The battle for solidity in the top six is next.

Russell Martin talks about the pain, the hurt, and the rewards : Burnley pre match 13th Oct 2022 16:59
Swansea City go in to Saturdays game at Burnley with Joe Allen unavailable and really now it seems his focus is on the World Cup with Wales. Jamie Paterson still has ten days to go before he can be considered for selection. 0

Swansea City in fine form for todays game against Burnley 15th Oct 2022 08:25
Swansea City go in todays game against Burnley on a fine run of form, especially when it comes to winning games away from home of late. The test at turf moor today will be one of the hardest of the season but a win today for the swans would consolidate their position in the top six, a loss could see them fall dramatically if results go against them. 0

The Ref - Stephen Martin will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Burnley on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Staffordshire-born Martin has officiating in his blood with his father and grandfather blowing the whistle in the Football League. He first took up refereeing in 2002 and had made it to step five of the football pyramid within six years. He joined the National List of Referees ahead of the 2012-13 season and took charge of his first Championship match in January of that campaign. In 2015, he was included in the list of Select Group 2 officials. This will be the thirteenth time he has taken charge of a Swans games. Ten of the previous contests were league matches and the most recent of these was the Swans first home match of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers. On that occasion, Martin handed out four bookings with yellows shown to Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe as well as Rovers’ Sam Gallagher. So far this season, he has taken charge of eight games handing out 27 yellow cards but no reds. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Matthew Smith. Dean Whitestone will be the fourth official.

Burnley: Arijanet Muric, Jack Cork (captain), Ian Maatsen, Nathan Tella, Vitinho, Josh Brownhill, Anass Zaroury, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Josh Cullen, Jordan Beyer, Jay Rodriguez.

Subs: Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Charlie Taylor, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Barnes, Manuel Benson, Samuel Bastien, CJ Egan-Riley.

Swansea City: Steven Benda; Nathan Wood, Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Matty Sorinola; Olivier Ntcham, Joel Piroe; Michael Obafemi.

Subs: Andy Fisher, Harry Darling, Luke Cundle, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Fin Stevens, Ollie Cooper.

Swansea City resort to type and lose their way in Lancashire 15th Oct 2022 20:09
We have seen some poor performances this season from Swansea City, and todays annihilation at Burnley was right up there. The swans didn’t turn up, they didn’t care and they couldn’t process a team who had far more than they did in energy and desire. It was a real ‘thumping back down to earth bump’ that once again will test the credentials of Russell Martin over the coming days. 0

Can you provide some evidence other than your own use of the word ?
The use of the word towards you and others collectively and why then if it’s an issue you continue to use it ?

We have seen number of high profile players take up manageral appointments in the Premiership being given quality squads but struggle to steer to reach targets expected.
Gerrard for example had a good time at Rangers but is struggling at the moment is that because of a lack of coaching/manageral experience, he would of had some role models to call upon in his time at Liverpool which seems to have helped him at Rangers but isn't enough at the moment at the higher level. Still learning his trade?

Arteta took a year to get to a standard with a quality squad that he has shaped, can he keep it up?

Company was a quality player like Gerrard has role modes to follow with quality Loans and a lot of ex Premiership team players in his squad who he seems to be comfortable at this level.
My point is about levels of coaching experience coupled with the squad you have.
We have what I would call an inexperienced manager/ coach trying to get to grips at a level he has not worked at before with a squad of players which is a right old mixture of an ever decreasing numbers of ex Premiership players, some quality players who haven't reached their potential and youngsters with promise.
As with many teams a manager may keep trying something that doesn't work until they change things around and falls upon a team that "works"
I think Martin may have got closer to that team with additions to his squad of Darling, Wood, Cooper and Cundle.
Some coaches "fall" upon a team a lot quicker than other but is that experience and understanding at the level they are working at.
Couple of home games we will see if Martin has gained any experience and learnt how to cope with losing one of our better performing players.

Premier League managers are the best in the world and you can easily get found out. You can rip it up managing in the championship but struggle as a manager in the Premier league, ask Cooper.

I didn't want to bring up Cooper because people might think I was having a go. I think Forest have done the right thing in persisting with Cooper given he has been in the coaching set up for a good number years so with his experience he should be able to turn things around sooner than later if he and his squad get up to speed with the Premiership.

I was more inclined to mention Sean Dyche whose coaching experience got Burnley into the Prem had a setback(lack of Premiership experience?) then promoted again good run in the Prem until the team was relegated.

Was it because of his lack of skills, a squad that eventually wasn't good enough or did he have the right players but couldn't get them playing well enough to keep them up.

Company doing well at the moment with a number of ex Premiership players augmented with some good loans,
which is often the case with recently relegated team.

I don’t think you can compare Martin to Pep really?

You are seriously questioning that Martin should have known how to deal with Burnley ( but didn't on the day ).
So likewise I am saying that Pep should have known how to deal with Liverpool ( but didn't on the day ).
Of course Martin is no Pep.
Likewise Burnley are no Liverpool.
Hope that clarifies where I am coming from ?

I accept some of that but many said once they saw the team we were in trouble and even you said no change at half time despite the need for something

It is amazing how Martin gets compared to Pep and once to Fergie when he arrived at Utd ...

I know we will never agree on Martin but it is obvious either he hadnt scouted Burnley or just ignored the info.

Burnley as I have said are a level above us BUT our tactics and set up on the day made it easier for them

The Swansea preparation for every game is ruthless, it clearly didn’t work on Saturday 😂

I will add we are an average team in an average league, that’s how it is.

Martin really needs to look back on the footage of some of games to see why we were made to look so bad and so openly exposed.Whether it be Burnley or the second half against Sunderland or the games we lost points in the last minutes.
If he is now admitting he made mistakes maybe he can now start trying to rectifying them.

While it is nice to have pre-match press conferences would be nice if he was a little more circumspect with information he makes available to the opposition.

I agree and we had a bad day at the office.
I fully expected Martin to change it at half time, and he didn't.
Just saying that Martin didn't suddenly revert to being a bad manager on Saturday.
I am confident he will correct matters tomorrow

I am not aware of many others if any who use the word ?

Considering RM has played 29 times internationally as a defender , and has won 5 promotions (including 2 Premiership ones) how come he’s so poor in setting up his team to defend?

How many thumpings are you allowed, before you question his abilities?

Saturday against an ex premiership side with 2 fast wingers/wide players, we play 3 at the back, not known for their pace, and Latibeaudiere who has zero pace, and Sorinola, who’s got about as much of a clue about defending, as Liz Truss has of being Prime Minister.

It’s ok to come out with excuses after the event, but for this game it surely didn’t take a Stephen Hawkin brain to see a 4 at the back defence was the order of the day?

But hey ho, Russy says “Don’t worry it’s all my fault!”

Your damn right it’s you fault.

You shipped goals for fun with the Franchise Dons, and now your bluffing it with Swansea City fc.

Winning 4 out of 5 is all very good, but sustaining it through a season is what good managers do.

He’s basically trying to play high risk passing football out from the back, with players not skilful enough to carry out his “The Process” mantra

Think the concern is how open we are and liable to ship goals, was nice to have the unbeaten run hope we start other.
He lost one of his best defenders/attackers and got the team selection wrong and didn't try and change it until it was way to late against Burnley, and yet was quite happy to use Cameron Congreve as an early scapegoat against Middlesbrough.
Hopefully as he has said he has seen his errors made against a good Burnley team and make sure these mistake are kept to a minimum for the rest of the season.
