No I don't, at the end of the day we achieved zilch, we were back where we started, nothing changed.

we are all entitled to our opinions.... I get animated due to the way Martin has been deified despite playing football which was not getting us anywhere.

| Huw Jenkins - new role on 19:59 - Oct 14 with 1000 views | Dr_Winston | This is now our fifth season back at this level. The first campaign, given the amount of squad upheaval and basic rebuilding required then we'd have done well to be competitive. As it was we weren't. There were signs that Potter was making progress but he f*cked off before finishing the job. Seasons 2 & 3 saw us relatively stable with parachute payments remaining. You'd have expected us to be competitive with a player like Ayew in the squad and we were. Achieved nothing in the end, humiliating ourselves in a playoff final, but we were there. Season 4 was a bit of a disappointment as too many self inflicted stupidities cost us in the end. Simply put, we leaked far too many avoidable goals to be serious contenders and we weren't. Season 5 remains in play. The free scoring attack of last season is a bit stuttery but we appear to have tightened up at the back a bit in recent games. If we can maintain that whilst nursing Piroe and Obafemi back into form we might have a chance. | |

What will the history books tell us failing twice to reach the Pl or doing the double over our neighbours

| Huw Jenkins - new role on 14:11 - Oct 14 by ReslovenSwan1 | I have researched heavily this and other forums and do not recognize any "gushing" at all actually. He is met with decent respect he deserves and a huge dose of scepticism. Most hope he can make Swansea a great team but few expect it even now. This spin of so called "mindless adoration" is bog standard forum trolling. My admiration of Huw Jenkins (I actually said hello and greeted the great man on Tuesday) is based on his 15 year tenure which in anyone's terms was sensational. 2002 at the Vetch was as bad as football experience I can remember. Was the Vetch safe? 20 years on the club is transformed and has no debts. £5m more should be coming in fro Downes. |
You're correct a sensational tenure, all the more tragic he ruined it all.
| Huw Jenkins - new role on 20:56 - Oct 14 with 921 views | Dr_Winston | Jenkins was a perfectly capable, maybe even good football club chairman. Sadly he was possessed of an ego that he allowed to convince himself could be more than that. As soon as he promoted himself to de facto Director of Football as well we were doomed. If only he'd understood his limitations and restricted himself to employing actual knowledgeable football people rather than trying to replace them. [Post edited 14 Oct 2022 21:01]

Now he is on his own as a ‘whatever’ it is he is. He has no agents to employ, no agents to pay and no agents to consult. Unless of course he is clever in how he involves himself with those he made allies when he was at Swansea. I think he will. But how it comes off is another thing. Geoff Bony anyone ?

Geoff's father owes HJ a favour after his last contract for Swansea. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Huw Jenkins - new role on 22:38 - Oct 14 with 829 views | Dr_Parnassus | Don’t really have too many bad words to say about him. Did extremely well for us but was a bit out of his depth towards the end, as were they all of course. It’s one thing steering the ship when things are heading in the right direction, but as soon as the course turned and the seas turned rough they didn’t have a clue. They sold to the Americans who lets face it, are perfectly fine owners. They have made one or two patriotic/commercial errors (Bob Bradley, American January influx) but on the whole I feel we are in safe hands. Jenkins will always be remembered as the chairman who steered us towards our most successful era. | |

We could have maybe done with Trevor Birch coming in earlier than he did [no fault of his own of course] but we might have avoided relegation if we had, but Jenkins ego would have never have hired him.

This has all the features of an urban myth. There is no evidence that he changed his role before Potter arrived. Potter you remember demanded to be in charge of transfers as part of his appointment. He did badly on transfers. Jenkins was chairman and CEO throughout his tenure and was never given a different role. He was "de facto" head of football from 2002 onwards. At some point he appointed David Leadbeater as his recruitment guru but jenkins called the shots from what i can see. This was a challenged by Laudrup who wanted his associate to control transfers. Laudrup was sacked after the issue became toxic from press reports. If you have any evidence that Jenkins "promoted himself to de facto Director of Football" provide it. He was always de facto DoF as far as I can see. Himself, the manager and head of recruitment. Some signings were club signing and some were manager signings. There were changes with Potter and with Marc Allen arriving. Neither lasted much more than a season.

Why do you defenestrate yourself to defend him. He was brilliant, he then took a wrong turn. No shame in that

I feel he had learned from his mistakes and was on the right path with Graham Potter in charge and Dan James, Ollie McBurnie, Rodon and Roberts developing nicely. Had Potter made better signings and adapted quicker Swansea could have returned to the PL that season. Potters transfers were terrible. "The Non Negotiable Four" TNNF. In reverse order of awfulness Celina, John, Asoro and McKay. They cost £7m when Swansea could have picked up r the likes of Ivan Toney and Robert Dickie.
