It's full on "Cry Wolf" stuff at this point. Utterly ridiculous stuff that some on the left lap up like cats lap up milk. If the Tories want to privatise the NHS then they're doing a piss awful job of it considering that they've directly controlled the thing for the majority of its existence. In reality, most of the current NHS funding issues are a result of the PFI "investment" bragged about by Blair and Brown. They went shopping in the Brighthouse catalogue and the mug taxpayers ended up with the bill. The other reason that the NHS will never be privatised of course is that any Government who did so would immediately lose the next election. Governments don't want to lose elections.

I love milk. The NHS is part privatised, those can afford to pay get treated sooner than the poorer people. It's a 2 tier sustem and has been for ages.

I haven’t backed down. Just giving a personal anecdotal example of the incompetent and grossly negligent treatment of a man who paid into the NHS for over seventy years but when he actually needed them appointments for vital treatment were moved or cancelled because “the doctor is on holiday” or “we have no record of your appointment” or getting him mixed up with someone else with the same name and giving him someone else’s drugs, or leaving him crying out in agony on a makeshift bed all night whilst all the nurses stood around chatting and actively ignoring him (the only person who bothered to help was a cleaner.) I could go on and on and on about how shit the nhs is. I feel nothing but pure malice and contempt for it.

Just in case you are still unclear Nye Bevan did not write the Beveridge report. Not sure what this has to do with Krankie. Can you try to stick to the topic of the post. |
Kilky never answers the undisputably factual posts, he prefers to make pithy remarks and childish quips. He rarely answers a straight question either. No wonder so many on here have a certain opinion.

The only part of the NHS that is privatised are the new Hospitals built by PFI, Privatise Finance Initiative. Privatise companies were allowed to buy new Hospitals and guaranteed a 10% to 15% return on capital invested for 25 years. The government could have borrowed the money at around 3 to 4% This of course was done by Blair and Brown who were of course trying to keep borrowing of the books. Nye Bevan's implementation of the NHS stated that those who could not afford heathcare would be treated for free after paying their NI of course. He also said that those who could afford healthcare would continue being private and nor a burden on the state.

There are so many people now paying to have their knees and hips done. I know a German nurse and I asked what the answer to the NHS problems would be? She told me in her words, an insurance policy like they have in Germany. Now don't shoot the messenger. I haven't googled it and have no idea how it works but those were her words.

People who can afford to go private go private. That is not the NHS. Life is Two Tier. If you can afford something you're always going to be able to obtain things that others cannot whether that's a new car or a new hip.

A lot of operations are carried out in private hospitals every year as standard. There's a brand new private hospital on Llamsamlet enterprise zone that does eye operations, https://swanseabaynews.com/202 They are the biggest providers of eye surgeries for the NHS, over 6000 ops a year. many services are partly privatised as standard.

Sounds like a win win for everyone. Win for the NHS which just cope with demand. Win for the patient whi gets the treatment they deserve. Win for the Country as people can get on with their lives and back to work rather than being stuck on a waiting list for years. Don't forget the Sancta Marria, not for profit, hospital which can often do operations for less than it cost tye NHS which is over burden by layers of management and buearocracy. The NHS employs over 1.5 million of which only 520,00 are doctors and Nurses.

Your last statement is correct, but it’s very misleading because the 520,000 figure doesn’t include other medical staff including radiographers, physiotherapists, healthcare support staff who are amongst the lowest paid and do most of the hands on patient work etc.

Private costs have include a profit margin for shareholders. Thats money going straight out of the NHS right there. That money could have been used for patient care. Private healthcare sucks.

Do you not understand what not for profit means. They can often carry out operations for a cheaper price than the inefficient bureaucratic NHS which is top heavy with managers on huge salaries. Every person that pays for their own health care eases the Burden on the NHS. In fact they are help carry out Nye's dreams of those who can adford pay will continue to pay and those who cannot will be care for by the state.

Anyone who can afford to privately pay for anything that would otherwise be taxpayer funded should be encouraged to do so, whether that's healthcare or education. I'd even go so far as to allow a small tax deduction.

I might have mentioned this before. There was a Radio Wales phone in and the amount of oldies who had released money from their pensions to pay for knees and hips rather than wait five years or so was quite astonishing. One guy phoned in and said he didn't go to the pub, no exotic holidays but paid for all his family to have private healthcare. His prerogative completely. However, Im a great believer in enjoying your life, but it's his choice. More Dentists are going private due to pressure. Let's be honest you have to pay for certain procedures as it is. The NHS is creaking...it needs some form of new direction. If not it's totally forked!
| Widow Krankie resigning? on 18:22 - Apr 10 with 1472 views | Dr_Winston | Dentists are going private because they can earn more that way. Just like some GP's are now basically businesspeople rather than medical professionals because of the contracts that they were given. | |

Bang on! There will be no NHS privatisation! What has happened and will continue to happen is the emergence and expansion of private sector healthcare services. South Wales already has Sancta Maria in Swansea, Werndale in Carmarthen and Spire Hospital Cardiff etc. Add to that private G.P practices in South Wales along with private dentistry, private physiotherapy, private chiropody and private mental health services e.g. counselling etc. All this has existed and happened in Wales under Welsh Government in Cardiff.

| Widow Krankie resigning? on 18:58 - Apr 10 with 1457 views | AnotherJohn | Given the direction of this thread, and our Irish friend's concern about the future of the NHS, I thought it worth mentioning the instructive case of the RoI's healthcare system. This is partly delivered by a tax-funded public service, but the inadequacies of that system have resulted in the largest uptake of private health insurance of any major EU country, with around 45% of the population signed up. In the years after the global financial crisis, when the EU imposed its excessive deficit procedure on Ireland, the GDP spend on health fell from over 10% to 7.3% in 2015 (the year the EU loosened the financial strait jacket). This led to some of the longest hospital waiting lists in the EU. The latest figure I could find on %GDP spend was 7.1%, compared with the UK's spend of 11.9% under the evil Tories. The ‘two-tier’ nature of access and gaps in coverage have caused enormous concern and the 2017 Sláintecare report outlines a 10-year plan to establish a health service that treats patients according to need rather than ability to pay. Sadly, progress to date is best described as modest. Perhaps Irish citizens who care about equity should make more noise about their own system? | | | |

If the surgeries are done by the NHS surgeons in NHS operating theatres, it's the NHS but the profit goes elsewhere. Some people are desperate and borrow money. Life is a lot more than two tier but when people on NHS waiting lists are being pushed further down the list because it's being jumped by people with more money then it's not right. Buying a new car is a choice, trying to get quality of life is a tad more important..

Only 520000? We all know, or we should, that the NHS would collapse if it wasn't for ther staff besides doctors and nurses. There's the admin staff, cooks and cleaners, drivers, paramedics, estates and porters. it's not a win for people on the waiting list who cannot afford to ay and see the list getting loger and longer. In my case I was told about 12 months which became over 5 years. We don't all have 20k laying around.
