Well done mate. I think I'm a little younger than you( not much) 😂 should be retired by now but dropped a couple of bollocks along the way. Not a problem . I enjoy what I do as I turned my hobby into a small business. Looking at 3 years and then (hopefully) move out to Spain. The most important things in life are health and happiness.

You deserve your retirement mate after working hard and providing for your family and the state . Hopefully now you've become the Victor Meldrew of Mount Pleasant . Just a joke 🤣 We bought our first house in Mount Pleasant late 80's. Had great neighbours and loved our time there.

Lets be honest most working class people in wales will work 44 years if they start after comp and finish between 60 and 65. We dont have much of a middle class where idiot children hardly work due to mummy and daddys money. I guess there are some, but i dont know any. I mean unless people have suffered from long term unemployment due to the uk Tory government ending the heavy industries in south wales, then what you have described is what many people will get to achieve. Of course, we have those with medical conditions that restricts sometimes what work is suitable. So good for you like but its like expecting applause just cos you are old. I am still working but i will get my 44 years in before i retire. I wont be asking for applause though. I will just feel grateful for having the good health to work that long, and please that my taxation will have helped others along the way. Nothing special in that. Btw Google says …. ‘The average age of retirement, however, is about 64. This suggests a working career of 46 years is someone who starts at 18’. That means your 44 years is below average. Good for you though obviously …🤣 [Post edited 1 Oct 2023 20:44]

Why should my next generation pay tax on what I have worked bloody hard to generate. Considering I have already paid tax on everything I have earned. |
It's what I've been saying for years. Prince Charles didn't pay a penny on what he inherited from The Queen. Really fair, isn't it?

They do . I did not do 40 yrs. The service is haemorrhaging jobs wholesale and I don’t blame them. The recent handing in of firearms authorities for AFOs in the Met shows the discontent amongst those officers at the sharpest of ends. Unlike their “ brothers and sisters “ in other emergencies services they don’t go on strike . According to Teresa may, “ not exceptional job”.

As OHL has said they do now. The pension arrangements were changed in 2015 when most police officers were moved in to a new scheme. In short the expecting was officers would work 40 years to get the full pension, which means starting at 20. There’s been an article in The Telegraph over the last few days where there’s been mention of gold plated pensions and loads of cops leaving or retiring early on account of the generous pensions, that’s about as far from the truth as one can get. The bottom line is that the new pension is poor and officers are going to get really poor returns, so they’re bailing out and taking what they had accrued in the old pension scheme and looking for new jobs which are less stressful and generally pay about the same. Who wants to be 58 and dealing with a load of drunk or drugged chavs on a Friday night in Wind St.

Shafted by various governments but mainly stories making out they were party of law and order when they are nothing like so May should have been strung up for what she did as Home Secretary alone

The 30 year pension deal was fact for a long time, and frankly good for them. Like somebody said, being 58 in Wind Street is not the best if it kicks off. I guess people will still do the job, but its a lot less attractive if it needs the full 40 years for a full pension. When we get an Indy Wales, then Heddlu can go back to 30 years. Annibyniaeth.

It was the case when a constable was in his later years of service,he would look for a job off shifts and find a place Warrant Dept,Juvelile Liaison ,School Liaison,Community Liaison, Court Duty ,Bridewell ( custody) duty or even the Incident Room where calls are taken and officers dispatched. All these now either gone or taken over by civilians ,because it’s cheaper. It’s amazing anyone joins at @ll now.

Same in teaching where transition arrangements in 2015 have seen older staff bail out. For full pension it's now 46 years (22 till 68). There's a big crisis coming. Birth rate has recovered somewhat and coupled with recruitment rates at secondary hovering at about 52% of what's need to fill posts, ther are problems afoot. Stiil there are some banging on about gold plated pensions
