| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City 08:09 - Feb 12 with 5004 views | STID2017 | As one of his most fervent supporters, I am of the opinion that he can do no more with our players. I firmly believe had he been supported by the owners in January, we would not be at this point now. That is now a moot* point and we are at a point where he either needs to leave or be replaced for his own wellbeing and that of the team. Long term, this will not cure the rot that has set in the club. That will only happen when the owners are replaced. Whether he goes before Wednesday's game against bottom placed Blackpool or not, I fear the atmosphere will be toxic, with most fans anger vented towards the ever-absent non caring owners Not an evening to look forward to if I am honest. Thanks to Plankton for your incisive** posts highlighting he had spotted my typos. [Post edited 13 Feb 2023 8:12]

| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City on 09:50 - Feb 12 by Dr_Winston | Downes was good. I liked both Wolf and Christie too. After that I'm struggling, although I do believe that Darling has the makings of an excellent player given a coach who knows what he's doing. Hopefully there's time to get one in before the damage to his game becomes terminal. |
Downes should never have been sold. Wolf and Christie were both expected to provide high press and, and defend when needed. Well our high press ended as being ineffectual because the rest of the team was unable to do because the lack of pace in our game style and players meaning the amount of sprinting they had to do both forward and defensively was unsustainable even with four at the back Fulton as they both did looks a flogged horse by the end of games, Dyer and Routledge were often replaced on the seventy minute mark and replaced with like. Darling should be playing he added an additional threat in the opposition box complimenting Cabango's. As for his defending he had began to show his willingness to put the ball in row Z allowing us time to regroup defensively may be why he has been dropped or has he been injured, as for damaging his defensive capabilities his defending against Birmingham atrocious with this grappling of players while not looking at the ball nonesense, bad coaching? The playing style has been worked out by other teams, Martin needed to rethink his whole philosophy towards the game and what his players can do. Players will always make mistakes if there is no room to play in, better to make those mistakes further up the park while trying to force the opposition to make them rather than the other way round.

| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City on 09:19 - Feb 12 by Dr_Parnassus | Agreed, although sacking him now may not be the best idea. It depends who is available and how much it would cost. We will have far more options come end of season. As much as I don’t rate Martin, I’d be surprised if he actually took a side as talented as this down to league 1. He should have enough about him to do his usual bottom half but safe finish. If it comes to a point where we are really knocking on the trap door then we could always rely on Joe Allen who is incredibly respected and knows how to play a proper passing and possession game. So I’d hold fire for now. |
I’m sure there is someone within the club who could do a better job. Personally I’d give Joey Allen the job till the end of the season, sure he’d do a better job than Martin.

He should of got an assistant in, who had the nous to set up a defence. You can score as many as you like, but if you are shipping them in up the end its pointless (pardon the pun)

| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City on 10:35 - Feb 12 by vetchonian | Yes amazingly isn’t it what a competent manager with a good system can achieve with average players like Monk and Gower etc like getting us promoted to the PL and becoming the darlings of the division with our football funny how the likes of Martinez and Rodger’s got us playing nice winning football with average players yet it seems Russ need a different class of player |
Difference is that Rodgers had a mix of players, some of whom went on to play in the PL, that suited the style hw wanted. Martin is trying to play in a way which needs certain types of players which he hasn't got / been unable to get to play his style. That said, we should be doing better than we are

What kind of player does Martin need? Since his entry into management he’s brought in 40+ players. How on earth does he keep avoiding the types of players he needs? It’s a myth I’m afraid. When we went up we did it with Alan Tate, Mark Gower and Garry Monk. There is no excuse regarding personnel.

He was and us now Sometimes ,you really are wrong and me right . Would you say he has been of much use to us thus far ? Has he given us a boost in some way ? Have a lovely day [Post edited 12 Feb 2023 10:01]

You had a 50/50 chance of your usual misery paying off with Martin. Congratulations. Don't go thinking it is based on anything other than that because we all know it isn't. Allen has frequently looked our most capable midfielder alongside Fulton all season. He is the only one who consistently finds time on the ball and takes passes from defence on the turn. You on the other hand wrote him off the day he signed and have continued to do so regardless of his performances, which is something you do with a lot of players. It's almost as if you need something to criticise.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

I don't see Joey as a manager, I'm not sure that he has the interest in becoming one.

It may be the cheapest option - paying him weekly/monthly until he has found another job (probably in L1). | | | | Login to get fewer ads

That would make financial sense, allowing the owners to employ a new manager.

| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City on 08:34 - Feb 12 by STID2017 | There was an recent editorial that discussed Martin's demeanour in his presser, which suggested that he seemed at a low ebb and that for his own well-being and that of his family he ought to consider his position? I am just echoing that that here and think it is probably more relevant after the two recent losses ? |
He had a terrible week though no signings 2 goals conceeded in injury time. Nobody expected anything yesterday. Blackpool is a big game for him though lose that and he will be in trouble.

Why do they owe him has been backed since he arrived. Apart from the last window.

In normal circumstances he would be sacked if Wednesday nights game was lost. At Swansea though we hardly ever have normal circumstances.

I'd now say untenable if we lose Wednesday. This squad is capable of so much more

| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City on 20:45 - Feb 12 with 993 views | Dr_Parnassus | I’ve been stating he shouldn’t be sacked until the end of the season. But if we lose against bottom of the league, at home, when they haven’t won in 13 games will put that to the test. At that point, a caretaker manager would even be a better option than keeping the same maybe. If we can’t beat bottom of the league in a pressure moment then what hope do we have quite frankly. BUT I think it’s extremely unlikely we lose. Russ actually has a decent record against the minnows (that’s how it feels anyway) of the league, it’s why he has a good derby record. | |

| Is It The End Of The Road For Martin At Swansea City on 22:55 - Feb 12 with 941 views | QJumpingJack | We may be capable of getting a result against Blackpool at home but we could get hammered at Blackburn on Saturday. Martin is over half way through his project and the team is less competitive than it was when Cooper left. | | | |

Since 2021 he has brought in a number of loan players, some getting only a few minutes under their belts with us plus we have permanent deals with Piroe, Obafemi, Joseph, Fisher, NtCham, Patterson, Walsh, Ogbeta, Darling, Allen, Wood and Williams.

It does make you think what contribution for example does O'Leary make , a good reader of the game and knowledgeable so just what is his role

I see him as a supporter of RM a bit like Phil Neale when at England. Do I not like that.
