| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 00:28 - Oct 9 with 19949 views | NotLoyal | The battle for solidity in the top six is next. Swansea City in fine form for todays game against Burnley 15th Oct 2022 08:25Swansea City go in todays game against Burnley on a fine run of form, especially when it comes to winning games away from home of late. The test at turf moor today will be one of the hardest of the season but a win today for the swans would consolidate their position in the top six, a loss could see them fall dramatically if results go against them. 0 The Ref - Stephen Martin will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Burnley on Saturday (3pm kick-off). Staffordshire-born Martin has officiating in his blood with his father and grandfather blowing the whistle in the Football League. He first took up refereeing in 2002 and had made it to step five of the football pyramid within six years. He joined the National List of Referees ahead of the 2012-13 season and took charge of his first Championship match in January of that campaign. In 2015, he was included in the list of Select Group 2 officials. This will be the thirteenth time he has taken charge of a Swans games. Ten of the previous contests were league matches and the most recent of these was the Swans first home match of the campaign against Blackburn Rovers. On that occasion, Martin handed out four bookings with yellows shown to Jay Fulton, Michael Obafemi and Joel Piroe as well as Rovers’ Sam Gallagher. So far this season, he has taken charge of eight games handing out 27 yellow cards but no reds. On Saturday, he will be assisted by Mark Dwyer and Matthew Smith. Dean Whitestone will be the fourth official. Burnley: Arijanet Muric, Jack Cork (captain), Ian Maatsen, Nathan Tella, Vitinho, Josh Brownhill, Anass Zaroury, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Josh Cullen, Jordan Beyer, Jay Rodriguez. Subs: Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Charlie Taylor, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Ashley Barnes, Manuel Benson, Samuel Bastien, CJ Egan-Riley. Swansea City: Steven Benda; Nathan Wood, Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Matty Sorinola; Olivier Ntcham, Joel Piroe; Michael Obafemi. Subs: Andy Fisher, Harry Darling, Luke Cundle, Liam Cullen, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Fin Stevens, Ollie Cooper. Swansea City resort to type and lose their way in Lancashire 15th Oct 2022 20:09We have seen some poor performances this season from Swansea City, and todays annihilation at Burnley was right up there. The swans didn’t turn up, they didn’t care and they couldn’t process a team who had far more than they did in energy and desire. It was a real ‘thumping back down to earth bump’ that once again will test the credentials of Russell Martin over the coming days. 0

| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 on 11:23 - Oct 16 by swan_si | Not as a wing back for sure, he's got no pace, always 1 challenge away from a yellow, whether its pulling back a player or a rugby style tackle, defending set pieces in the box he has no idea where the ball is because he's clinging the bloke he's supposed to be marking, even after the ref's had a word he's at it, I dont think football and brain can be used in the same sentence, unless you put, lack of, before it. |
I tend to agree with AJ on Latibeaudiere and Sorinola. They won’t inspire a championship winning side because they are not championship winning players.

| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 on 10:20 - Oct 16 by Brynmill_Jack | Firstly Grimes is nowhere near Jack Cork in ability. Secondly no one wanted Grimes so his value is very low anyway. Lastly RM isn’t learning as far a I can see. We’ve had a great run but not looked convincing in any of our games. I’m actually wondering if he regarded yesterday as a free hit so rested Cooper and Cundle ? Our lack of defensive pace and decent full backs doesn’t bode well - why on earth didn’t he at least loan some? |
I didnt compare them BJ just stated that fans were split. As for resting players every manager looks at fixtures and makes a balanced decision so i agree this may be the case. As for pace, a back three with any of our defensive players is fragile, especially with Manning missing we should develop Darling. As for loanees i was also suprised that we didnt get pace. We tried that last season with Ogbeta and apparently it has failed.

We haven't looked convincing. We hammered Hull We got 3 at WBA and battled superbly, showed a tremendous team spirit. Superb win at Watford in a game that the vast majority would have taken a point. Sunderland was a battle and we dug in and showed a great team spirit once again. 12 points when I would have taken 7 as a superb return. I think a step back and take into account we are 8th in the league and 4 points off top spot is very much needed.

Missed him big style yesterday, that rwb would have got feck all out of ryan plus his experience would have helped the back 3 who were like fish out of water. [Post edited 16 Oct 2022 13:28]

The thing is we are not consistent and when we are exposed we have been punished, add in some schoolboy errors both in defence and attack points have been cheaply lost when they shouldnt have been. Posters claiming players that have been loaned out could do a better job are just opinions that cannot be validated. The players we have brought in were to suit our budget. I honestly thought Congreve would have flourished but some errors put him out of the squad rightly or wrongly, but thats the coaches call. I agree with you team spirit has been good, Cooper and Cundle have offered a fast high press and has lifted the team which was missing big time yesterday, my biggest concerns are our strikers especially Piroe who is a shadow of his former self. I think we are doing ok, could be a lot better if the stupid mistakes were eliminated and players showed more consistency. This whining about this and that is not going to help improve our team in anyway whatsoever.

Reading on Tuesday will be a massive marker. They are in the same position as us and will show us where we are with potential play off opponents. We’ve been on a great run, we got stuffed, but it’s the championship, it’s a crazy league, these things happen. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We have a young squad so consistency is a massive battle when that is taken into account....this is why I believe he plays Naughton before Darling because of his experience but he seems to be struggling of late especially when we play with more intensity. I would be very interested to see an Obefami up top with Oxo Flex and Oli Cooper behind him on Tuesday night.

Or say leave Oba up top with no responsibility whatsoever, and play Cundle and Cooper. Either way we need to develop our young players, Kyle has been a fantastic footballer for us and has struggled lately making silly errors but so have the rest of them so i agree play Darling.

Ntcham could have a different role to play with Piroe picking up a red, could play him more central behind Obafemi, with Cooper and Manning out left, Sorinola had a mare yesterday (as did most), been playing better on the right actually getting crosses in, should have played him there yesterday and Oko flex on the left, maybe Russ was going with more experience, hindsight is wonderful thing.

My concern ATM would be how our 2 strikers are performing, a bit below par I feel, hopefully they'll start clicking soon.

Early opportunity to jump back in the saddle on Tuesday and with at least one enforced change then a chance to redress the balance after yesterday's hammering by the best side in this division.

| Burnley v Swansea City : Matchday Thread 2022/23 on 16:28 - Oct 16 with 978 views | jojaca | I just hope yesterday's game finally puts an end to Joel L as a wingback, offers nothing in attack and looks like a standing statue against pace. Strikers have been disappointing this season, Piroe has missed a few, but I still don't think we create enough for them. I would like to see Obafemi play behind Piroe. Cooper/Ntcham is hard one to call, it's basically work rate versus an inconsistent maverick. I would also like to see more of Cundle, been impressed so far. I am also curious how we would play without Grimes. At the back, it's time to for Naughton to step aside for Darling. I also think we would be a big threat from set pieces with Darling/Cabango and Wood. Manning is now the most important player to the team. | |

Definitely, especially with all the bookings. The game was effectively lost, I would have like to seen our young loanees given more game time. The only explanation I could think of for lack of substitutions is fear of a real hammering.

Makes a bit of nonsense of playing with no fear but didn't we have a chance just before their fourth a Cabango header?

He obviously had more faith in the starting 11 turning it around than the travelling Jack's or those at home did. We were all stunned to see all the subs stay on the pitch through half time
