws, they had a statute of Jewry that limited them, they weren’t covered by Magna Carta, they were routinely massacred in Britain, were forced to wear big badges saying they were Jews by law and eventually were rounded up and sent to Poland. Does that sound familiar to anybody? Catholics and other “heretics” rounded up and burned. The list goes on. When you look at the sort of horror that has happened to other peoples and the wars and reckless hate that has fallen upon other lands I think it’s quite insulting to attempt to paint ourselves as some pathetic victim of relentless tyranny and oppression when there is very little to no actual historical evidence for it.

I hate the direction this country is heading but then I'm reminded that we still produce decent loyal and principled people . I know that the likes of Trampie and CJ have derogatory opinions about our armed forces which are based on incidents which should not ever reflect on the vast majority of those who have served , volunteers or not .
Imo the best Infantry regiment the country has ever produced sadly no longer .
