| Andy Fisher& Jay Fulton rewarded with new contracts on 20:14 - Feb 12 by wwcigne | I think Fisher is a good keeper ,his awareness to come off his line is very good and he has good shot stopping ability,I think the tactics of Martin and Williams didn’t suit his game .because he looks a lot better since they’ve gone |
Too many mistakes in him for me. His poor decision making and goalkeeping cost us in the FA Cup. And cost the club.

If he is that good then why do many fans have hearts in mouths when he is between the sticks In four years , he has been mostly flaky yet given to more years Sorry but it’s madness If we are not ambitious then we will never progress Sentiment is toxic Imagine Vig busting an ACL Opinion

With respect - any keeper that is good enough to replace Vig will not settle for being second choice so is unlikely to join the Swans. Even the most ambitious clubs do not have 2 top quality keepers on their books, regardless of your opinion of Fisher you cant accuse the club of not being ambitious for giving him a new deal.

I’m no fan of Fisher but as you say it’s just not feasible for a club like ours to have two first choice keepers. Fisher isn’t great but he pleasantly surprised me last time I saw him play. That was measured against the very low quality of his craftsmanship in the Martin era so bear that in mind😒

That’s a decent riposte and I’ve uparrowed it However , I don’t believe a further contract is merited There are better around Hes too often been a liability and Vigsroux has been a joy At least we can exchange views on this Thanks

I have to admit I was a bit surprised at the Fisher deal. He’s good enough to be first choice somewhere else. There won’t be many better backup keepers in the championship

| Andy Fisher& Jay Fulton rewarded with new contracts on 18:09 - Feb 13 with 628 views | Landore_Jack | Fisher became number 1 after Rushworth left. Vigouroux was signed that summer but he was seen as backup. After a series of blunders and poor displays Vigouroux became number 1. [Post edited 13 Feb 22:45]

Goal keepers. Not one good enough to be back up even. Or even no 3. No 9 strikers. Not one. Cullen is not a striker apparently as he does not have a full CF toolbox. Cotterill and Congreve playing every week. Slow burners like Cullen. Lissah and Wilson playing every week in Scotland, Lissah might be trusted next season, Lloyd not cutting it at very poor Newport.

Fisher was replaced by Vig as he couldn’t be trusted as he was a liability He’s never troubled Vig for number 1 A few half decent shows on the cup are him with another deal where he sits on the bench and counts the money And fans accept this Fulton , seen as a great servant is a nothing player , proven again today Yet another laughing at our sentimental shite We brought back a crocked Bony out of sentiment and we’ve learned nothing We have given the unstartable Key with another deal Meanwhile , we have one striker fit , one crocked yet we loan one young prospect out , one who’s not had a chance whilst eom and Ronald get away with ineffective murder Apart from that , happy val day

Fisher was arguably our best player during the league cup run and kept us in several games, whilst Fulton's capability should be obvious to all by now. The club can't have superstars in every position. Here and there it needs capable backup and deals like this secure it. |
Arguably is right You love him As you do Fisher Both should not be at the club There really is better out there

The more ambitious a club gets, the harder it is for young players to break through, particularly when the games they play don’t prepare them for the pace and aggression of league football. Had the previous owners still been in situ, I’m sure some of them would have broken through by now, as we wouldn’t be spending significant money on improving our squad.

Yep A back up keeper given another two years to sit on the bench and do farm all And a midfielder who has been nothing less than average for at least six years Loves the city That’s enough It’s crazy It also can’t be said But it the truth

Fulton is a good professional player. He's never going to be a world beater, but we are a mediocre championship side. He knows his role, reads the game well and is strong. Glad we are giving him An extension

Most number two goal keepers do sit on the bench and count the money. That's their job, to provide a back up option should the first choice keeper get injured or suspended. He would come in for a handful of games as cover, he's not going to oust Vig from the number 1 spot. No club (to my knowledge) use a weekly rotation system with their keepers, they have first choice who will play 90%+ matches and a backup. It's not sentiment, it's good business all round that we have a keeper who's fit, has some experience at this level, happy to play understudy to Vig, is already settled into the area and squad, is not going to cost a transfer fee and is not going to be breaking the bank with his wage demands. It also offers us the opportunity to loan out some of our younger keepers over the next couple of seasons to gain competitive experience. I can't see any flaws in Fisher being given a new contract to be honest. [Post edited 18 Feb 8:14]

With hindsight was it a mistake to sign Fisher for what we paid and the contract he was given, probably but that is not his fault or that of our current decision makers. Is it good business to extend his contract on fresh terms considering the current position of both Fisher and the club, I would say it is. Neither can be blamed for decisions in the past and to hold a grudge is foolish.

I'd imagine most clubs would be saying the same about their backup keepers though unless there is some serious talent/potential sitting on the bench.
