The difference between our mid table finish last season & a relegation battle was in no small way due to the goals that Piroe stuck away early in the season. While the side adapted to Martin’s style he won won us quite a few points through his individual ability.
He also flourished in the no.10 role enabling Obafemi to start delivering on his potential. Selling him will set us back & finding a replacement at the 11th hour will be extremely high risk & foolhardy. If there is another like him out there for £1-2m then he should have been bought by now. Some of the the business experts saying that we can replace him & bank £10m, not a prayer. Every club dreams of unearthing a bargain like Piroe. Selling him will be a sign of the club’s ambition. Fortunately for us he's happy-go-lucky, chilled out. Massively supported by his dad who constantly has a close watching brief.

We weren’t and the capitulation in the last 10 or so games showed how mentally weak the squad had become. I didn’t like Cooper - for the same mental weaknesses when mental strength was needed (the capitulation in the play offs and the constant picking of Connor Hourihane when he was offereingnless than nothing to our squad).
Martin has no more excuses although if Piroe goes that will give him a good excuse if we underperform.
Losing Piroe now after gaining cash through Downes would basically end the season before it’s started. Players like him don’t grow on trees. |  |
