Some interesting numbers.
Some 64,426 people were waiting for an initial decision on an asylum application at the end of December 2025.
This is down 20% from 80,841 at the end of September 2025, and a drop of nearly half (48%) from 124,802 a year earlier at the end of December 2024.
The asylum backlog peaked at 175,457 at the end of June 2023.
The latest figure of 64,426 is the lowest since 60,548 at the end of September 2020.
The number of people waiting more than 12 months for an initial decision on their asylum claim stood at 22,275 at the end of last year, down from 45,094 at the end of 2024 and well below the recent peak of 91,741 in June 2023. |  | | |  |

I know she's qualified Gwyn but she's a Green Energy Heat Pump Engineer and has been for a long time and I also don't believe she's been working tirelessly throughout this campaign ....You can't run for an MP and also work full time - there aren't enough hours in the day and I don't think the fellow yoghurt-knitters have the resources for a large campaign team and back up...

Only reason I'm asking is we had the discussion a couple of months ago and I said that the Greens are the party with the most momentum at the time. I still think that Reform will win certain seats and the Greens others with the Liberals probably third. Labour will be nowhere and struggle to come fourth, possibly fifth depending if the public keep warming to Badenoch, Starmer won't come into the equation because he will be long gone, if not soon straight after the Senedd elections. Their momentum has come from the Labour drop and I think that's now bottomed out. Starmer will probably last until the May elections then he'll go if there's an obvious replacement (there isn't at the mo in my opinion)
As the Tories recover they'll probably start to take some Reform votes back - I agree with you that Badenoch is growing into her role.
As things get more polerised Reform risk losing votes to the Rupert Lowe part from those who want to go even further right.

Much as I despair at Labour these days and their current leader , maybe a thought to keep the party in situ in Gorton instead of this nonsense made up rabble of more uselessness called The Green Party .
Starmer made a mayor mess up of not allowing Andy Burnham to stand as the MP and put his own career and name before a decent Politician wanted to have a real say .
Will questions be asked on the voting procedures and monitoring of the ballot boxes as has been highlighted in some reporting , focusing in on the demographic area ,
Ask them questions and you are immediatley called a racist now .
