| Plaid Cymru - Assaulting your wife is fine? 12:26 - Aug 12 with 4607 views | Joesus_Of_Narbereth | The wife of Carmarthen East MP Jonathan Edwards who was assaulted by him is shocked and appalled at Plaid Cymru’s decision to return the whip to him and welcome him back to the party. Mr Edwards previously accepted a caution for the assault on his wife, issued a public apology and attended an educational course about domestic violence. Once again a person in public office has committed a fairly serious and deeply unpleasant offence and yet is allowed to still ‘serve’ as an MP. And by restoring the whip is Plaid Cymru complicit in condoning these sorts of offences? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk- | |

Who cares if someone is boring as long as they get the job done and can be trusted ? They’re not Big Brother contestants. (Know you’re not saying that ) |
I wish I knew the answer. It seems that you need to be some sort of character these days. I’d happily settle for boring but effective. [Post edited 12 Aug 2022 20:47]

Some of the greatest orators, people who can transfix thousands with their speeches, have been the very worst people to follow. being interesting has been a recipe for disaster as Bojo proves. Maybe it is just the right time for boring but effective, which rukes out John Major anyway. Thing is, looking at the tories, is Sunak effective, or will Truss be? I think I stand as much chance of being effective as them! They have a party full of idiots to choose their cabinet from and Labour is hardly better. Both of them need to ditch the old guard and get some new blood in.

I guess it comes with the job that if you want to win votes you have to have some skill in inspiring or influencing people. For Starmer to have any chance of winning an election he needs to attract a certain percentage of those voters that are inclined to vote Tory, or SNP or Farage etc. Boris managed to attract an element of the working class. Blair wooed lots of Tory types. It is essential really for success particularly in the modern age.

Out of the two Sunak seems head and shoulders above Truss. Far better for any opposition facing her,. Whatever you may think of him at least he had the guts to face someone like Neil. She skipped it.

Truss worried me because she started throwing out "populist" promises, unfunded and unplanned things that could cause more damage. Just as worrying though, it won her support so Sunak started making promises too, made a few U-turns. Whoever we get as leader, whether it's Sunak or Truss or we have a GE and Labour win, the pressure to things that may well cause more problems will be intense, such as big pay rises for all. If they, whoever they are, chase popularity they could do damage that lasts many decades given the already bad situation. If inflation continues to spiral and interest rates continue to rise very many people will struggle just with their mortgages never mind the other increases. Now may be a good time to stop HS2, cut our losses and spend the money where it's needed more.

Which I think is partly why he’s awol at the moment. The labour type policies that would look at dealing with the cost of living would not be popular with the Tory voters he wants to attract. Rock and a hard place.

Perfect time to be in opposition, country is in a mess, energy companies making obscene profits, very likely to have a mass revolt of people refusing to pay their bills, heard on radio coming home that companies are refusing to pay people their money if they’re in credit in case they fall behind in their bills later. There’s a suggestion there’s going to be a mass revolt of people refusing to pay their bills. People like Johnson don’t care. Going to be a hard winter ahead

Its only a perfect time to be in opposition if you are going to take advantage of it. Something that Starmer has failed to do at every opportunity. We're in a strange era for politics, who would've ever thought buffoons like Johnson and Trump would govern their respective countries. Johnson might even ve followed be Truss, it is pretty remarkable.

The response to the current crisis seems broadly similar across Europe, with subsidies paid directly and a mixture of other steps. France seem to be the only country that has gone full Nationalisation, but that brings its own problems. EDF are now basically bankrupt, and the French taxpayer will have to pick up the tab. The oft tweeted statistic about UK prices rising by the highest percentage seems generally true, but as always the devil is in the detail. Prices in the UK were generally lower than a number of countries beforehand so they've had further to rise.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

We’ll need to have another listen but KS explained on The Rest Is Politics about his 3 point plan for government it was something along the lines of repairing the damage following the devastation of the last election, making labour a serious contender for government and them taking down the tories. It may be said that he’s done the first two, at the moment, he’s letting the, rip each other apart (all those sound bites for their campaign ) He will then have 2 years or so to properly take Truss down. He also had to be careful re the opposition in covid as it was a tome national unity. Very difficult when you’re against a massive majority. Think a coalition is likely despite what they say about no pacts.

Just means if you don't pay your bills you get cut off, get a bad credit rating and of course it will make it more expensive for the majority who do pay their bills.

It’s not just a matter of people refusing to pay their energy bills, it’s a matter of a lot of people not being able to afford to pay them.

We've been heading down this road as more people have become detached from politics. So many don't bother to vote now because they don't think it makes any difference, it doesn't matter who gets elected the politicians win. As a result the politicians think they can do as they want and expect to get away with it. Lie, cheat, steal, break the law...they do it all and think it's ok. We have got what we deserved because so many people turned their backs on the government. We always need to watch the political establishment and let them know they can't get away with this nonsense.

| Plaid Cymru - Assaulting your wife is fine? on 19:36 - Aug 12 by ReslovenSwan1 | Yes he is serious. It sounds like a gap in your knowledge. Welsh history has already been rewritten by the English historians and not in our favour. I see the Welsh castle as a glorious tribute to our fighting men and women against Norman rule. Have you ever figured out that England and the Saxon Anglo populace was under Norman rule very quickly after 1066. It took another 400 years to quell Welsh resistance to the English Norman monarchy. Consider that when you drive over the Prince of Wales bridge to the match at Reading. We have our own parliament and Welsh people can kick out the thug at the next election. We earned it through blood sweat and 400 years of tears. Some pro Saxon elements want it abolished. [Post edited 12 Aug 2022 19:37]
