| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 00:28 - Oct 9 with 18680 views | NotLoyal | The battle for solidity in the top six is next. Swansea City in fine form for todays game against Burnley 15th Oct 2022 08:25Swansea City go in todays game against Burnley on a fine run of form, especially when it comes to winning games away from home of late. The test at turf moor today will be one of the hardest of the season but a win today for the swans would consolidate their position in the top six, a loss could see them fall dramatically if results go against them. 0 The Ref - Stephen Martin will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Burnley on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Staffordshire-born Martin has officiating in his blood with his father and grandfather blowing the whistle in the Football League. He first took up refereeing in 2002 and had made it to step five of the football pyramid within six years. He joined the National List of Referees ahead of the 2012-13 season and took charge of his first Championship match in January of that campaign. In 2015, he was included in the list of Select Group 2 officials. This will be the thirteenth time he has taken charge of a Swans games. Ten of the previous contests were league matches and the most recent of these was the Swans first home match of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers. On that occasion, Martin handed out four bookings with yellows shown to Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe as well as Rovers’ Sam Gallagher. So far this season, he has taken charge of eight games handing out 27 yellow cards but no reds. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Matthew Smith. Dean Whitestone will be the fourth official. Burnley: Arijanet Muric, Jack Cork (captain), Ian Maatsen, Nathan Tella, Vitinho, Josh Brownhill, Anass Zaroury, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Josh Cullen, Jordan Beyer, Jay Rodriguez. Subs: Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Charlie Taylor, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Barnes, Manuel Benson, Samuel Bastien, CJ Egan-Riley. Swansea City: Steven Benda; Nathan Wood, Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Matty Sorinola; Olivier Ntcham, Joel Piroe; Michael Obafemi. Subs: Andy Fisher, Harry Darling, Luke Cundle, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Fin Stevens, Ollie Cooper. Swansea City resort to type and lose their way in Lancashire 15th Oct 2022 20:09We have seen some poor performances this season from Swansea City, and todays annihilation at Burnley was right up there. The swans didn’t turn up, they didn’t care and they couldn’t process a team who had far more than they did in energy and desire. It was a real ‘thumping back down to earth bump’ that once again will test the credentials of Russell Martin over the coming days. 0

After about the first 15-20 mins , it looked as if we had no idea what to do.

Today's result has made an old man very happy. He's had to wait a while after 4 wins, its like teams we play against have no right to play well and beat us, to block our shots or to score against us, we were very very poor today, it happens, but we came up against a very very good side, we missed Manning today, don't know why he didn't play, but we gifted them goals at the back post where Manning would be, and no doubt falling to the floor and winning us a free kick. As Curt said, bad day ot the office.

He cannot do anything about the complete lack of effort of the players. No urgency, no passion, Burnley players were a different class, way too easy for them.

It's the way we lose at times, we don't half get our fair share of tankings. Once someone easily works us out they threaten cricket scores like Forest, Fulham Bournemouth etc last season.

Martin seems incapable of switching things during a game when things are going against us...As a manager he should by now have learnt this.... Let's hope he has it sorted for next Sumday

But from a fan watching on TV, you just want to see an increase in tempo and urgency and directness. When your 3/4 nil down recycling the ball around Grimes and the defense hasnt worked in the first place. [Post edited 15 Oct 2022 18:57]

It easy to get the defenders to pump the ball forward but the frustration would still be there or even worse with aimless ball after aimless ball. A pass is only as good as the movement made by the player who receives the pass........no movement then no pass and ultimately the ball gets recycled. Don't fall for the myths on here that more forward and direct passes are needed.....its not going to work without the movement being made, if they are made then those passes WILL be made. They are not going to recycle recycle recycle just for possessions sake, they do it because there is no pass on hence the possession being higher due to the more recycling of the ball. Oli Cooper in the team makes a massive difference because he is constantly on the move and it's no coincidence our possession percentage is lower with him in the team. Tells you everything really if you are willing to see it of course.

Spot on, even with my night shift groggy head It doesn't take a genuis to work out they were destroying down the flanks and pressing us easily. But nothing changes, 1 down, 2 down, 3 down, 4 down, still same tactics. [Post edited 15 Oct 2022 19:29]

Burnley away is done and dusted now. We strap ourselves back in and move on.

He is starting to creep back to playing round pegs in square holes players who fit but cant fill the slot I still dont understand why Ogebeta is frozen out as our left flank was so weak today....where is Manning? That said Burnley were a PL side last season have quality so no knee jerks but tactics selection must be questioned |
Manning was injured | |

Was it a late injury to Manning enough not risk before Tuesday, does Martin think we had enough strength in depth in that team to cover his loss. Obviously not or he would have changed it earlier. The number of players lacking pace was evident in the starting line up.

Maybe but doesn't that destroy any confidence that may have been built within the team and so is counter productive.

I think he'd have picked a team that he thought could do a job there, but equally I don't doubt that he'd be targeting this weeks two home games as more likely to yield points. It was a sh*t day at the office. Some will take pleasure in defeat, others will despair, most will realise that these things happen and how we react is more important.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |
