Don't be Addicks - Charlton Athletic vs QPR Match Thread 03:18 - Feb 4 with 42434 viewsSpaceman_P

Riding high from the previous weekends pant pulling of Coventry.

I feel there is positivity in the camp, weirdly I think Field going may phase the team.

However if its the same team line up and if Vale and Madsen are on fire.

We'll be the Orgasm Addicks not them

Charlton Diuretic 0 QPR 3

Kone, Dunne and Vale

"So Julien, all 3 away games in 2026 have been 0-0, how do you feel about this one being slightly more exciting than the other 2?"

He looked pretty happy at the end, so I'm sure he'll feel he's met his standard.

Formation screwed us

Jimmy and Ronnie need to have a word about swapping places.

Saito for me is a lost cause on the right.
Smyth is a lost cause on the left

Walsh was our best player by a long shot today.

But at least we didn't lose.

I’ve seen far worse than that this season mate. On reflection, not a bad point. I’d love to have seen an away end nutty celebration mind.

Very much so Clive. Play like we did away at West Ham and we are in 6th place.

100% and as soon as Kolli came on and played that role, with Bennie Hugging the right we were much better. But look you have to credit the opposition they were very physical and direct, we saw a typical Dykes performance dominant in the air could not score in a brothel. 2nd half we were much better especially as they tired. Given how little we had available on the bench. End of the day you will always take a point away from home

Why, when you're playing winnable games? With ambition like that, you'd presumably never take 3 points anywhere!

Given the level of our performance tonight happy to steal a point from The Valley.

A shame as Charlton were beatable.

Walsh and Cookie Men Of the Match.

Personally, I thought they were very poor. The fact we couldn't beat them should knock this 'play off' nonsense on the head. Get to 50 points, blood the kids and let's see what they've got.

It does feel like we think a point away is always fine, and we're just going away to kill the games, then we'll play and attack at home.

I've watched that one on TV today, but it looked like the Oxford and Stoke games to me. Again, like Stoke, when we started to attack in injury time we could have easily scored a couple of goals.

Bristol City made the play offs last year winning eight of their final 11 home games, and one of their last 15 away games of which they drew seven. Feels like we're trying to do something similar.

I do think player availability and fitness is a big part of this. he's only made two subs again tonight, he clearly doesn't like or trust what he's got beyond these 11-13 players. So sit in conserve, rely on some old school centre backs away, and then attack at home. If we hadn't sht the bed against Wrexham we'd have seven home wins from eight played and one away win from 11.

All about the injuries. Both in the starting eleven and then those that he can freshen it up with.
Two subs did make a difference when they came on particularly Kolli.

I never lie but I don't always tell the truth

The two widemen stank the place out, not sure how you can mount attacks playing 4-2-1-1, horrendous for Vale and Kone trying to play in that scenario.

Thought the other 8 and the keeper deserve a round of applause for getting us through that.

So frustrating. Charlton were utter garbage. We have so many players injured at the moment especially in attacking areas so a point is not a disaster. But so many times tonight we get into decent areas and we just pass sideways and backwards for no reason whatsoever. Our record against the bottom teams has been so poor this season. Still amazed we sign a striker and he gets injured in his first training session.

Definitely seen worse, not disagreeing with that mate!

But we're just showing zero intent away from home. And that was yet another awful away performance where Joe Walsh had kept us in it. The rest of the team apart from him and the CBs were pitiable

Shit but local

Well that was a truly awful game. We were terrible. Complete opposite of last weekend. Thought he picked the right team, but looked like he set us up to play far too negatively. Just fcuking set up away as we do at home and go out and try to win away games. Still, he's doing a good job overall.

Thought the set up was fine for the first half: Charlton came out hard as expected and created a lot of chances.
However it was unlikely they could keep those levels going for the second half and so it proved. We should’ve gone for it more a lot earlier than injury time: a goal would’ve won it for us. Walsh clear MOTM but Cook and Dunne were imperious as usual. Edwards isn’t a right back, especially going forward. Thought Kone had another good game, really looking like a decent Championship striker now. Saito was way off it. Thought Dykes had one of his better games for them.

Without Walsh that was a loss IMO.
Is Ronnie playing below his loan level so far in his 2 starts he looked a little shaky tonight or is it the fact he gets no help in front of him.
Bennie is probably worth a start he should have been on at half time tonight that game was there for us at 0-0 mid second half on

It was a very Lyndon performance wasn't it - couldn't fault the effort, charged about, caused us problems. Three very decent chances fell to him, no goals scored.

As I said John, Charlton were beatable.

It appears we are currently happy with 0-0 away games. Given we aren't going to get relegated and being so close to the play off position it seems a silly tactic to me.

Neither side really offered much in this game, we have become difficult to beat away from home, which is good, a point is fine. But the football away from home is pretty anemic, but then again important not to lose, especially with our injury list.

How can the 1st half set-up have been 'fine', if, as you say, Charlton had a pile of chances (and could/should have been 2-0 up at the interval)? What manual of game plans are you taking that from?

I had the benefit of missing the first half. Strong finish at least, can’t claim we weren’t pressing for the win at the end. I thought Walsh’s distribution was very good, shows his confidence. Apart from Vale perhaps, I thought the energy levels were high at the end, big difference from as recently as Wrexham.

Fair enough mate. Not so gutted about the performance and you are right about the intent. Just feel a bit for our travelling supporters. Could have been a good night for them.

Just catching up with the thread and for me thought JS got it right tonight.

Said at half time that was not a bench for chasing a game... so coming here keeping it tight and tire out Charlton as much as we could for 60-70 mins... bring on 2 attack minded players and try and go for the win... and it very nearly paid off

Great corner routine and Cook just over... one on one with Kolli and a brave save... one off the line... and a last second Kone header just wide.... that could have easily been the perfect night

Toss for me who was MOTM though Walsh possibly deserved it... but Cook was unbelievable..... again...

Thought Kone was good as well.. sorry to say Ronnie is not a right back .... and thought Hayden had a decent game

Certainly better than the Stoke and Oxford games... but not a classic... but very nearly a perfect result...

Which is exactly why they should be swapped throughout the game giving them and the Charlton defenders a different challenge.
