Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers : Match day thread 22/23 FRI UPDATE 15:22 - Sep 1 with 6380 viewsKeithHaynes

This game will not be played at Loftus Road due to the fact it’s being played at the swansea.com stadium. Be warned.

On Saturday the referee will be Olivier Langford, he will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Matthew Mcgrath, while Andy Davies will be the fourth official.

Mas tarde.

Brilliant win, will bring them a lot of confidence. Improvement from the shambles against Luton and Midds is immense.

Much less messing around the back, no daft passing from the keeper. Great three points

Well done better today maybe the penny has dropped with Martin some nice football first half better when we play 4-3-3.
Bit more pragmatic at the back as well though 2nd haltf looked like reverting to type hung on well
Though for the win

It was very much an improvement. Benda kept his goal much better than Fisher, he made 3 good saves and when he had to, the ball was sent high and long.

The movement was quicker and we should maybe have had a couple more but then, QPR may have deserved a goal too. Their keeper saved the penalty well though. They pressured us towards the end but we defended well, put our tackles in and we looked much tighter at the back.

Piroe took his goal very well too.

Now lets keep going in this direction!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Seemed to be a total philosophical change about our play at the back, which was welcome. As much as I suspect Fisher is being made to look worse than he is by the totally unecessary pressure we spend most of the game putting him under, Benda is just a more complete keeper IMO.

Otherwise a gutsy win if not a particularly dominant one. Penalty save aside their keeper didn't have a lot to do whereas SB was forced into two or three really good stops. Pleased with the resilience we showed for much of the game but still big, big room for improvement.

Also impressed with Oli Cooper. First time I've really seen him in action close up and he looks decent. Faded badly in the second half but that's not unexpected.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

It was a back to basics gutsy performance Martin said as much in a post match interview how we did it a different way interestingly we probably had our lowest ever possession stat under Martin today

It was just that and we need to keep it going now. The other improvements may come with the confidence that winning will bring.

Benda made 3 very good saves and the defence simply got rid of the ball when we had too. Pragmatism won the day. There still some very good football at times but there was strong tackling too, a willingness to support in deence and sometimes their attackers had 3 of us closing them down, it was a proper team win.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Looks like the players have had a word together and done a 180 on martin's ways of non football.

Today we looked like someone else was manging us.

An utterly differently outlook and one much overdue.

Due to a family gathering, I was unable to watch or listen to today’s game, so I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain how the team was set up. The OS team sheet contains semi-colons separating groups of players, and that would suggest we had three CBs, WBs, Grimes and Allen in MF and Piroe in front of Cooper and Paterson up front. Is that right? I read elsewhere that we had a back four. The BBC website is usually good for a laugh on this score, although they seem to get their ideas from the order that the club puts players in on their Twitter visual.

I did follow the game on text and it sounded like everything some of us (most of us?) have been calling for since the start of last season. Long may it continue!

so because people critique andsay things how they are its negative?
1 win in 15,surrendered how many leads in the dying minutes of games, riding our luck when playing silly games at the back
it's not negativity Builthy its frustration why can't the manager see it?...
I take my hat off to you for your support Wednedsays trip even from you is a slog midweek but even given the better performance (as it was told to be by Radio Wales) eithbus playing with more purpose pace and intent we were lucky not to be one down in the first 5 mins and then we reorganised the defence and concede yet again at the end of the game.
Until this crazy play at the back gets sorted we are vulnerable...Martin has to sort it out.

I agree. Russ has obviously had his arse kicked as we were playing a variety of tactics and with a lot of go forward impetus. The lunatic has a squad a lot of managers would dream of and he was too stupid or arrogant to utilise it properly.

No stupid goal kick f*ckwittery tells me he had the slippper Thursday morning. About time too.

Just watched the highlights and changed my mind over Cabango’s early muck up, Live it looked like a red but the ref was spot on. … our #5 retrieved the situation perfectly .. no foul. Tangle of arms but Cabango put himself between the player and the ball. We’ve seen Ashley Williams do that hundreds of times.
But how sid we get 3 yellows and QPR none?

Ps
Did anyone notice Laird?

Was nice to see the back four being played, may have to make some changes with 3 games in a week but that will be possible with Darling filling in for Manning or go central and Wood move across for Naughton.
Was also good to see the same back four in place at the end of the game.
For the most part there was like for like subs which meant not moving plays around all over the pitch.
Bit unfortunate for Cullen and wish him a speedy recovery but didn't think of him as a suitable sub for Sorinola and the eventual shape remained good.
