The Ref - Stephen Martin will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Burnley on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Staffordshire-born Martin has officiating in his blood with his father and grandfather blowing the whistle in the Football League. He first took up refereeing in 2002 and had made it to step five of the football pyramid within six years. He joined the National List of Referees ahead of the 2012-13 season and took charge of his first Championship match in January of that campaign. In 2015, he was included in the list of Select Group 2 officials. This will be the thirteenth time he has taken charge of a Swans games. Ten of the previous contests were league matches and the most recent of these was the Swans first home match of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers. On that occasion, Martin handed out four bookings with yellows shown to Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe as well as Rovers’ Sam Gallagher. So far this season, he has taken charge of eight games handing out 27 yellow cards but no reds. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Matthew Smith. Dean Whitestone will be the fourth official.

Today's result has made an old man very happy.
He's had to wait a while after 4 wins, its like teams we play against have no right to play well and beat us, to block our shots or to score against us, we were very very poor today, it happens, but we came up against a very very good side, we missed Manning today, don't know why he didn't play, but we gifted them goals at the back post where Manning would be, and no doubt falling to the floor and winning us a free kick.

Whatever the pros or cons of Martin. He cannot do anything about the complete lack of effort of the players. No urgency, no passion, Burnley players were a different class, way too easy for them. |  | | |

Yes, i understand your point. But from a fan watching on TV, you just want to see an increase in tempo and urgency and directness. When your 3/4 nil down recycling the ball around Grimes and the defense hasnt worked in the first place. [Post edited 15 Oct 2022 18:57]

A pass is only as good as the movement made by the player who receives the pass........no movement then no pass and ultimately the ball gets recycled.
Don't fall for the myths on here that more forward and direct passes are needed.....its not going to work without the movement being made, if they are made then those passes WILL be made.
They are not going to recycle recycle recycle just for possessions sake, they do it because there is no pass on hence the possession being higher due to the more recycling of the ball.
Oli Cooper in the team makes a massive difference because he is constantly on the move and it's no coincidence our possession percentage is lower with him in the team. Tells you everything really if you are willing to see it of course. |  |

in fairness for the last 4 games Martin has deserved and received praise including from me...but today he git his team selection wrong and also his substitutions.
He is starting to creep back to playing round pegs in square holes players who fit but cant fill the slot
I still dont understand why Ogebeta is frozen out
as our left flank was so weak today....where is Manning?
That said Burnley were a PL side last season have quality so no knee jerks but tactics selection must be questioned |

Was it a late injury to Manning enough not risk before Tuesday, does Martin think we had enough strength in depth in that team to cover his loss. Obviously not or he would have changed it earlier.The number of players lacking pace was evident in the starting line up. | | | |
