| NHS waiting lists on 19:30 - Oct 24 by raynor94 | Same as Dentists |
I do ponder if G.P availability and G.P consultations will go the same way as NHS dentistry? Private G.P services are now available throughout the U.K and will many more NHS G.P's either leave the NHS at some stage or at the very least drastically reduce NHS hours by going private part time? The dreaded triage system and lack of G.P availability has created the perfect environment/situation where people, will out of desperation, worry and convenience turn to the private sector just to get an appointment with a G.P ASAP. The perfect opportunity for the private G.P sector to attract a patient/customer base has seen the emergence of private G.P practices and consultations. Could what is currently only a few end up with vastly more like what happened with private dentistry???? [Post edited 24 Oct 2022 20:00]

| NHS waiting lists on 16:59 - Oct 24 by Catullus | I don't think it should be mved around. I think it should have been built in an area outside of any town or city, it should have been put close to the best rail and road links in mid Wales and been kept away from towns and cities and designed to serve all of Wales. Politicians have a preoccupation with "capital cities" and despite all the evidence they still seem to think trickle down will work. In England they used to say a prosperous London will help the Uk and it never has, it just got richer whilst the rest got worse. Well since devo we have seen the same discredited, stupid ideas brought in in Wales, a prosperous Cardiff will see the wealth spread throughtout Wales they've said. It's every bit as much a lie as when Westminster said it. Drakeford says we do things differently in Wales. Well the tricle down nonsense, the snouts in troughs and not listening to and/or being out of touch with the people, it's very much the same as Westminster. |
It’s totally impractical and would be extortionately expensive to move the Senedd around. We’d be talking about hiring venues, hotel rooms for politicians, security, admin staff etc etc, additional security, police searches, presence etc etc. Complete non starter, just as moving Westminster around England would be. Moving a smaller sub committee meeting could be an option if they wanted to make themselves more accessible, but that would still bring with it the additional costs. Seem to remember Rhodri Morgan going up to Aberystwyth for an open meeting.

| NHS waiting lists on 18:23 - Oct 24 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | Mrs Joesus’s grandfather went to A+E in Morriston with crippling pains in his back whilst coughing up blood. It was 14 hours before he was seen, they said it was a kidney infection and sent him on his way with antibiotics. Turns out it was liver cancer that has now spread to his kidneys and hip. |
This is the problem when the NHS is treated almost as the state religion. It's comprised of people who make mistakes just like everything else. It's horrendously run and immensely wasteful. There are much, much better ways of doing things than just having one monolithic state health provider sucking up hundreds of billions every year. As long as treatment is free at the point of use, no option should be off the table.

Seems to go the way as almost every public service. Run it badly, provide a poor service, get public to agree with cuts as its so poor...... keeps getting worse, then float privatisation.

For as long as I've been aware of it the standard scare tactic from the left is that the Tories are going to privatise the NHS. Hasn't happened yet. Won't happen either. Not even Thatcher at the height of her power and privatisation frenzy dared to do it. You'll have to change the record. Blair's Labour govt introduced more private sector involvement in the NHS than any Conservative one ever has.

It doesn’t sound so radical when you phrase it like that. If a party ran on reform of the NHS while guaranteeing free at point of service at A&Es and GP surgeries then there could be some room for innovation. The disaster that this winter is looking to be could hasten thinking.

We have to accept that just throwing ever increasing amounts of money into it will never be a long term solution. There has to be reform as well. There are plenty of other national systems out there that run on a basis of public/private insurance that would cause apoplexy in some quarters if they were seriously suggested in the UK. The levels of waste are insane. My dad used to work on the maintenance side at Morriston. There are (or were) rooms and rooms full of expensively acquired stuff that simply never got used. Everything from beds to medical equipment to cleaning supplies. Just ordered, stored and forgotten about until eventually dumped.

There are some lessons to learn from the academies programme in England - non for profit trusts set up to run health care settings with a government department to oversee standards (OfSTED in schools case). With schools the DfE through LAs maintain responsibility for school places, SEND and safeguarding. Could be replicated within healthcare?

Indeed there will be no fullscale privatisation of the NHS by any government by means of having it replaced with a payment/medical insurance provider (private Welsh dentists) e.g. Denplan etc. It'll be more a case of what we have all seen with Welsh dentists and Welsh G.P's with indivduals leaving the NHS and going private on their own volition. And of course entrepreneurs/business will always build private hospitals for people who do not want to wait 5-7 years for a hip/knee replacement under Welsh goverment rule. The demmand is there even at a price of £12,500 - £13,500 for that type of surgery! So there is indeed overwhelming demand and a buisiness opportunity for the private sector! Hence new build Sancta Maria Hopsital treating 35,000 (and increasing by the year because worse Wales NHS is getting!) paitents in its first year of opening. https://newsfromwales.co.uk/hm And then there is the private sector being awarded NHS contracts that NHS patients do not currentley pay for e.g. Falck tendering for private ambulance service contracts within the NHS itself. I do however envisage a private payment ambulance/emergency servce sometime in the future however? Life saving paramedics and defibrillators arriving within 5-15 mins as opposed to waiting 10 -24 hours for? A payment worth paying for?

Okay go and see a dentist on the NHS, if you aren't one of the lucky few to be signed up it is impossible. I dont care whether it is Labour or Tories denigrating the health service. Both are complicit in the sell off. How can you categorically say it won't happen, swathes have already been outsourced and private healthcare is already on the rise. People won't be able to cope with the NHS wait and it'll just drive them to private.

There is absolutely no need for any government to privatise the NHS because privatisation/private sector is doing extemely well by doing exactly that all by itself and without any need whatsoever for intervention from any goverment chamber. Thats all the governemnt nees to do is be inept and continue with the madness i.e. over populate the country by (God thats a lot!) 10 million and run down servcies and put NHS under so much strain that senior health care proffesionals leave in their droves. That creates the perfect enviroment for an NHS alternative to thrive! Private G.P's, private dentists, private hospitals, private audiology/hearing aids, private physiotherapists, private chiropodists, private nursing home care, private mental health counsellers etc...... oh and ask many a local cab driver and they will tell you that they are (at times) acting more like a private ambulance service because waiting 10 - 24 hours for an ambulance is just not on for some people. The best proof of privatistion by itself is indeed dentistry, looks like NHS dentistry is on the verge of extinction IMO. [Post edited 25 Oct 2022 19:35]

By neglecting the NHS and underfunding it they essentially are privatising it. They are very good at running down public services to a point of uselessness. We are becoming a knock off version of the United States, it is quite embarrassing.

It's indeed that along with having a U.K thats had a population increase thats stark raving insanity! Apparently there are many loons of obvious critical think skills and common sense defecit that want vastly more and for the sheer hell of it, either that or some form of sabotage or scorched eath yearning . U.K population was in 2000 58,890,000 in 2022 its currentley 68,707,686. That is a U.K increase close to the size of FORTY SWANSEA sized populations. "Houston we have a problem". I think you will find Blair and brown did the most to privatise the NHS. Allowing private firms to build new hospitals with a return of 15% when the Government could have borrowed the money at 3%.

Yes and they are also to blame, as are the current bunch of crooks. Wasn't so long ago that Sunak was out in the US getting tapped up by a load of private healthcare providers. They are all complicit and if any of them had any moral compass they would all be deeply ashamed of themselves.

Dentists are choosing not to work for the NHS because they can earn even more by going private. Nothing has been sold off at all. NHS dentists can earn close to £100,000 a year. Imagine what they get privately? Unless you wish to pass a law whereby dentists in the UK are only allowed to work for the NHS, which I'd imagine would be highly illegal. I can say it won't happen because it won't. The NHS has existed for nearly 80 years, most of it under the Tories. They didn't privatise it then, they certainly won't do it now they're looking at a 30 point gap in the polls, no matter how much people "Cry Wolf".

As are doctors/consulants in the NHS, they are choosing less patients and more money. It's privatisation through the back door. They'd never have the bottle to come out upfront and say it. I see and your opinions on these matters are fact I take it? Which member of the Conservative party are you to be able to say it won't happen? A lot of public services have been privatised and j bet people like yourself said then that it would never happen.

| NHS waiting lists on 16:13 - Oct 25 with 824 views | Wingstandwood | The most perverse thing of all are the local man-child idiots whom defend, deny and excuse what we are seeing by putting spite and tribalism way before common sense and morality! So they can indeed celebrate a £500 million cash injection addition to the other hundreds of millions lavished upon Cardiff that further (yet again!) denies money for the Swansea/SW Wales NHS. Yet? In the future? It will be their wife, mother, father, daughter, son, brother, sister, grandparent or other relative that requires ASAP intervention for: an aneurism, heart attack, life threatening cardiac arrhythmia, life threatening blood clot, hemorrhage, seizure, airway obstruction, life threatening fall etc. ! You see these things do not just happen to other people and other families! It is inevitable that some time in the future either they or a family member will require emergency intervention! I have a close relative who was once a senior clinician within Swansea Bay University Health Board and the stark honest truth is people are dying and will continue to die unnecessarily. And even if they survive there is the possibility of life changing repercussions that could have been prevented. The “Golden Hour” and all that! Ahhh the "Golden Hour" that once was! | |

I expect plenty of people have a similar story but my wife knows someone who was told she'd have a 15 month wait just for an appointment after her referral. When she asked about going private the wait was reduced to a couple of weeks. There are still medical secretary's doing their specialists private work in NHS time. It's the tip of a very large iceberg.
