I went to a talk by a diver who worked on the recovery of the Mary Rose once. It was brilliant. I think he's from Swansea too.

I'm a qualified diver but only the basic qualification. It's brilliant though and I wish I'd done more when I was younger.

Then I also developed a love of history.

I watched a programme about finding a Roman city in the sea off Naples, Baiae it was called. Apparently a playground for the wealthy and powerful.

The problem with getting old is, we finally realise the things we would have loved to do and maybe would even have been good at, just too late to do anything about it!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

My wife has a friend who earned a fortune diving in Hong Kong, the job was to inspect precast piles driven into the sea to support new buildings. He was diving in 2m diameter pipes to check their condition. The piles were 150 metres long with no visibility. He brought a house for cash on the back of a 6 month contract.

Rather him than me, one of my biggest fears that is, trapped somewhere, with no way to escape. Potholing the same, not many things turn me but they do.
